My local geek shop has stopped stocking any premium figures (except for mezcos for some reason) and given she shelves to funkos.

I can't really blame them though, their SHF's and Storms and whatever else didn't move at all and then I would buy them all up when they got discounted.

Meanwhile there are kids and "normies" buying buttloads of funkos every time I go there.

It's inevitable. Funko Pops:

Funko's were bound to overtake any other place because they're good enough and hit the price point that most people are willing to buy. The only way to beat them is to have something that can both be collectable, appeal even more than their designs, and be CHEAPER while still having the giant character library it has.

I feel like in general when you're blinded by the Yen you don't think of the price as much, but when you see the price right up front, and it's something like 70+USD for a 5-6" plastic figure (not going to go into the perceived value of fabric and Mezco stuff) it kind of makes you take pause. Am Canadian, and I recall at EB they had the Figma Link and Zelda on the shelves. They've been there for over a year at this point. I asked one of the employee's the price and they kinda pulled at their collar awkwardly and said something like 110 and 80 respectively, then made a comment about the price. They were quite obviously toy collectors, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the perception most have when they see or hear that price. Kinda just a wide eyed look and say "ok cool" and put it back down. Much the same for many collectors too I'd imagine.

In Oregon there's a Star Wars store that's nothing but actual Star Wars action figures, vintage up to modern stuff. Plenty of vehicles too. It felt surreal, I've never seen so many toys in one place since TRU shut down.

local walmart recently brought some of these (I'm from PR and not from the metro area, bear with me here) and it's been close to five months now and they are still warming shelves.
