Didn't see a general up so thought I'd start one with my question.

Anyone have any experience with SWtoys?KGhobby put up a preorder for a classic Claire Redfield and I always liked her, was just wondering the quality of the manufacturer before I dove in on a preorder.

I'll give you the seamless meme, but molded hair is generally the better choice for characters with their hair done up so I honestly don't know what you're talking about. Rooted hair would look a lot worse with Claire's intended hairstyle.

Asmus toys is trash that got extremely lucky for scooping up the LOTR license, viper customs tried to sell a custom gandalf the white limited run on Facebook, much better sculpt, rooted hair actually done right, and the fuckers made a public statment that they would sue him, people who promoted his product and people who bought the product, now you're thinking "well they have the license so they're justified" but take into account that Asmus also made several unlicensed products, from Mathilda to young John Connor, and run a third party brand as xsensation that does only unlicensed stuff, so them producing shit quality figures, and then going after the people who make better versions because they have the license while they themselves also make unlicensed stuff, is not only extremely hypocritical but makes them look very bad from a business perspective, the morons even tried to defend themselves when people brought this up by saying they made their unlicensed products more "cartoonish" looking so it's not a 100% copy of the IP they're blatantly ripping off…. DamToys has the license for Resident Evil 2 but they still haven't announced anything so far, they mostly make army and military 1/6 and 1/12 stuff, they also run several third party brands, VTS Toys being the most popular

Are you sure? I spoke to the retailer I got it from and they were very skeptical it would get released, the only reason I haven't been refunded yet is because they still haven't had an official order from Limtoys to cancel all pre orders and refund people, seems like that's where it's heading to be honest, I don't think they will risk their lives and freedoom over a toy, if Rockstar wants they can end up losing all their profit and go to jail.
VTS however, is relatively quiet about their releases, and probably won't get the attention the other figure got, it doesn't look as good as the other figure for sure but it has a better chance of getting made.

I'm pretty sure. It was pulled from Giantoy (the retailer that was endorsed by LIM) and then put back up for order as "custom cowboy figure." To my understanding this kind of thing happens all the time in the unliscensed figure market, and it's very hard for companies to put a stop to a figure coming out. I imagine LIM are just going to keep their heads down until pre-orders are fulfilled. What I will say is that the John Marston that LIM said they were considering is probably never going to happen now.

But like you said, after the shitstorm that was the Arthur pre ordering period I don't expect them to ever touch anything related to Rockstar ever again, I'm still skeptical about their Arthur releasing, even with that little trick they're pulling with Giantoy, I got my deposit in so we'll wait and see...

Yeah no, rooted hair only ever looked good on characters with long/messy hair, and even that requires a lot of effort on the company to make it look good.

Also, Claire's hairstyle would literally require her hair to be glued down by the edges of her fringe, because unlike your example, they're not just hanging down loosely.

I'm happy with it. Obviously it's not Hot Toys quality, nor was I expecting it to be. The body is fine. It's my first VTS figure, are they usually not very good?

I wish they'd used a generic headsculpt instead of the Tom Hiddleston one as it's still very obviously him, even with the hat on and bandana up.

But yes, overall I'm happy with it. I'm really hoping we get some weapon packs at some point.

Ok, seems solid enough to warrant a purchase, most third party bodies are just squeaky and have very stiff joints that's why I asked, the head sculpt could be easily replaced by some random sculpt or you could even comission your own headsculpt, my character looked like an eldritch abomination

Agreed. A whole Red Dead mini-line would have great potential. They were also planning some accessory packs it sounds like (though they didn't say what they consisted of) and that would have been just amazing. Getting the duster coat, bandanna and stalker hat for arthur or the elegant suit and undead head and hands for John. Fucking Rockstar indeed.

Fuck! Fuck Rockstar. The whole thing is just depressing, their MGS stuff is really good and I'm looking forward to their Quiet set but damn I really hoped they could've expanded their Red Dead line, get a John, Dutch, Bill, Javier, all the key players, it seemed to me like they were pretty invested in it too, then the shit hit the fan and now my dreams of having a Red Dead shelf are ruined...
What pissed me off the most is that, from what I gathered, it got cancelled because It gained a lot of attention on twitter and plebbit, people were sharing pictures of their Arthur with everyone involved in the game and their mother... This sort of thing is relatively rare in the one sixth groups, most unlicensed stuff is just kept under the rug... Oh well, fingers crossed VTS picks up the pieces and makes Arthur and Marston at least.

