The people who designed and got the toy made in first place are often selling to limited markets. They have no hope of getting into one of the handful of mass market stores to actually make profits. All they can do is advertise as much as possible to MAYBE sell to something like 500 customers, or 1000 customers, etc, depending on whatever small section of fandom they are targeting.

For something like a 1/18 figure you think there's 10 thousand definitive buyers scouring the internet for dtc products to buy? No fucking way. Look at kickstarter backers for a pretty accurate number of what you can expect for buyers when it comes to non mass market toys. Then double it, adding in people that don't find out in time. Then triple it, people that are retarded like you and thing toys grow on trees and should all be $10 or less. Still not enough.
