>>7666146>I suspect a lot of guys are into specifically DDs because of fetish stuffFunny you should mention that. I have four Dollfie Dreams all bought within one year and I sort of regret it. I bought them so I could focus my collecting interests & money on them instead of hordes of cheap figures & dolls. Quality over quanity.
It didn't work out.
The initial investment for each doll was STEEP. My first one was used and even then it was around $300+ for all the base parts and a couple of cheap outfits. The third was most expensive at $500+ for a loli doll and I'm not into lolis. (I just wanted a variety of bodies to work with.) After that, you get nickle & dime'ed over the custom parts, clothes, shoes, and accessories. I could only afford a couple of outfits for each doll as most of the quality ones are over $150. (Shoes not included.) Even then, you got to make sure the outfit fits your DD, DDy, DD sister, etc. All told, I spend over $2500 within a year on my four DD's.
But the worst is the DD (and BJD by extenstion) community. Like a sperg, I took a lot of photos & shared them online. It was heartbreaking to see people trash EVERYTHING about the dolls I worked hard to build. There was no constuctive critism other than "Git gud." So I did ALOT of reasearch about DYI DD stuff. Watched tutorials and redid did the face-ups of each doll at least twice. I learned how to sew and modify AG clothes to fit DD's. Constucted my own furniture & accesories out of wood & PVC sheets. And I still got negitive comments about everything looking awful. Meanwhile, some rich guy drops hundreds of dollars on a professional face-up, authentic Volks clothes, etc. and gets endless praise. It was then I realized that I didn't need to "git gud." I needed to get rich.
I like DD's, but the amount of money you have to invest and the toxic cattyness of the community really sucked all the joy I had playing with them. Now they just sit on a bench, (That I made for them) collecting dust.
