Since we are getting new non-Johnny Thunder, can we discuss older cars used by Adventurers? From left to right:

Yellow: Egypt Desert
>5918 - simple but solid offroader with a lot of space
>2995 - a little bigger version with longer bed
>2879/5909/5948 - black weaponized version with more detailed engine
>5978 - more detailed and longer than 5918
>5958 - low and sleek roadster, not the best choice for rough terrain
>5988 - big and clumsy truck
>3722/5919 - strange and thin but comes with a spare wheel
Green: Amazon Jungle
>5936 - small two seater with a spare wheel, lacks headlights
>5986 - much better than the previous one but still not as detailed as ones in Egypt Desert, bigger rear wheels
Red: Dino Island
>5934 - all-terrain tracked vehicle, much bigger than every previous one
>5975 - very strange little buggy, I didn't list truck from the same set
>5920 - another low and sleek speedster, this time single seater, again rather bad choice for offroad
>5987 - clumsy single seater with a spare wheel
Blue: Orient Expedition
>7419 - half-track
>7424 - lazy abomination, it is there only because it's 6-wide as opposed to similar 4-wide ones
>7414 - small offroader similar to the first (top left corner) one but not as spacious
I didn't list 4-wide or promotional sets. They are not worth it.

Which one is your fav and why? How about creating a car for CMF19 minifig?

5918 is iconic, and probably the most associated with Johnny Thunder aside from the Racers-exclusive car.

I like them branching into giving other characters their own vehicles, especially the likes of 5920.

I'd love to create variants of those vehicles, but I don't have the two-seater piece, I lost everything from my small adventurers collection over the years.
Good to see them reviving the piece with that Hidden Side set, I wish they reuse it again in a cheaper set though.

I know it will never happen, but Lego should bring back classic space style sets. I love the color schemes they had. Light grey with trans green windscreens/windows, blue or blue/light grey with trans yellow windscreens and windows, even the white with black or blue and trans dark blue was cool. Space? I just want cool ships that aren't Star Wars. Not all of the original CS ships were good, and not all 90s Lego ships were good, but damn, at least there was variety and they tried things.

As far as what theme I'd like? Either a new IP like 90s space themes were - a space exploration theme in a certain environment/planet or a simple explorer theme that's not NASA or close-future. Maybe Man vs Wild but in space - with daring adventurers braving the dangers of worlds than man has never seen before. >>7727324 has a good picture of it.

I really like this. Out of all the CS color combinations I feel the Gray/Trans Dark Green combo is by far the most underrated.
Almost all MOCs you see that are CS MOCs go for the classic gray/trans yellow/blue or the white/blue/trans dark blue.
To me that's a real shame, as the third color scheme looks very good to me. As such I've decided to MOC mostly in this color.
To that effect here's a small rover.

I have few more mechs with some design similarities, with some fantasy elements added here and there. I imagine them as a knightly order of mechs & an assault squad.

The real story is that I really liked the head&mech design in "future flyers" set, and started to make gray versions of them because I ended up with lots of gray pieces after a major star wars discount. Added spiky bits and insignias for the cool factor.

Here's an old picture of the crew I assembled. I've changed quite a bit since this picture was taken. The command center was redone and I didn't like it, so I dismantled it. Was tired of the less than colorful scheme, so I've changed their uniforms to a blue suit and I'm working on adding blue to the ships and mechs that still currently exist.

I also forgot to mention that I changed their faces to be more unique. My reason for doing so is to differentiate my traveling space man from the others. I've been dealing with some more cracks from this cursed torso, so that's why I went with changing the Nomads to the classic Spyrius torso.

Not sure why but those lime arms on the Atlantis torsos are REALLY prone to cracking. I've owned like 12 of them by now and I swear over half had cracks even tho the figure itself was very good condition in terms of scuffs etc.

I would like to see some updated space design. Bring back more modular and interchangable vehicles. A little bit like Starcom but in lego.
Big vehicles can be seperated in parts and mixed.
Middle sized vehicles can be transformed and transported by any big vehicle. Small vehicle features equipment that can be detachted and exchanged with the big vehicles.

