I was able to get the DF God Vegeta head for a good price on AliExpress. Took a while for it to get here, but it was worth the wait. I like this sharper sculpt than the new one and I’m definitely glad to have more faces than just a smirking one.

It hasn't aged bad...they've just used it enough, so it was time for something different.

And it really looked best on Super Vegeta anyway. It wasn't totally accurate for base or Majin Vegetas to begin with.

I really liked the DF Gogeta hair.
Until I realized that it would be the only figure with that style of hair, with most having the yellow with the orange shading.
SS3 Goku's hair is the closest to that DF head set, I think.
Worst of all, Armored Broly's SS hair is matte.

Goku/Frieza look better here. Fits more with the Siayan Saga theme ya got going on.

Also, props on that pose. I've never seen it done before, and it looks REALLY good. I may steal it at some point.

I could accept that metallic yellow if it fit the other releases, but Bandai has a tendency of having a matte banan yellow with orange shading and I'd prefer consistency there.
As an aside, I'd be happy if the inevitable official Vegito Blue ends up with the same metallic blue hair as Goku, Vegeta and Gogeta.

Luckily, event Gohan is nothing more than a holdover.
Since Bandai has mostly decided to have SS be matte yellow with orange shading, they should stick to it. Hopefully DF can make a second Gogeta head set release like they did with the Trunks one originally.
But the blue should stay the metallic one on all the Broly SSB figures.

Had to make the exact same decision a few months ago. Here's the order I got them in:

1st - Super Buu
2nd - 21
3rd - Fat Buu

All three are really good figures, but Super Buu is easily one of the best DBZ figures out there. Definitely get him first, I can see him getting up there in price in a year or two.

They were good enough at the time because it was basically a "this or nothing" type deal. Even with that, I still really disliked the shoulders on every 1.0 Goku and I really hated the original SS3 Goku. All of the Dragon Ball 2.0s makes me wish they'd go back and do 2.0s of the Naruto figures but that's probably never gonna happen.

The 2.0's can definitely be improved upon in articulation and looks. The faces and hair are fine, muscle sculpts are fine, but the pants, what the fuck is up with the fucking pants and legs of every 2.0? Those weird segments at the hips, the weird "logs" that come out of the inner thighs, it just looks weird as fuck. That can definitely be redone, and better. Vegeta is especially bad for this, because he's got his leg movement impeded by this shit. Also Freeza 2.0 still has a diaper waist sort of look.

If you're asking for nitpicks, there's always room for sculpt to be better since the figuarts zero and banpresto (which is a company under bandai) sculpts of the same sizes have better looks to them than the SHF. The shapes they pick for biceps could be better and match the respective era of Toriyama they're supposed to be. Current figs look and work great for their retail pricepoint but aren't as perfect as what Bandai does for SHF or SHFSS Kamen Rider, in my opinion. It's all understandable though because it is really hard to do anime into 3D sculpts. The decal shapes for the eyes could also still be improved in my opinion.

I started collecting SHF of Dragon Ball since SROE Goku and the Buu stuff and have to say I'm happy with what I paid but would not complain if they make these obsolete in a few years, I'd happily pay for the upgrades. I refused to buy the top row releases because they still felt really awkward sculpt wise. For recent releases I can't say every face sculpt was done well. SSGSS Goku's face sculpt looked really off to me, as well as that event exclusive Gohan. Broly, Frieza and Super Buu + Buu are the best in my opinion.

I made a thread about this over a year ago predicting the line would slow down after the Super anime ended.

I acknowledged that the dub was still airing and that the Broly movie would help keep the momentum in 2019, but with ToP due to end this weekend they are relying on syndication and home video releases now for cross promotion.

We have "Kakarot" dropping in Jan, but I don't think it's enough to turn it around, and with GeGeGe no Kitarō still holding the FujiTV slot until July 2020 we may see a new pattern of a release every other month next year.

At least if the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga does get adapted next Summer we could see things pickup again in 2021.

There's still plenty of stuff going on with the property, though. It isn't like it was pre BoG where almost nothing was happening. Even without the anime, there's still the manga, some games, mobile games, Heroes, the physical card games, etc.

DB has been more lively in the last 5 years, than it has since maybe 1998 to like 2003ish when DBZ was at its height worldwide. I'm sure the line is slowing a little, but that's certainly not for lack of demand, nor lack of things for them to make.

Have they announced a single fucking thing through this tour? Last year they revealed Broly, Hercule, A.21, Super Buu, SSB Goku and Vegeta, and Great Saiyaman if I'm not mistaken. This year we got what? Tao was announced on their Instagram and later shown at a tour stop. All that comes to mind is MIU Goku and we all know how that turned out

Calm down guys, I never said the line is dead, it just doesn't make financial sense for Bandai to push hard on figures when the "marketing machine" is in hibernation mode. Toy manufactures like Bandai typically capitalize on the hype, when they know everyone and their dog will buy figures on impulse just because their kid saw a poster at the bus stop, or watched an episode over their breakfast before school.

With the movie a distant memory and the anime ending in the US, they need another big cross promotion to help sell units.

I agree. There's no big hype behind it right now like there was when Super was still airing.
Them wrapping up the DB line quickly to have the 7 balls out, as well as getting out Jiren and UI Goku to cash in on that last bit of Super hype are signs of the line diminishing.
Now we start to see it, no Dec release, no March release. I wonder if we'll even see more than 1 or 2 more new reveals through the remainder of the DB tour.

Not confirmed. Based on DB's long history with FujiTV, it is very unlikely it will come back on a different network or time slot. This means no return until GNK finishes it's run, which based on the past 5 series will be at least 100 episodes, Summer 2020.

So at best, if we do get an announcement in spring and a summer airing, we may see pre-orders picking up again for the Fall/Winter, but it's almost guaranteed to be a slow Summer.

On the bright side it's a good time to focus on other lines, or fill out the gaps in your collection. I'm looking at you SAS! =)

The prices on bring arts really are dumb. Managed to get the ff9 set at a good amount lower then retail. I like the look of the DQ11 set too but I'm kind of set on completing the 9 set and cant justify getting 2 entire sets for the pricepoints.

But no one is freaking out, and no one said you claimed the line is dead, but saying dragonball is in "hibernation mode" is stupid, since there's still the gasha games and Heroes, and statues/prize figures/coin figures come out based on those all the time. On top of that, the DBS manga is still going on. Heroes is HUGE right now. Scaling the line way down now would be dumb because there's still so much going on.

Especially since I was pointing out when the line started back in 2009, there was almost literally nothing going on back then for DB...maybe there was DBKai? Which was effectively just reruns.

They can't really mimic the Ultra Instinct aura perfectly, or any aura for that matter.
But what they can do is pack a Tamashii Aura Effect with Goku that you can put behind him. Like the normal ones, just sculpted and painted to be more like the UI aura.
Or do these sort of painted acrylic pieces that they had at SDCC, just in the right shape with the correct texture.
It's not perfect, but it does add something, and it beats him coming with just a few hands and faces.

Idk? Maybe slightly different? I think the other proto was a copy of SSG sculpt. This looks like maybe there are a few extra spikes on the side and the angles might be a little different? I'm really not sure.
