Hey, I'm one of the threadfags, and I want to apologize for doing this community dirty tonight. I know proper apologies aren't quite how this thread rolls, but I feel like I did a lot of damage and I want to try to make things right. I won't be shitposting at this level again, and I hope that the thread and the Discord can repair things and move on.

I really do hope I haven't gotten Glyos banned from the board, and whenever the jannies decide to come through and get rid of my garbage threads, I'll take whatever ban they have in store. More small connectors in critical orientations. T-joints with different combinations of male and female ports. It's hard to build just with the T-parts on the side of the Hub, as well as the middle part of the Glyan gun. Small parts with 45 degree angles for bends; the Roboforce triangles are too small, and the small half-axis joints can't go female-female. On that note, more small female-female tube parts.

Basically I do a lot of building and am always struggling at the small scale stuff, but that stuff matters a lot, because it can adjust the big parts of your build around. I feel pretty good about chunky scale once I've got a Weaponeer, Maxx, Zetonian, and Zeroid in hand. I want more building flexibility at small scale.

All I'm asking for is a modern Buildman with the utility of a Glyan. Assymmetric, built for building, lots of tiny little fiddly parts.

This sounds particularly great. I want more unusually angled pieces like the Noboto shoulder pieces--just that angle alone gives you multiple posing options by default, with no extra sets needed, and it also makes for an interesting piece to work with in builds.

Yeah, Noboto's arm was revolutionary, then we keep getting figures that completely throw that out the window. Villser and Pheyaos even look like they have parts on their arms that should be cuts but they're not. And their arms are way chunkier than Noboto, there's no reason they couldn't be.

I was a little conservative here, there are more blue lines you can put on there. Just look at the Glyan! There is so much mass in Villser and Pheyaos and cool, unique parts that can't be used. The vine-like upper left arm of Pheyaos that can't be separated from the cluster-of-grapes shoulder is such a lost opportunity to make long viney tendrils that end in the tentacle hand.

Thanks. SCA has always been one of favorite colorways. That bone and maroon combo looks so good; I wish we'd see them again.

I also wish I had a better shot of my little glyos shelf there, but it's at my parents' house. I don't really have any place for it here, so it's just kind of enshrined there so I can visit it with all the figures I never plan to sell.

Also, I don't see anything wrong with using a Glyan as comparison. The Glyan is a nice looking toy with an insane parts breakdown, affordable price, and modularity designed to help with builds. The Villser was, again, touted as focusing on building potential.

Pheyaos is a bit weird, Matt didn't really say Pheyaos was designed for building in particular so I don't think I can expect much more from it. However, it does bother me that ten years of system advancement later we essentially got the Traveler 2 figure in terms of parts breakdown and modularity.

Exactly! The rest of your post is spot on, too. And it's even worse because Villser is deceptively molded with all the fake spots where it looks like it should come apart.

Villser promised something that it didn't deliver on in any way. Pheyaos never claimed to be a build-centric figure and Matt was very open about it being another Traveler. I'm not even mad about Pheyaos.

You absolutely could, I think you'd just need a saw, drill or dremel, and some switch pins (to provide a solid base for the peg). Maybe a PVC based glue too. I think it's how some producers add part separation to their sculpts, but don't quote me on that.

Instead I wonder how hard it would be to print up or cast a batch of half switch pins with a hemisphere mount, and a matching set of sockets inside a similar hemisphere. I know modibot has a conversion kit but I don't know how well it works.

Converting any piece to become compatible would be harder to screw up with shaky hands.

cut smaller than needed, heat up, add pin, allow to cool. plastic will mold around the part some saving you some pain of loose joint sections

Yeah, there's something just BA about this guy's feel in hand now that I made those mods. I also did saw the hips apart and it's a bit useful. Nothing like the elbows, but I like them, and they enable replacement with axis joints.

Okay, so

One thing I gotta mention is the villser's cuts aren't perfectly straight, so if you were to try this you gotta sand down that area first to make it a flat surface.

