Trey Parker and Matt Stone are both big Japanese monster movie fans, the Mega Man name comes from that period from 1983 to 1991 (Just before Power Rangers came to America) when Sentai shows (What Power Rangers footage comes from) had MAN at the end of their names (Example Dynaman, Bioman, Jetman). At the time of this South Park episode, the current Sentai series was MEGAranger (Power Rangers in Space), so they went with MegaMAN
Oddly I think Trey and Matt don't even know who Mega Man (Capcom) is or at least at the time
