As far as 99% of people, the director and everyone who made this movie included, the last time we saw the Joker was the Dark Knight. This new Joker has several layers on top of the character as well, since the whole movie is devoted to him and they get pretty blunt about his mental health issues. But Ledger's Joker is the father of this Joker, they're interchangeable in most ways. I think the new movie will be good so i'm not talking shit here, but i'm under no false pretenses.
