I really don't like Metro Nui as a whole, the whole story was a linear progression and then Vakama snapped out of his Alzheimer and remembered he was a Toa and then the same happened with the Visorak arc. At least the Visorak story was more engaging than the previous one.

It's funny that the main Toa team don't have a single movie about them. They are sidekicks to Jaller and Takua in MoL and then never appear again other than the cameo at the end of LoMN. And the only one to even have anything resembling a plot in MoL is Tahu and that ends up totally inconsequential anyway.

Unpopular opinion but I loved 2008 including the Av and Shadow Matorian. But I do agree the 2003 Matoran were da bes.

2005 and 2006 were the worst year for small sets. The Rahaga were literally just the same little pile of scrap six times over. Only positives were Bohrok feet and Rahkshi heads in Metru colors. The Voya Nui Matoran were still just thrown together piles of scrap. At least they were different from one another but straight reuses of the Metru Kanohi, not even recolors, made them worse than the Rahaga.

Although at this point I'd say the Uniter Creatures from 2016 are my favorite small sets.

Too bad that's not how MoL used them, they were more like bickering kids and general dumbasses, until they decided to be competent at the end, at which point the film shoved them literally into the background.
I think a good way of presenting the Mata would be to go the MNOG route at the start, show only glimpses of them from the Matoran's pov, have them do a couple fight scenes and have the islanders speak of them as figures of legend. Then gradually begin showing them more, revealing them to be people with their own identities, faults and grievances to develop them as characters, but without diminishing them in the eyes of the villagers who still have a godlike reverence to them. This is of course speaking hypothetically, cause a short kiddie flick like MoL obviously couldn't do something like this.

I just replaced mine with the closed style lime sockets they started using in 2008. Those can still crack but it's easier to find working ones of those than it is to find working og style lime green sockets.

Just got a chink Uniter Gali. Quality’s definitely not fooling anyone, but it holds solidly and it itches that scratch for building new bonkles. My first time building a 2016 set—still don’t care for how it looks in the end, so I don’t exactly regret not buying it when it came out, but the build isn’t bad.

Only mildly disappointed all the shells she comes with are the wrong size (5 instead of 4), since I kind of wanted those azure shells, but you can’t really complain when it comes to cheapass bootlegs.

And it has a dark blue eye stalk, which alone makes it a worthwhile purchase. It’s pretty damn cool. I knew there were yellow and red bootleg eyes, but didn’t know about this one or that she came with it. A Groot should be getting here soonish, and that’s supposed to come with a red one, so now if I can get something with a yellow one I’ll have six G2 eye colors. The ideal number.

You can never know. I have barely touched my Ehlek and Hahli Mahri figs for years, and their split joints continued to disintegrate themselves even further. A couple of them developed further cracks mere millimeters from each other and some cracks got so big that they reached the center of the piece, effectively splitting it nearly in half. The joints lost all friction by that point. Of course the parts in question were exposed to air and light for over a decade. Maybe they'll fare better if you put them away. Strangely, though, some of their other cracked joints are still tight.

Yeah the 08 style sockets are designed to still hold tightly if they crack around the edges of "loops", however in practice it's very common for them to crack at the base of the "loops" by design, and if that happens badly they just don't grip anymore.

08 style sockets are still reliable enough though, just make sure you always order extra when you plan to use them.

The set designers weren't really beholden to any strictly defined palette, so there's no reason anyone else should be, especially for elements that never had any physical representation.

I can sort of see why Greg went for blue and green, as some trees can be more bluish, especially evergreens. Assuming that's the intended color scheme- if Bo-tribers are meant to be teal that could have been Greg choosing a fan favorite color like he did with Gravity.

Really Jungle/The Green beings could potentially run the entire color wheel. My canon uses brown and (shades of) green as well, because that sums up things nicely- which colors do you think about first when I say "plants"? I bet most will answer brown and green.

Is there much overlap between Lego system and Bionicle fans? I've always assumed if you were really into Bionicle you weren't much of a fan of the other and vice versa. I remember getting generic lego sets up to a point then exclusively Bionicle sets once they existed until stopping everything lego altogether.

A while back I had a piece that ended up marred just from being dropped. Lego plastic from around the past 5 years or so has a noticeably waxier texture than it used to. Not hard to imagine quality getting even worse since then, to the point of brown parts disintegrating out of the box.

I can only speak for myself, but I used to be real into Systemshit too and occasionally still bought it after I got into Bionicle, but due to money and shelf space limitations, I mainly committed myself to the latter as I was into both the toys and the lore. And once it was over I gave up on Lego as a whole because after having missed out on so much shit while I focused on Bonks, I just didn't feel like going back anymore. And I had no space to put them anyway.
But in general, it's a widely circulated factoid that a lot of classic System fans, including those working at Lego, fucking hate Bionicle cause it's so different from the stuff they love.

