If I recall they were once warrior kings who caused a massive war and were banished to the pit, where the waters mutated them into the forms we know now so they can't escape. So yeah, they were.

Yep, that was the story, though I'm pretty sure it was Teridax himself who banished them. Anyways, the Barraki are some of the coolest Bonkles IMO.

Teridax was the one who stopped their attempts at conquest, but he wanted to just outright execute them. It was the Order of Mata Nui that overruled him and sent them to the Pit.

Hilariously, it was the Barraki's war that was what convinced Teridax to start his whole scheme of world domination
