The box art is nice in concept but not very well executed. it's way too busy, it's mostly focused on the AR ghosts and the actual physical lego build has the same brightness and colors as the background so you have to look at it closely for a while to figure out what it looks like.
If you just glance at the boxes you can't really tell what the sets look like, that's not good advertising

What would you guys want to see from Hidden Side next year? This is what I's want:

-Carousel: A vintage-looking carousel similar in size to the 10257 one. Part of the decoration could be like clown heads that can be rotated to reveal possesed versions. Also possesed carousel horses, instead of people. They can use the regular horse bodies with a new head with a longer messy mane, similar to the new hairpieces introduced for the theme.

-Ferris Wheel: This one would have a gigantic minifigure face, similar to the Disneyland one. Of course, the main feature would be transforming the smiley face into a possesed one. It could like a main boss or something.

-Chair Swing Ride: Parker and Jack try to save several Newbury citizens who are tangled in the ride swings

-Haunted House: Biggest set of the wave. Even bigger than the school. It would be like those haunted carvinal attractions and you would have to use the app to reveal who are costumed workers and who are actually possesed

I think Hidden Side could continue more after ghosts. I think a Hidden Side monsters wave would work,an aliens too. On the alien side it could be like MIB where aliens dress as normal people. The theme has great potential and I could see some building to hide UFOs like that Mega Bloks theme Alien Agency which had a neat idea and I hope Lego will do this kind of stuff even if it would be it's own theme.

Ghost Costume Guy could have a funny ghost-themed t-shirt print on his torso that's not visible in promo images. Originally the Zombie Cowboy was supposed to be a zombified modern-day guy who went to a costume party dressed as a cowboy (this was way before the leaks for the CMF Cowboy Costume Guy), but I think I would like it better if it was a real Old West cowboy that was also a zombie (also decided way before the CMF CCG leaks).

Legally speaking you could make a papercraft moc using an instruction sheet. The only rule is that all the components have to be official Lego.

Yes. All in all a pretty decent set piece with a few play features and a ton of hand to hand weaponry. Then of course there's the four waifigs fighting over Luh-Lloyd (which makes me wonder if the Princess is soloing all three?).
If you're fond of red ninjas then get the Clutch Powers minifig set. Red ninja, fire snek, ice samurai, Clutch himself, and a small elemental build. I'm getting the Oni pack (x5) soon.

Thank you too! I typically prefer not to use the Speed Champions mudguards and wheels beacause not only are they limiting, but the are also too damn big. I normally try to make my cars as low and slimmed down as possible and those wheels do not allow for that most of the time.

The hells angels/ biker gang part is pretty cool IMO. Don't really care about the test though. 2 bikes would have been better.

But on your point, Ninjago could indeed improve if they had less vehicles but most characters good, if not awesome.
Too many good guys though, Sentai are nice but I don't need the same Minifigures in every other set.

Generic toys are underrated. Generic toys are much easier to write into any story. You can still do it with a licensed character but I doubt many of media indoctrinated kids are capable of creating their own headcanons.

Pick-a-Brick lets you order as many of each piece as you want, but the catalog is limited.

B&P has a cap of 200 per piece, so you could order 1000 red 2x4 bricks and 1000 blue 2x4 bricks from PAB but only 200 red 2x4 bricks and 200 blue 2x4 bricks from B&P.

Also, you don't get free shipping or VIP points for B&P orders, but I believe you do get both for PAB orders.

Also forgot to mention that PAB inventory are the extremely common items that are currently being produced at the moment you place your order, like standard basic bricks that will always be in production.

B&P's inventory includes stuff that was made in limited quantities like minifig torsos that only appeared in one set, so the inventory is constantly changing as their stock of older pieces from discontinued sets dwindle and run out, and new pieces from new sets are introduced to their warehouse.

In the past, Lego sets were more unfocused and basic; Lego Star Wars changed this up because it forced the designers to make sets that looked like their movie counterpart, so the themes and builds were more consistently solid.

However, if you compare the builds for modern non-licensed stuff, like Ninjago, their designs are on par with SW stuff.