Setting would be similar to Starcom.
An astrofleet that explores our sunsystem and protects corporate missions like the mining company M-tron.
Villians is Blacktron. Who wants to rule space and the ressources.
Later on you could add Lunar or Mars settlings/corporations like in Babylon5 or Total Recall. Or just Space Golddigger who look like Hillbillies in spacesuits and glassbowl helmet.

Once a peaceful collection of civilian botanists in Classic Space, their civilization was destroyed by a passing Blacktron armada. Fleeing the ruins of their homeworld in hastily-constructed greenhouse ships, they used their advanced science to develop plants that produced 500 times as much oxygen as normal! Eco-Tron vehicles are powered not by dark matter or crude nuclear fusion, but the very breath of life itself!

Every Eco-Tron set would come with at least one plant under glass. Larger sets would include a trans-clear version of this piece

Casual fan here. Every now and again I buy a set or two, but then forget this hobby, never really committing to it.

However, for those that are more hardcore, do you think there are "better" or "worse" times to start collecting legos? Like, is there always good themes available, or are some of them better than others? For example I know the newest thing now is the Hidden Side theme. Lego only continues a set past the second wave if it's making money. Ninjago has been running for something like 11 years because ninjas, mechs, and off-road vehicles are perennial favorites with little boys. Conversely, Nexo Knights, which was a medieval-futuristic blend of Castle and Space, didn't sell so well and got the axe after a couple of years.

So to answer your question, there was a ghost theme several years ago called Monster Fighters and the sets go for big bucks now. There's no guarantee that Hidden Side, or any type of spooky set, will be available in five years, or even two years.

How much does that affect your hobby, what do you think? Do people get bothered if they "missed" some sets/themes?

When I was a child, we'd happily just use the parts that we had, but legos back then were a lot simpler too. Now it seems everything revolves around very special pieces/themes.

Figuring out how to organize them relative to each other is the problem, the main issue I face is containers. I have hardly any space, but I have a large cube bookcase in my closet, and I organize my parts in tupperware containers with labels, as well as drawers, bags, and larger boxes of unsorted used parts.
What I do is take a container full of random shit, dump it on a table, and kinda mindlessly toss different parts in their respective bin. You can just repeat that process for different types of pieces so you aren't taking one part and looking for one out of 50 boxes it goes in. A few parts at a time.
Sometimes I'll first sort in larger categories, and then later go through and seperate out specifics.

I had issues of space too.

What I did was buy two of these. It's a small parts case for car mechanics with a handle on top so I can move it around wherever I want to work. A tall case like this is much easier to find room for than a broad one, in my experience.

Also sort your pieces by type IMO. It's much easier to find the color you want in a sea of identical parts than the part you want in a sea of the same color.

They were all together connected.
Blacktron Ogel is a great great great grandson of the original Ogel. He just continous the family corporation, in space!
Spyrius was always Blacktron, but space intelligence called is Spyrius because their leader is called Spyrius, it took some years till people found out its the technical arm of Blacktron.
And Ice Planet was M-tron, but people called it Ice Planet because it was catchier and addressed the name of a holograph docu series "Ice Planet - hardest job in the sunsystem - prsented by M-tron.

Hope i made it clear it is all coherent.

Everyone will hate this but I recommend sorting by color and sub-sorting each color by type.

It depends on your building technique though. I find my method optimal if you already know which colors you'll need before you start building.

I agree. The other sorting that can come before coloring is special bricks, like antenna or joints, and normal bricks, plates slopes.
But it really depends on building behaviour and what MOCs you build.
If its vehicles, that special bricks options are least. If its more mechs and characters, than seperating the special bricks first makes sense.

I mean I guess I'm pretty attached to the original lore in which Spyrius is the name of a planet as well as the people from that planet.

Also Spyrius people being space communists. I don't think of Blacktron as commies.

I do the same, sorting by colour and type, like all white bricks or plates in one drawer and then I make stacks of the specific parts.
It's helpful because when I need a white 1x1 plate, I likely also need other white plates and already have the drawer full of them next to me.
But for special and mostly minifig related pieces like food items, weapons or flags I do sort just by type.

