DON'T GET YOUR HOPES UP BUT there is a new theme that got leaked,we don't which theme are these set numbers from,it could be Troll or Minions though 14 sets seems a lot for both of those themes. Leaf is a code name,people speculated they could be plant accesories but those get different numbers and these are set number. No idea what it could be.

Btw,Hidden Side gets 10 sets next year so we still have original themes.

2016 Bionicle ended at 71300-71316 , but then we got some 2017 Dimension sets from 71340-71349.

I am just guessing here based on set numbers what those 14 sets might be , Bionicle and Dimensions set numbers are just very similar for 2016.

I can't find any other set numbers used from 713xx-72000 however (72001-72006 is the small 2018 Nexo Knights wave).It's not Minions from what I know and not Trolls either because those start with 75 and the jewelry theme Dots starts with 41.

How realistic is it that Faber could request 14 sets for the first wave and actually end up with that exact number after all is said and done? There's lots of opportunities for the number to go up or down a bit between pitching the idea and the final release, so putting that detail into the hashtag from the very beginning seems risky.

Well,Hidden Side has 10 sets but they seem to be only 6 sets for the winter wave and 4 for the summer wave,apparently summer sets for next year got leaked too. So who knows,14 might be the whole year number of sets.

Bionicle did have a thing for needlessly many, needlessly OP characters/species, didn't it? I feel like about half of the off-screen side story characters could have completely changed the course of the main story at any given time if they had felt like it.

Probably to reinforce the matoran leadership structure. Since a toa is (usually) a powered up matoran, and retire into turaga leadership roles, they're likely to keep the best interests of the matoran in mind

If a Toa of any other element other than Light puts on the Avohkii, does said Toa gain control over both light and his respective element? It seems plausible.

I guess Kraahkan also works a bit like a badge of office. If somebody's weraring it - you know they're probably the head honcho of the Brotherhood, or at least close to that position. You could say that Avohkii works somewhat similarly, being more akin to a rallying standard and morale boost to those around it.

Yeah I think that was the main appeal of the Kraahkan for Icarax. He is a warrior afterall and its powers don't sound like something he'd be interested in. He's literally wearing the leader's mask.

I once saw a fanart that imagined the Kraahkan as originally belonging to Miserix before Teridax got it. Of course that's not true to canon but I like the idea of the Kraahkan as a "crown" that's passed down from leader to leader. Sounds better than giving Miserix something completely unrelated like a.. Mask of Mutation.

If I could I'd definitely try rebuilding some of the favourite OCs I vaguely remember. There's one Toa character I remember kind of well because I did the torso weirdly. He had a hordika chestplate but for the shoulder joints I had rahkshi thigh pieces pegged into it, it was a neat build. I actually had that one built and never took it apart forever until I decided to "rebuild" all my loose bionicles like 10 years ago.

I reckon it would have made things a heck of a lot simpler if they were fully robotic in the lore too, and only rarer stuff like Krana or Kraata were organic. I don't know if the fact that the characters are partially organic was meant to be some sort of intentional, meaningful thematic element (like in the Transformers show Beast Machines where the buildup of the characters is a huge part of the story's message and symbolism), but I don't think it was ever really presented well in the story. Like Bob Thompson allegedly said the Bionicle beings are meant to be evolving from organic to fully robotic, but that was never a thing in the lore. Outside of random references to lungs or muscles, they may as well have been completely mechanical to begin with. There's a lot of fans and casuals who never even realized they were meant to be part-organic.
You could say they still need to breathe to justify the Kaukau and the 07 story, but their "lungs" could be made of non-organic material. Fusions, shape-shifters and artificially created Rahi would be easier to make sense of too if you took organic bits out of the equation. Plus you'd lose the need to drastically redesign the characters for movies.

I've actually always liked that MU beings are technorganic rather full robots. The odd mix between robotic and organic is something that sets Bionicle apart from any another story about sentient robots.

