Giving Rey the ol' Youngling Slayer was a brilliant move because now they no longer have to have two Luke branded sabers, and one lightsaber can be the "girl's" saber. Now every lightsaber can have a unique character portrait and you can have the cartoons make silly toyetic crap for the kiddies who don't care about movie accuracy.

They could have made a sequel trilogy where they're not all dead. Follow through on the New Republic and New Jedi Order instead of killing both so they can effectively redo the Original Trilogy