"Lore" is relative with Lego up until the last 10 years or so, but I always got my inspiration from the Lego catalogues. Now mind you I'm from Europe so there's no guarantee our catalogues were the same. Even within Europe there was variation.

The large window pieces are $1.50 each on B&P, and the flags and printed 2x4 tiles are less than a dollar each. Globes were temporarily out of stock but will be refreshed soon if they haven't already done so.

I've never had any pieces crack like this. I'm not in america and I handle pieces and connection very delicately.
I must conclude that either
1) sets in the US are improperly produced or stored, leading to brittle pieces
2) some people are just massively ham handed and blame it on Lego

You don't just fucking mishandle basic bricks and deliberately breaking them would look different.
It's more due to overly short cooling times due to extremely high quantities of bricks getting manufactured (the amount of different sets has doubled in the last decade to over 800), different plastic/pigment mixtures and other environmental influences.
Also, this shit is finding its way even onto the goddamn official boxart and brown bricks cracking is a problem that Lego officially acknowledged.

Still, none of my bricks ever cracked save for a few transparent 1x1 studs from the 90s. So why is that?
Are all the cracked bricks produced in the mexican factories, while mine come from the danish and hungarian ones? Is that what is going on?

how many pieces do you have? Maybe you're just lucky.
I'm from Europe too and I often feel like I have less cracking with basic bricks and minifigs than others, but brown bricks and everything with clips, especially the stupid battle droid arms, are definitely fragile

I couldn't quantify them but I can tell you I have the Old Fishing Store and the Scooby Doo sets which are recent and have a fair amount of brown, and none of them are cracked.

I have, among other things, 5 modulars, the Saturn V, Fishing Store, '66 Batman, no cracking.

Maybe I'm just massively lucky? Maybe that's where all my luck went.

sadly, fox suit looks bad ,white parts printed too thin again and should have been darker orange, still worth it for licking lips face and chicken.
coder girl looks much better with the ugly hair piece switched out, her little robot thing is cute.
mummy, wukong, knight and neo JT are excellent, still prefer old JT tho.

I might at one point just give in and add dark grey. The models look different when you're actually holding them - the lack of a third accent color doesn't seem as striking and I've often wanted to add one then gone back.

I suppose I'll convert some of them and give it a try, but by now I've got so many of them the whole project feels like a huge undertaking. It would require me taking all the builds apart, figuring out what parts could be swapped and actually getting those parts put in - which means a huge BL order.

It doesn't help that I'm working on other projects as well, like the new castle add-on I've ordered and a new white space faction. Not to mention expanding Blacktron 1, Futuron and making more CS MOCs.

I'll give you the other points, but I do think the overall alien vehicle design was cool. But you're right, while cool, they all basically felt the same.

While the alien side was pretty bland and same-y, the creativity and overall aesthetics of the vast majority of the human vehicles made this one of my favorite space themes. Shit, the Drill Walker alone is one of the best lego sets of all time, IMO.

This is my favorite part of the set because when I was a little kid I had a Classic Space moon buggy that came with a spare grey air tank that was attached to the buggy as part of the build.

Made a big score off of facebook marketplace, however, some of the key minifigs are somewhat yellowed. I plan on doing the peroxide/oxy clean strat most people use, but I have one reservation: will the process damage prints? Are there steps or precautions I can take to protect them, should they need it?

pic related is two yellowed pieces and a clean one, although the camera didn't really do it justice, it's worse than it appears.

I've never had a problem with hydrogen peroxide damaging prints. The stuff you buy in a pharmacy seems to be too weak to do anything to them. You wouldn't want to cover them up, because the white areas that you cover up would stay yellowed.

The thing I worry about is prints fading from sun exposure, but that doesn't seem to have happened either, and I've done it several times with great results every time.

Death masks were used by a lot of societies actually.

But yeah, Egyptians were totally into it. The problem is they were easy to steal, so few survived.