You see those seemingly robotic beings but then you start notice the organic bits, and that leaves you confused and somewhat uneasy. That constant "Wait, so what are "bionicles" then?" wondering was vital to how I experienced Bionicle. I could always tell they were more than just robots.

I'm not into Thompson's evolution theory. But since as you've said that bit was never used in lore, as far as we are concerned it's pretty much just his headcanon.

That's more like a late remnant of the idea hastily shoved into the canon when they were trying to tie things up. I don't even know why they bothered at that point, maybe they were trying to follow up on a couple cryptic lines said by the Bahrag back in '02, but it feels like such a pointless reveal.
If only Greg had used the serials to explain and expand on this type of shit, delve into the unexplored deep lore of Bonkle from Lego's Universe Bible that we couldn't obtain through any other source, rather than writing spur-of-the-moment, fanfiction tier incoherent mess.

Canonically, Miserix wears the Mask of Mutation but that wasn't something that was decided in a straightforward, organic way.

I don't know if I would have Miserix's mask 100% being the Kraahkan, since that would raise the question "What did Teridax use to wear, then?" and make things needlessly complicated.
I think I would pick a third power outside Shadow and Mutation.
But the mask mold itself, it looks very good for Miserix. Menacing yet wise, unlike the purely malevolent "Teridax side".

I don't know, it's real frustrating. Rather than pairs of two elements they really should have just done one of each like they always have. No one cared about gay ass kohli anyway they didn't need to base the sets around teams..

Plus with Takua and Jaller already part of the titan sets it would have even been pretty interesting to see what Ta-Matoran they might use as filler. Nuhrii would be cool but Hali would have definitely gotten first dibs on the Kaukau. Probably like Kapura I guess.

Also, that little pin connector used for the legs in a problem too, it doesn't come in any green/turqoise colours so a le-matoran would still be fucked even if you had the proper colour torsos.

I've said this before, Bionicle is one of they very few universes where you could legitimately argue for nonbinary characters. Since they lack biological sexes, gender really could be anything the characters get to feel as.

BUT there's a catch with that. MU beings are sexless, yes, but we know their creators aren't. And it's reasonable to think that the concept of "female and male" exists among MU beings because the GBs uploaded that idea inside their minds. So chance is 99% that MU beings are just as binary as we humans are. Canon doesn't show otherwise.

I'll add one thing though. It if weren't for the current political climate, nonbinary characters in fiction could actually be pretty cool, especially in sci-fi and fantasy. Otherwordly, androgynous beings who truly can't understand our concept of sex/gender and who come across as utterly alien and fascinatingly disturbing to us. Or aliens with 3 or more sexes.

But try doing that now without getting somehow political or pissing off someone on Twitter. After all, we know that when puny humans deem themselves or someone else "nonbinary" they just want to attention whore, so once again fuck Vahki-jannies, fuck Piraka and FUCK DEMI.

Back when I wrote Bionicle fiction in middle school, I actually had an entire story where one Matoran pondered the nature of gender and why Ga-Matoran behaved and thought differently from "male" Matoran.

It was pretty navel-gazey but, looking back on it, kind of complex for a toy fanfiction. Bionicle always inspired the weirdest most interesting fanfictions in me. It was just such a beautiful, alien world so different from our own in every way.

I've just used Tamiya spray cans in the past, and it hasn't failed me yet. A coat of grey primer, a few light coats of silver, and a coat or two of clear to seal it off should do the trick.

I know the story team didn't think a lot of this stuff through and it's easy to shitpost with bitter meme answers, but I'm curious about your honest interpretation. What the hell is "The Journey to One" as a title supposed to convey?
Is it Makuta? The MoUP? Is it shorthand for "The Journey to Become One with the Elements?" or something?
It's especially confusing to me because they hammered the phrase "UNITED, BUT NOT ONE" into our heads so much in the 2015 storyline. Why would they then be journeying to reach a goal of "one"?

This is the one that makes the most sense to me, just using "One" as a fancier word for "Unity", since it was a show about the UNITERS and all. Yes, you couldn't possibly conflict harder with "united, but not one", but it's not like the G2 story team was ever known for giving any amount of fucks.

