It's all a matter of perspective, anon. for a Minifigure, that's a rocky cliff face about six stories tall.
I met a guy once at a LEGO Store, looking for parts in the Pick-A-Brick wall for his own Lego city. By the way he described his ever-expanding microcity, the tallest skyscraper must not have been taller than two, maybe three, Minifigures.
To an inhabitant of such a city, your "not very big mountain" is a veritable Everest.

Fair point, I was mostly being self-deprecating. Micro scale also makes the trees veritable redwoods, which is cool. As for minifig scale, I don't consider 6 stories to be very big. I used to free climb an 8 story every so often.

Another version of my spooky castle room. I left a 4x4 hole in the middle to easily change the scene.
Originally I also had a captured soldier kneeling before Basil, to give it a bit of a story rather than just a few figs on a base, but it didn't look right with the small dimensions of the base.

What's a good way to organize my parts?
Throughout my life I've gathered thousands of disparate pieces which ive just randomly tossed in different random tins. What kind of containers do you guys use? And how do you organize the shapes/sizes?

Organize by piece/type. At the moment I organize them into plastic bags, but that's only temporary until I find some good organizer bins with lots of drawers. Best to find what method works best for you.

I actually have an advice for you. Don't buy a single complete set, buy every piece individually. There's 16 racers, and every racer consists of just 4 parts. People may ask couple dollars/euros for a racer, but that's ridiculous considering individual parts can be found for a few cents each.
These fuckers didn't come with instructions, and if you're like me and you're not gonna bother with having more than 1 or 2 of those plastic launchers. There's couple variations of "posters" that were included in each set, one of those is enough too. The sets themselves, some wave 2 parts may be harder to find, especially a "special" glow-in-dark racer called Ghost.
I lucked out and found a bunch of these from a flea market including the hard-to-find one I mentioned, that was like 5 euros. Then I made the stupid mistake of buying couple complete sets for 2-3€ each, then I realized that I should be buying the individual parts for that 0.05€ per piece. So this was like 12-13€ in total?
I really enjoy these little dumb things, they're wacky, colorful and nostalgic, and also an intersting chapter in Lego's history. Solid examples of how lost the company was by the turn of millennium. I have no counterargument against anyone who says they detes these, except if someone tried to make a point by posting a just2good video. With all their flaws and grand total of 4 pieces each they're my guys.

They could've packed 3 pieces of Rocket Racer's car with each Xalax Racer, with the rest going to the big set with Freeze and Chill, and I think that would've made them more interesting.

I remember being let down when i got one for my birthday and not really getting their weird design and very specific non mocable bases.
Then i got a few others to complement them and people came over on my birthday.

After the movie my friends and even my older brother kept playing with them for hours. We each had our own. (my brother had the red orange one, or dark red and blue one. I loved Shredd the blue and darkgray one)
We used our og town baseplates and old wooden buildingblocks of our parents to create ramps and even loopings.

I fully agree they aren't a great building set.
But they were charming little toys that had some character.

Xalax are pretty fun sets. Not the nicest and best parts, but they have far more personality in just the little figures and their cars than some of Lego's other themes. Obviously not the greatest, but I've got a soft spot for the little guys.

I prefer the classic look with asymmetrical arm colors, giving him a predominantly blue design doesn't do it for me

Yes, it came in a Friends set.
It also came in bright light orange, so if you look for pieces of that colour in bricklink and go to the minidoll hair tab you'll find it.

Looks more like a proper minifig scale. SpeedChampions are massive for sports cars they are trying to resemble.

It definitely has a curvy shape and I like the slightly more detailed cockpit, but man do those rear tires really stick out and make the front look small. It's not a bad thing at all, but it definitely plays tricks on my eyes.

Also, It's late where I'm at so maybe my eyes are just perceiving it differently through the pictures rather than if it were right in front of me. A+ effort though.

Thanks. It started out as a F-Zero ship and then just sort of grew wheels. Also, I had been really into playing a game called "Horizon Chase: Turbo" and one of the last unlockable cars in that game was a bootleg Batmobile that had an Blue Falcon color scheme so... Yeah.

