About LEGO Minifigs trademark..

What's the true state of it?
I don't buy LEGO clones because I know that the Minifigs are trademarked in Europe, so I don't want to support some companies, even if they got really cool sets, if they use Minifigs...

What's the state of it in the Americas? Is it protected by trademark or not?

The Minifigs were considered Trademarks, LEGO battled in Europe, I don't remember against who.

The system itself is public, because it was based on the Hilary Park Toys design.

I meant, Hilary Page.

Also, I do think that Hilary Page planned a lot of things for these blocks, because it's so well designed. LEGO difference was that they used the tube system, that made the pieces more lockable.

But Hilary Page nailed all the math of it. The plates and tubes were probably just side-effects of the original well designed block.