Man, that seems like a wasted opportunity. Personally, I think G2 should have been more of a cross over between system and CCBS. Use the Bionicle stuff as sort of titans and giants to terrorize the normal minifigs.

Against the Toa, the Lord of Skull Spiders isn't much of a threat. Against the whole team of Nexo Knights, and it's a different story.

Ninjago team have to work together to take down a Skull Basher, now there is an army of Skull Warriors and a Skull Grinder leading them! Fortunately the Ninjago team manage to waken the Mask Maker, so they have a new hope...

I think I've come to the realization that I just really fucking hate system. Like, 0% interested in anything involving minifigures or even studs. I feel like technic and g1 parts (CCBS is fine if used well, peppered in with classic elements) are the only things I'd want to see in any new Bionicle material and are now the only parts I ever want to MOC with. It might have something to do with the Lego Star Wars sets falling by the wayside recently due to the dearth of new and interesting ships from the new films, but even the new UCS kits and such are only somewhat enticing. If I had to choose between Lego continuing to make Bionicle but with system pieces, or having them just sell the license to Bandai and make gunpla style kits of existing figures from the old lore, then I'd take the latter any day. Pretty similar to what I experienced. I had a few of the Throwbots prior to Bionicle and I sorta saw them as their successor. It was interesting to see how Technic based it was to begin with and then slowly Bionicle kinda became its own thing.

I' so used to people shitting on every aspect of G2 I ended up internalizing some of that hate myself just to avoid negativity from the community. Yeah, story was fine if only a tad shallow in some basic aspects (see Windham naming himself protectors since LEGO didn't even bother), but as I said it was golden material for headcanons no one bothered to have excpet me and a couple of other crackheads.

I wouldn't go that far. To me, what good atmosphere it had was also brought down by the unabashed cheesiness of the visual media, and stuff like the dumb jokes, obnoxiously corny narration and the unappealing art style of the webisodes and comics. If there was anything outstanding, it was those environmental pictures and the later revealed concept artwork that Lego shared online and in the concept book, but didn't put to better use in their actual promotions. The boxart images also had hints of a sadly under-explored atmosphere with beautiful, moody backdrops you were aching to explore, and some of the music had a sense of straight-faced epicness the line sorely needed. But apart from those, much of the presentation in the media was so goofy that I got nothing out of it apart from the feeling of wasted potential.

At that point there were no instructions whatsoever, people weren't interested in delivering either so I decided to build him through trial and error. Which came to a smoothly build that looked a lot like the original MOC

If they're not Toa, I rather them not have elemental powers, and if they do they should be limited, IE can create and/or manipulate the element but can't absorb it, can't do Nova Blasts, longer recharge times, etc. Kind of like the pseudo-elmental Rahkshi.
I prefer if complete Elemental Powers remain a Toa-only thing.

How do you guys store all your Bionicle related stuff? Currently starved for space in my room.The canister sets I have their corresponding set inside; don't think I can do much else with these. Then I have a bunch of built 2001 Rahi and 2003-04 Titans in some boxes. I've thought about taking these apart but duno if the amount of space saved would be even that noticeable. The 04 titans were pretty compact as is.

At some point I had them all just out in the open but over time they slowly got boxed, Only "toys" left visible are some DBZ figs and a few anime tiddies figs. Kinda sad to think about, I feel like Andy in toy story 3 right now

Some other giant toy brands that were all the rage in the West in the 80s and 90s, like Transformers, were not as readily available and affordable in the rest of the world, and still aren't. Bionicle happened to come out at just the right time, when countries like Russia were pulling themselves together after the fall of the Soviet Union. Not really. This is Bionicle after all, where real physics don't apply and not even logic stops Greg from writing scenes the way he wants. Ice sinks and water droplets are visible underwater. So fire blasts in water aren't a big stretch.

Normally when you want fire you have to burn something and if you pick the right thing it might even work underwater, but with elemental powers you're likely already ignoring that by just shooting fire without anything else. This. Sometimes it can work if they have enough variation (mata) but when we're talking more complex figures it's nice to see more variation in shape and weapons, etc.
The inika also just look off. I can forgive similarity if the sets still look good (kal) but it didn't work in this instance.

just looked that up, I stopped buying bonks right around 2009 so i guess thats why i never knew about the light blue iron man head. still though, you'd think they could have continued the trend earlier with the metru eyes, even if only continuing to produce light blue since that lets light in as effectively as light green and orange. i understand stopping with dark green and blue though i still think matau's red works almost as well. and yeah, pink and purple and yellow all could have worked wonderfully, i wonder if theres a way to create custom versions with different trans plastics.

Make a clay mold and buy a clear resin, set it in a pressure cooker (the ones specifically for resin and clay) and just experiment with the colors etc. If you've done it before it should be really easy, just a handful of experiments. If it's your first time, it'll be tough to get right.
