Some stupid-ridiculously-cheap gi joe or star wars toy then that would resell for a whole lot quickly and easily so I can buy a lot more stuff that I actually want.

For what reason would i take a toy with me to a point in time where i would be alone, houseless and broke? If anything i would hoard money from that time period given that its still in circulation and take advantage of lower inflation to be wealthier.

I would go an take one of my Lord of the Rings figures I had in storage years ago.

I would do this, at the exact time that they went missing, when someone broke I to my storage and stole 4 totes full of my shit.

This way, I would know who stole it, and I could track them down and get my shit back, or money for it.

Good plan. Seriously though, it was like ten years ago, and I still come across moments where I get something new, then think, "Man, this would be rad with X", then remember X was part of the stolen pile.

They also took my garden tiller and a coffee table. I kept checking the local flea market and ebay for months after hoping some of my stuff would show up, I had a small 1/6th box that had some less common easily trackable stuff in it.

To be fair, the trope of trying to warn people about the future but unable to convince them is age-old. Cassandra in the Greek myths, the soothsayer in Julius Caesar, Oedipus Rex, the list goes on. If someone appeared to you and told you to fap exclusively to porn you never enjoyed before for the rest of your life with the claim that it would prevent a company you never heard of from selling purses with gaudy colors...would you do what you were told?