There definitely is a lack of good 1/6 military and movie figures, especially since Hot Toys seems to only make Disney products now, but more and more I see people starting to buy their first 1/6 figure, I do think however that unlicensed figures will be a thing of the past, since the copyright laws in china are getting more strict, which is a shame because they are the only ones that offer variety in the market, without those we are stuck with Hot Toys capeshit and nu wars garbage.

The response I got from my retailer made it seem like it was a very slim chance of it seeing the light of day, he said his store was contacted by Limtoys and that they were considering cancelling all pre orders but I haven't talked to him since... still haven't recieved a refund or a message saying my order is cancelled so fingers crossed.

To be honest most third party 1/6 stuff dances around the $180-200 price tag but that's because they don't pay for the license and the quality is rarely good, bootlegs are usually shit, however I do enjoy ones that are made of figures that are Impossible to find, the DX Davy Jones being an example, the problem is Hot Toys prices are getting more and more hysterical, and people who aren't hard core collectors don't see a reason to pay Hot Toys prices, so companies start releasing more affordable 1/12 scale figures which are also a good size for those people.

Used to be way, way less until Hot Toys.

Thing is Hot Toys was so expensive because it was officially licensed crap, but other 1/6 companies looked at those prices and their offerings and thought they could do the same despite little justification apart from raising prices.

The 1/6 market is getting smaller and smaller as a result of the massive price increase, as a result 1/6 companies are trying out 1/12 figures but many 1/6 collectors don't want them, and so they end up buying nothing, being cut out of their hobby by how expensive its gotten. Meanwhile watch the same thing that happened to 1/6 happen to 1/12 eventually down the line too.

Well I got mine for super cheap (I think, literally $52.00). I don’t have a good pic but mine’s paint job is kind of a little fucked up but it doesn’t look to obvious cuz it’s just excessive red paint around his neck area which looks all bloody and gruesome so no big deal I guess. His arms and legs have bendy dealies inside them so you can pose him to an extent. Main issue is they really dont bend all that much. One arm is on a forward&back swivel only (the side with all the tentacles) and the other arm can more or less freely move cuz it’s just kind of like a plushie. I could only get his elbows to move so far, and his rocket launcher is made to fit one arm specifically. I personally love him but I’m also very biased because I’ve always loved Nemesis and having an actually sizeable AND huggable beast with mild poseability is a nice BONAS. Plus he scales great with my RE3 Jill.

Well the worldbox Nemesis is impossible to find, so this seems like a nice enough substitute, the rocket seems a bit smaller than it should be, and the articulation doesn't sound too exciting but I'm not that autistic and can overlook that. I used to be part of 2 1/6 scale forums back in the golden days, lots of people making custom items and often times trading them or selling them (For affordable prices). Most of those places are now ghost towns, a lot of the customizers are retired or moved to facebook where they are now divided into even smaller groups (usually with some elitist asshole leading it), long gone are the days of loading up one of them pages and seeing up to 20+ threads of custom stuff, people making everything from fantasy, to historical to even capeshit and star wars stuff.
The death of the customs section in the sideshow forum also was a big hit, that place had a lot of talented folk making heads/hands for alien races no one did before and even clothes and uniforms, also lots of character sculpts that blew away anything produced by a company, alas good ol disney sent the forum owners a C&D basically telling them to kick all customizers out or face legal action.

That's sad and frustrating to hear about the shutdown of the custom section, the customizations, kitbashes and stuff like that is what I really love about 1/6 and what draws me to it despite being unable to make much myself.

This shit sounds just like when Disney or other companies C&D some dedicated and passionate modders who are making mods with their IP's, like that Lord of the Rings Skyrim mod that had to shut down, its so frustratign to see something similar within 1/6 community with that forced shutdown of the forum At least there's still one sixth warriors forum, that's where I browse mostly to see what customs people have made - pic related.