A well-protected, or well-cursed, mummy would probably be walking around with a mask showing what they looked like while they were alive. Or at least a really flattering caricature anyway.
Since they would probably have some bitterness and disappointment over not having a body of perfect liquid fleshy gold, the mask would probably mean a lot to them.

Tut’s was gold gilded over wood. Most of the rest that we know about were wood, clay, or polished stone.

Only way this could work is if they made individual molds for the heads of each character like with the Simpsons minifigs, adding even more to the price of a hypothetical set on top of it being licenseshit.
If anything, a Dimensions pack would have been a nice home for GF in lego form, but the game being more of a Warner Bros. thing would likely be a problem.
Getting rejected from ideas was the best decision.

Resident Egyptologist here, they were called death shrouds and they were the recreation of the now deceased persons living face.
Fun fact, when LEGO created this particular female mummy the used the death shroud from Ahmanet, the Egyptian queen who was most famous in pop culture due to her role in the 2017 the mummy.
Oddly enough the adventurer seen in the same cmf set is actually based heavily from Tom cruise and it’s a noticeable similarity in that they used the shorter legs to be true to life.

6 wide is max for minifig scale. 8 for heavy vehicles only. Anything above that is overscaled unless it's some special like mining dumper truck.
In fact some 6 wides are already overscaled. I really dislike speedchampions for that reason. Supersport cars are supposed to be low and sleek meanwhile these are even taller than standing minifig. I think only Johnny Thunder sets got away with this because they used old fashioned offroad cars so it's natural that these are high.

Finally got an idea for a build but I don't want to spend time in a cad program because that's what I do for real stuff. It's a building so I'd end up wanting to making it at scale instead of trying to make it at minifig scale.
But there's a set that would be a pretty good basis of parts, so maybe I should get that and collect an expanded part list as I build.

It comes down to what the rules are for the magazines themselves. In my country they have some retarded higher tax on magazines which is probably what bumps the price. At 4 euros I'd absolutely pick up some of them at least.

I made this Gran Torino. I was looking for a muscle car to add it to the Hidden Side team so it couldn't be yellow/red because of the school bus and the Fuego's truck, so I think I'm going to mod this one. My other idea was a police car, but I don't know what colours should I use (I think black/white won't look good for a small town like Newbury).

Like the other anon said, type. The reasoning behind this is as follows: It's easier to rummage through a bucket of 1 x 1s and find one red one than it is to rummage through a big bucket of unicoloured pieces to find one shape.
HOWEVER. Sorting is very dependant on your collection ofcourse.
I mostly use the system as mentioned above, but I do have some baggies with more rare colours (dark torqoise, dark purple, dark magenta, orange, sand blue).
The reasoning behind this is that: When i plan on building something in a 'rare' colour, this makes it easier to see what selection of shapes and pieces i'm limited to. It's faster to dump out and check this one kind of clusterfucky bag than to go through literally ALL my containers to check if i have a piece in Dark Torqoise in them that i might've forgot.

Don't mix any smaller parts with large pieces, they'll settle to the bottom and be a pain to fish out.

This one is 8 studs wide. It can fit two minifigs inside. I usually prefer 6 studs wide cars, but at this moment I'm enjoying more to build 8s wide cars.

I separate by color and each color is sorted into: bricks, plates, tiles, slopes, clips, bars, round pieces, other
Occasionally when a color has specific pieces like leaves, i'll put those in their own ziploc bag

Fright knight is top tier, bounty hunter still looks good even though the render is cooler. I swapped out the head and hairpiece for the gardener because I didn't like it as much.
Accidentally got a duplicate of the shower guy because I messed up feeling for firefighter, might use it to make a female shower fig.

lights: 2x random lamp pointed away from the subject
camera: some used canon from ebay, I think it cost me 40

Tripod and 2-second delay so the shots are nice and sharp.

I don't even "clip" stuff on anymore - I had modern chima stuff shatter on me, not just crack, and now I'm scared of this piece. I "slide" poles into the side and down to avoid stressing the joint... and if it's to store a weapon I'll want to pull out again later to put on a minifig, I don't even try.