Maybe it means that too much power in one person's hand is dangerous, but different powers working together in unity is good. Or that no single one of them is superior to the others.
But then, like you said, why make the title Journey to One if being "one" is something to be avoided? So I don't know, I can't come up with a sensible explanation. Even if the writers meant it to tie into some big revelation, we can't say for sure since the ending was so ungodly rushed and probably lots of ideas got thrown out.

I guess there's nothing saying that the Barraki couldn't have belonged to the species of any random characters mentioned in passing, Dark Hunters or Order members or whatever. How many species there are for how small the MU actually seems to be is just a weird fucking thing, so one may as well assume that any of random characters just belonged to the same species here and there and we just never found out.

I hate that it took any time for me to figure out how easily this could be done. What a difference just simple side-to-side head articulation can do. Even got some rotation on top of that for Onua, so now he can actually look like he does on his boxart, almost.

It's just too bad the important parts were made a decade+ too late to be available in old light gray so I could match some colors, my autism won't really allow mixing the new and old on the same figure.

Yes, this is what I was thinking of. There's nothing bad per se about stepping outside the binary if you're writing sci-fi. There even are some animals that can change sex IRL, so outside Earth things can and should get pretty crazy by our standards.

Tren Krom and Annona were basically non-binary, and that made sense because there was nothing remotely human about them. Even their voices were described as inhuman and genderless as possible.

This stuff is fun, the problem is that it's weaponized these days. It's a constant "tHIs iS prOoF thAT gEndER iS a sPectRUm". You really can't do this purely out of scientific speculation fun anymore. Everything has to be a political allegory for something.

I think a commonly held reason is that LEGO skimped on marketing, thinking that one Netflix show and catering exclusively to fansites would be all they needed.

In this day and age, though, you're going to need to do more than that to sell toys. I'm pretty sure a good chunk of people don't even know that the 2015 line even existed.

I think the problem is that they tried to market it to fans but the figures themselves were designed for very small kids and they had no idea or reason to care. All the cost-cutting shit with the simplified designs and identical masks sunk the toys.

Lack of appealing sets at low price ranges, like for example the Toa Mata and Bohrok were in the early years of G1. You can't expect new people, especially kids, to easily get into something that forces them to purchase huge expensive sets or be stuck with filler characters who have next to no story role.
And despite being the reboot of a line known for having a ridiculous amount of effort put into its lore, they half-assed the shit out of exactly that.

It failed mainly for what others already said, lack of meaningful marketing and visibility. Lego focused their budget and efforts on Ninjago and System.
Most sets cost too much and were too big, unlike impulse buys like Slizers or the original Toa. There was also competition with other action figure lines that have more visibility and media backing them up, including Lego's own Star Wars sets. Those also failed, but they probably ate into Bionicle's sales.
No on cared for the shitty low-effort webisodes, and the comics and novels came too late and were too obscure. There was no cartoon on a widely available international platform like CN. As a result most kids didn't give a damn about the sets because they didn't know these characters are their story. You'd think Lego would have learned how to manage a story-driven media franchise by now, but no. Lego seems to be permanently stuck in their learning phase. They killed the golden goose that is Ninjago too early, only to lose their shit when they realized they should keep a popular series going. Bionicle G2 got lost in the shuffle and Lego didn't apply their lessons from Ninjago to it.
Even if they had decent media support, the story was bare and dumb. Many characters had no names, which strangely isn't a problem in most other Lego lines. They made Bionicle extra simplistic. I doubt Lego's higher ups ever truly understood what made G1 "click". They probably thought G1 sales dwindled due to the complicated story, so they went too far into the other direction without addressing actual problems, such as the aforementioned media availability and accessibility.
There was also no Faber, Templar Studios, Swinnerton, Thompson or Farsthey. There was Ryder Windham, but he came in too late. The line also lacked a cool atmosphere. The art in the webisodes and packaging comics was a joke, and all the good looking stuff was only posted online. Neither the story, characters, nor the presentation grabbed kids.