I used a small hand drill to drill out a hole with a 3 mm drill bit, and with this anon's help

I then stuck him in some super hot water for a few seconds and jammed a glyos peg in the hole to stretch it a bit. Once it was stretched I stuck a switch pin in (you don't need to pre stretch it, but switch pins are small and hard to grip so it might help)

When all was said and done I stuck him in the freezer for 5 minutes

Oh! If the eye on the back of the head was a separate piece that would have been perfect. Then you'd have little filler piece and the head would be 100% more useful since it could also be a 90-degree connector.

That's one of my favorite things about the geodraxus; even the heads are useful.

This is a great feature of the Buildman bug eye head too. Wish more heads could be shoulders, or do something. That's at least one good and unique part about the Villser head. You can remove the forehead and put it into the middle of a dinosaur neck or something.

Thus far, my biggest problem with Pheyaos builds (and this might just be me) is that they eventually turn into white noise for me. It's a blobby monster build, and they eventually all start to look the same in my head. This doesn't really happen to me with any other Glyos figures.

The sun-faded travelers I got in the mail have really grown on me since I gave them a gentle scrub to wash off all the old residue from their finish and make their colors pop out more. Found an axis joint in my parts bin so I upgraded my grey Scar with it. Also got Gotherrus in the mail today and threw together another traveler with the spare head and limbs. Don't wanna be that guy but stuff was definitely a lot cheaper back in the Rig Crew 2 days n such, I'm kind of fond of that more limited paint app style but that could just be nostalgia. I'm pretty happy with modern Onell, I just wish Matt put a little more umph into some of the new sculpts.

As a fan of the stuff I couldn't imagine much of a better destination.

If it was trying to recruit people I would find it pretty lame, at least on the surface.

That said it was absolutely slammed at opening, a huge line and a solid wait to get toypizza stuff. Everyone seemed surprised by the turnout of what clearly was expected to be a very small event. Basically you got to sample and buy toys in person that are only ever available online and talk to and ask their creators anything you want.

First and foremost this was a toy pizza con, not a glyos con. I was surprised by the lack of glyos there desu, without the personality powerhouse of TGB and the unquestionable popularity of battle tribes, with no merchandise from Onell and no surprise appearance from Jesse(Callgrim) this was very much toypizza's show. Kent and roboforce were the only ones there with a decent spread of Merc. PJ and Marc were hanging out with geodraxus and Bitfigs but with geo so new and Bitfigs so tiny there wasn't much to show. A couple of tables had glyos customs, a couple resin toy customs and a handful of toypizza collab artists.

I actually had the most fun with Marc and PJ. There were only a couple of geodudes out but Bitfigs had a big spread. Plus he clued me in to something that I am VERY excited about. I mean, you do you, but those magic eraser sponges are just mild abrasives. You're basically wet-sanding away the top layer and most people find this undesirable. It changes the finish of the plastic and CAN indeed remove paint and shallow detail line paint if you're not careful.

And sadly, the oldest releases are the best pocket buddies, since the hard PVC mix from back then makes for extremely strong joint connections that don't pop apart easily. But fuck that, I don't wanna risk damaging or losing my older figures, so if I take one out for pocket photography, it's usually something recent that I wouldn't mind losing too much.

Well, this is surprising. Glyos PVC doesn't melt when autoclaved! I just autoclaved this switch pin at 120 degrees C (248 degrees F) for 20 minutes under 18 psi pressure, and it didn't melt at all.

I did some research, and apparently plasticized PVC is autoclave safe, but non-plasticized PVC does melt. Huh. That's too bad, I wanted to melt one of my Villsers into a flat pancake to riff on all the Villser customizing going on lately.

Actually not a bad idea, because the upper range of oven temperatures does get into PVC melting temperatures. Apparently though it's easy to burn PVC before it melts, especially plasticized PVC. I'm worried about the fumes released when it burns. Fine in a well-ventilated autoclave, not ideal in my own kitchen where I want to cook food later.

Aren't there some plastics that just don't melt, and they instead just burn up? I remember reading about that during my quest to find out how to repair a GI Joe O Ring where the torso wouldn't come apart.

I don't think it's changed all that much. The original photo might be hard to tell, but this is a Villser standard teal switch pin, not transparent voss. It has gotten a little bit lighter from expanding and stretching, I think. Here it is at 23 hours.