The future of 1/6 really does look bleak though, for anyone who isn't just a collector of those super expensive, movie licensed figures like Hot Toys.

I was going to kitbash a figure but the price of everything I would have to buy would cost me the same as the official figure, if not more, so I just bought the fucking thing. People and brands in general have made the prices for all 1/16 stuff ridiculous, they're really killing the scale, and 1/12 will be the same thing, just look at Mezco, a few years from now we'll be paying $80 for 5 inch figures.

Oddly enough fashion dolls have better articulation than they've ever had in that past so they're really improving.

It just feels like 1/6th action figures are stagnating. I collect both and with action figures you get these amazing realistic face sculpts and absolutely shitty dry thinly rooted nylon hair. You also get really poor fabric choices with action figures that lead to people who have never handled a fashion doll saying shit like 'cloth goods are terrible' when they are only experience the cheap shit action figure companies go in for.

If only we could take the best of both worlds and mash them together we'd really have something.

I agree, and nylon hair can look nice if you do it properly. I think what's wrong with the Anderson figure's hair is that it has only one tone of color when most hair and realistic wigs have four to five different shades that are blended together using the 'hackling method'. It could also help if they tried to use some hair glue or spray to style it a bit better.

What I'd like to know is what is a good price for something like this Kier or other Phicen figures like it, I can get it for roughly $175 USD. Will it retain its value after its released or am I better off waiting and getting it after for cheaper.
How much do you have to care for these figures since they're not hard plastic? $175 isn't that big of an investment but I dont want to waste it on something that wont last a decent amount of time even if its been cared for.
I know this figure is in collaboration with Sideshow, will that make it more desirable than Phicen/TBLeague's other stuff?
And finally, anything I should be concerned about once I have it in hand? Anons who have figures like these, what are your experiences?

I've seen the reviews and that Nate looks horrible, the body is cheaply produced knock off off garbage with a giant neck and the sculpt looks nothing like Nate.

I hope so, their MGSV stuff is amazing but they would be stupid to not cover old ground as well, especially since not a whole lot of people like V, hopefully a Naked Snake is in the cards since 3 is my favourite game from the series, they also recently posted a picture of the new sculpt for Venom Snake on instagram so they're still focused on V it seems. I know they we're going to make RDR figures as well but seems like that got cancelled since Rockstar refuses to license their stuff for figures and is extremely cruel when it comes to unlincensed stuff from their stuff, which is a shame because the Arthur looked pretty good and John Marston is amogst my most wanted figures and now that will never happen.
The sculpt is trash, I can't believe people are saying it looks good, he looks like he's about to cry in the reviews I've seen, I'm not holding out hope for someone else to tackle the character though, the Uncharted series and Nates story is done.

Looks better to me, seems like they actually got the porportions and lips right this time, his beard seems to have more texture in it which is nice, also the hair seems like it's right as well, the old sculpts had the hair combed upwards like it had pomade in it or something.

it caries from company to company, for example, worldbox sells for 150-200 and their mk 1/6th figures are fucking phenominal. Or Foxbox who went quite sold for 220 to 250, but they were a small operation and while the bodies sucked, sculpts and clothes were top notch. Finally Asmus gives you great value at 200 ish, the Nero that's comin out has like no pleather, and 4 interchangeable robot arms with a great sculpt and cloth quality.

Threezero is a good example, their sculpts are really hit or miss, the paint is shit and the body is complete trash, you can find better third party bodies out there.

It's mostly the bodies, they are extremely cheap for a big company like them, their rubber bodies don't seem like they will hold out very well, but I do think they're slowly improving, I just wish they weren't so lazy with the lines they have, they completely dropped the ball on game of thrones and the walking dead, they barely released anything from those when they were breaking records and when they start releasing figures more regularly both shows turn to shit. They will likely suffer from it but it's really their fault.

You know I never actually thought about it but you're right, I can't remember the last time I saw a figure that was a plain grunt. Couldn't you kitbash one pretty easily with the DAMtoys stuff though? I'm assuming it can't be that difficult, I dunno though since I'm primarily a WW2 collector and kitbashing things into grunts is pretty brain dead simple.