Now, the big reason why people have a problem with it imo (I personally don't care because I never keep sets together for more than a week) is because having such a large percentage of their total sets being licensed means that the opportunities for fun in-house themes never get to come up. Lego obviously goes where the money is, which is why they put out basic City shit year after year (and City is one of, if not THE, best-selling lines) along with all the licenseshit, but rarely mix it up beyond stuff like City Jungle or City Volcano (which is sold concurrently with City Police). Part of the reason why so many people are excited about Hidden Side is that it's a break from the standard "minifig in striped torso running away with green 1x2 $100 tile" sets.

There's also a perception (maybe real) that Lego avoids in-house themes that stray too closed to licensed themes; no Lego Space because SW, no Lego Pirates because PotC, no Lego Castle because Harry Potter, etc.

Upgraded my space crew. Captain's the same, but this black pigtails hair is really working and unlike the last hair doesn't intersect the tail.

I was annoyed with how the tail rose up and didn't make contact with the base of the torso, so I boiled some water and bent the neck bracket. Worked perfectly.

Wonderful work. 90s era space themes are great. I MOC in these two themes as well.

Tell me about your process - do you first imagine the MOC ( or build it in LDD) and order the pieces or do you first get parts that work with a certain theme and then see what you can make?

I mostly do the latter, and order new parts as I go and need them.
Do you get "lots" of a certain theme and go with that?

I buy big lots of the sorts of pieces one winds up needing when building spaceships; panels, slopes, and inverted slopes, control panels, and the like. Then I free-build with the pieces I have on hand. If I find I lack an important piece, I make do with what I have, approximate it, and remember to buy the piece I need the next time I make a parts order, then finish the build.

Hey /lg/, I just got a bunch of free stuff. Judging from the instruction booklets that I also got with these, it looks like parts from sets 21118, 41057, 41175, 41172, 41077, and 41129. So mostly girly stuff and one Minecraft set. I'm not really sure what percentage of parts from those I have, but there's a fair bit here.

So I have 2 questions:
First and most importantly, how does one clean Lego? This is the first big batch I've ever got used.
Second, about how much do you think this little haul is worth?

Get the biggest container that you can easily fill with hot water, fill it with hot water and some dish soap, and soak your pieces in that for a couple hours. Then use a colander/ strainer to dump the water out (if you don't have one you can just fish everything out but it's easier if you can just pour it all through a strainer). If the pieces are still dirty you can soak them again; otherwise just rinse them under hot water and set them all out on a towel to dry. A lot of pieces will collect a water bead inside, so you might want to tap or blow on the pieces to get most of the water out before you set them down to dry.

Be careful that you don't have any pieces go down the drain!

I can't believe all of you guys are completely eating up Hidden Side. Not to be contrarian, but it's easily the biggest disappointment of the year to me.
>transformation gimmick is lame
>same 2 main characters in every set
>the ghosts appear only in the shitty app, no actual ghost minifigures
>said shitty app holds your interest for 5 minutes max, and is ultimately a massive waste of resources that could have instead gone into more prints, models, etc

The only good thing I can say about Hidden Side is that it's a new original theme. But even so, if it's going to be handled this poorly, licensed shit is still preferable to this half-assed garbage.

I imagine the team in charge was given a set budget that included AR development, part allocations at each price point, etc., so in order to field test the viability of this new concept, the sets themselves end up having a lot of corners cut to compensate.

Who knows, maybe this will get big and we'll see a third wave with prints.

yeah, the needed budget for the AR app probably is the reason for why there's not too many new pieces. Although Nexo Knights also did have an app now that I think about it.
But I also feel like they intended NK to be a big line and gave it a bigger budget and marketing push, whereas Hidden Side seems to be more of a 1 or 2 wave side theme, like Monster fighters or Alien Conquest.

Make your own. Building train MOCs is reasonably cheap, once you have the initial wheels / buffers etc you can reuse them for lots of different locomotives.

Example is a bit heretical but I'll allow it for parts like driving rods where the Lego version is so primitive
