The Revoltechs are the most articulated, followed by the Figuarts, followed by the NECA.

If you're a vintage collector that's cool, but there are high quality TMNT figures out there now. You have options, you don't have to swallow the shit Playmates feeds you.

I loved them as a kid. Yes they were 5 points of articulation, but from what I recall the limbs were slightly rubbery and connected with ball joints, offering them more range of motion than a typical cut joint you'd often get at the time.

These are pretty popular with vintage collectors. They have rubbery limbs so it adds a little bit to the play factor. The long bandana tails are cool too.

What? I get liking the playmates ones for nostalgic value and some of them did have a really fun theme and concept but wow soulless for well articulated tmnt toys that look like their individual source material..? Now that's edgy.

I feel like the charm of the vintage line comes from all the non-core characters. Who the heck is Ace Duck? Mondo Gecko? Panda Khan? It's like a colorful world with obscure depths.

Not just ball joints, but the limbs were rubbery so you could get their weapons in their hands without snapping the blades off. Plus their legs were longer so you could make them kick stuff better.

Fuck, I had the wolf with the green shield. Never knew who he was, apparently he's from some movie I've never seen but thanks to the packaging I at least knew he was from TMNT.

The only ninja turtle I had from that time was this weird transformer that changes between mutated and non-mutated forms.

His name was Razar and he was one of the two mutants Shredder makes to fight the turtles in the second movie. The other mutant Shredder made was a snapping turtle named Tokka.

Classic Playmates is actually pretty great. The sculpts have a ton of personality and they do a pretty good job of hiding or minimizing the lack of articulation with good neutral poses. If you don't mind ~5 POA they're about as good as it gets.

Modern Playmates is fucking trash. The sculpts are jank, the articulation is barely there and the paint apps are non-existent. They give a little bit of a shit about the four turtles but the other characters are just embarrassing. Spend your money elsewhere.

Part of the charm for me is how unique every character is, aside from the turtles. They worked together as a set flawlessly, but each one was unique, with different sculpts and articulation.

I miss vintage toys, man.
