This, pretty much. The only issue is that Hasbro Beyblades aren't compatible with Japanese ones. But if he's the kind of kid to be watching youtube, he likely already knows that.

Actually, the later Turbo drivers seem to be compatible with the original ones.

The Takara beys are better. They have metal. Hasbro will not use metal on their burst beys. Another thing to mention would be the drivers are different, look at the Slingshot garage hasbro pumped out.

How so? I was really into the toys (but not the anime) with my brothers a long time ago when the outer most rings were metal and they were much smaller overall than they are now

back in ye olde days customizing parts is mostly for fun and the performance doesn't change much, but now your customization actually affects your beyblade's performance significantly

Beyblade was always about customization. Very few Beyblades out of box are good. Back in the days of the first series, Plastics, there was even a heavier focus on customization since you could take apart spin gears. People were doing stuff like tuning tips that used ball bearings for optimal performance and American player were importing Japanese parts and even some Japanese players imported the Hasbro version of Bearing Stinger because it was better than Takara's.

When people figured out that the Hasbro version of the Burst Beyblades weren't compatible with the Takara ones, I kinda fell out of Beyblade other than a small handful of Hasbro ones, and I used to have a big collection of MFB with a Japanese stadium even.

I didnt want to rely 100% on import nippon beradu so I grabbed what hasbro I could find.. now I'm kinda regretting it with the cool layer chips and weights takara put out