They could have shelved Bionicle for just a couple more years in order to skip that lull, but they quite literally sent in the reboot to die on arrival. Finally got my Kopaka Mata a new sword through BL to replace his near-piss-yellow old one my sibling chewed up sometime in the early 2000s. Feels good to have the ol' team complete again.

Krika was the poster boy of the trio, and Takadox was designed and marketed to be one of the most prominent Barraki. Mantises are just really marketable.

I can see why people would see Krika as more of a Mantis considering he has the lanky proportions for one, but that's kind of it really. Like he doesn't even really have the articulation or build to be a mantis, compared to Takadox who has a more mantis-like upright posture and functional mantis claws.
Likewise his only real cricket feature is the fact that his legs are serrated (which is a pretty obscure trait for crickets) and maybe you could read the long head as cricket antennae, but that might be a stretch.

Overall he's a pretty ambiguous bug man, but the fact that his actual name is Krika is a pretty strong reason to just call him a cricket when he doesn't really have any definitive features. And the others aren't really even a question desu.

Retard, the 2015 (especially the 2016) Toa were the most complex Toa sets in the history of Bionicle and rival the the classic Titan sets. The build of the toys themselves wasn't even in the equation of why G2 failed.

Nah, the toys were fine. It was literally because they catered to spergs who didn't even buy the sets and spent no time marketing it to new audiences. If the sets had a higher budget it still would have failed. Most of the G1 fans they tried to pander to hated G2 solely because it was CCBS. No amount of new masks and armor would have won them over.

Got a question. Did Toa Nuva lost the ability to use Kanohi stored in their Suvas due to them being destroyed with the GSR? Last thing I remember about that is that any masks besides their own couldn't be accessed in Karda Nui.

That's the kind of system I've been shooting for. Clearly Lego doesn't know how to manage a completely unique system like CCBS, so sticking closer to basic Lego through mixel joints will keep costs down, sets smaller (I'd imagine back to Slizer sizes), and an easier to market product to a larger audience.

As jank as their technic function is I'm still having fun with it. It's pretty interesting how it works and because of the way the head gears are designed to skip it lets you pose them with their mouths open, which I like.

Also speaking of penny pinching from earlier, I find it really funny how frivolous they were with the 2001 and 2002 titan set manuals. All the Rahi and the Bahrags come with two mongo-sized instruction booklets for each figure when they're nearly identical aside from colour and one or two alt parts, or maybe a page or two of slightly alternate constructions depending on the set. Even as a kid I thought it was silly, like just have one manual for both, do all the instructions for one figure but have special pages for when the other figure has different steps. Maybe kids would have found that confusing I guess.

Imo all the masks that went for a defined animal motif or had sculpted-on teeth looked goofy and made the Makuta come off as rather cheesy. Especially compared to the elegance of the basic Kraahkan. Krika's mask is top notch though, it doesn't have an obvious, cartoony demonic bat-guy or creepy bug-person look.
I'm not even gonna beat around the bush, I'll admit that I didn't care for most of the '08 Makuta designs for the same reason I didn't like the Mistika Toa all that much. They're okay as designs detached from the characters, but I'd rather have most of the Makuta be bulkier and bigger.

Was never even a fan of the bat Makuta's anyway. Their motif was all too samey. Comparitively the bug Makutas are some of my favourite late canister sets.

I think that was part of the logic during '08 arc, since apparently makuta being scary bat people didn't drive the point clear enough.

I miffed no other eye pieces except the original mata eyepiece came in that red/pink colour. That was a pretty cool colour.

I'm miffed no other eye or head piece came even close to the variations of the Mata ones in general. There were like, legitimately something like 100 possible combinations of Mata eye and head colors.
Then there was only one wave where they used more than 2 Metru eye colors, and after that the most colors of anything like that we ever got were 4 Glatorian head colors...with one of them coming out 2 years after Bionicle ended.

I guess technically Bohork and Barraki eyes also have a lot of colors, but that's not quite the same.
