>>7812322I'm 28 so growing up my favorite toys were like Beast Wars, Power Rangers (especially Megazords), Toy Biz Spiderman and X-men, Gundam MSIA, DBZ figures, etc., and when I was really young my dad used to travel to Asia constantly for work--Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, etc., not Japan but nearby places that tend to get a lot of Japanese kids media and toys--so he would bring back Kamen Rider and Ultraman sofubi and I loved those despite never seeing the shows. Black RX was one of my favorites so I was very excited when Masked Rider came out lol
As a teenager I wasn't really getting tons of toys but that's when Toy Biz MLs were coming out and I would still occasionally buy those
What got me fully back into collecting though was (kind of) finding /toy/. When I was about 18 I started frequenting /m/ and I saw a picture of Faiz and immediately recognized it like "that's definitely a Kamen Rider holy shit do they still make those?" and then I think I found my way to /toy/ in the process of looking in to Kamen Rider stuff.
And on /toy/ I discovered Transformers Animated which was the first toys I like actively collected as an adult with my own money.
And then at some point a few months after that I was staying at my grandpa's house and went for a walk around his neighborhood and stumbled on an import toy store.
This was right as Revoltechs and SICs were starting to come out and both kind of blew my mind, so I bought a couple of each but restrained myself cause I could tell the prices at that store were inflated as fuck lol, but they got me hooked and that's when I started being a person who has fucking AmiAmi orders every month, etc. and I was pretty much fully assimilated into the collector hivemind
The first toy I bought as an adult was TFA voyager Bulkhead and the first import toy was Revoltech 001 Getter 1.
