I feel like there was a near identical system in Australia sometime around the 1970s or 1980s, except with red plastic rail segements instead of wood. Does anybody know the one? It had turntables and signals and everything.

Excluding proper scale model trains... LEGO is the best. It offers endless possibilities. BRIO was also quite expensive so it wasn't really a big deal.

Although I never had any BRIO as a kid, one of my favorite memories was going to a local bookshop with a train table and playing with the green BRIO train with the spinning red and white striped boiler (33226).

I would legitimately buy those. They look like the kind of stuff they sell at the heritage railway gift shops, wooden train replicas of their own engines and all that. Your trains would fit right in with the stuff that BigJigs and Heritage Wooden Railway are putting out.

Fondly enough, you're not the first person to suggest I sell these and I have definitely considered it. But I really need to simplify the build process because making some of the cuts and details take a bit of time. I'm hoping to buy a CNC router soon to make multiple copies of each part faster. If I could get it down to 1 fully assembled loco/car per hour I will sell them.

Any particular trains that people would like to see as a wooden toy? I think my next one will be this NSWGR C38, 3801, probably one of the most well known engines in Australia.

Played with these a ton as a kid, before many pieces became plastic. Simpler times, they look very good and cute.