None. We were a regular "not poor, not wealthy" family and while I did have a nice tubful of Lego as a kid, there also was an unspoken rule that I shouldn't even be asking for a 500+ part set. I remember asking my parents in 2002 if I could buy Cahdok & Gahdok with my own money, but they felt it wasn't wise to spend that much, and told me not to.
My biggest sets part-wise were Willa's Magic Manor and Twisted Time Train which are both ~350 part sets. I also had some OG Harry Potter sets, like the Forbidden Corridor, but none of the biggest ones.
You can guess what this led to as an adult with money.

Not sure if they can be considered big, but the biggest I ever got as a kid were the Exo-Force mobile defense tank and Bionicle Toa Lhikan and Kikanalo. Other than that we were pretty poor, so mostly just small sets. It's also why I remember stuff like Tiny Turbos so fondly, they were small and very cheap but I still had so much fun with them.
Not having big sets is also part of the reason why I like klocki so much now as an adult. My inner child is compensating for the times all I could do was look at the big sets in the catalogs.

Thjese are comfy too but CGI is more and more visible, for example one diver 'floating' above that black octopus. And now take a look at this scene. So much going on, yet it's so organic. Crate taken off the jeep shows possibility of LEGO assembly yet in a very natural way. Plane and background is probably CGI but note red snake and the shadow it creates.

I'm not sure what you had in mind when you posted, but it brings to completely different opinions to my mind. The first is that I'm not very happy about Lego using 3d printed parts in very limited run sets. They have the ability to use standard parts if they wanted and it only makes this super obscure drafting table set with the 3d print more rare because they got lazy. Heck, the instructions even have the standard Lego element options because they knew the 3d printed part would break or not be obtainable for regular Joes.

The second part is that I think Lego should leave 3d printing enthusiasts alone. Apparently they had a rash of take down notices on file hosting sites. They shouldn't be worried about people making blocks that fit with theirs if the dollar store is full of blocks that fit with Lego.

When I was designing my Porsche 930 in LDD, I pretty autistically adhered to making it as close to "real", human scale as possible. That's my main gripe with Speed Champions.

The Speed Champion cars have beltlines that are damn near as tall as a minifigure, and at six wide they're already almost too fat. Going to 8 (and presumably getting taller, too) is just ridiculous.

6 wide is good. The only real issue is roofline. Of course 4-wide windshield makes sense in a Porsche (love this one, I think i will remake it with my own bricks) or something but it doen't look good in more blocky cars. But at the same time full 6-wide wndows are too wide too. The best would be something like 6-wide car with 5-wide windows and roof. Too bad LEGO never made 5-wide windows.

Yeah, the whole "four wide windshield sitting on a six wide body" juxtaposition can definitely be constraining. I haven't been bold enough to try a six wide windshield on a seven wide body, because the SNOT/half stud math gets pretty complex at 7 wide, and oftentimes involves ruining the car's durability/interior space.

Realistically, 7-wide cars are the province of better builders than myself.

You're right that minifigs are super wide. I tend to just deal with that by only making my vehicles seat one person, rather than try to jam in two people side by side. I'm a lot more concerned with making vehicles proportional to minifigs in the vertical dimension.

Being low to the ground is the key to maintaining a sports car aesthetic. You can show a child any form of sports car, whether it be Le Mans Prototype or F1 or a Ferrari or a Porsche, and they'll all recognize them to be "race cars" because they're low. Speed Champions makes cars that are 10/11 plates high at the belt, which on IRL terms would make them look like a fucking lifted pickup truck.

This. Thats why I hate them. They are bulky and massive. Nowhere near sleek and flat supercars. For me supercar can not be higher than a standing minifig. I don't care if its 6 or 8 wide, Aventador for example is a very wide car.

8 bucks for the light up brick, GITD tail pieces, extra Brutaka and Axonn masks and a bunch of minifigures and weapons isn't the worst deal.
Definitely not an inspired build there, but young me probably didn't care. I mean, I was excited about the fucking 2005 Bionicle playsets and got all of them except for the biggest one, and those were just as bad. Was evidently not a kid with much discerning taste

Lego actually had a fucked batch of lime in 07, that had too many air bubbles in it. As a Bonklefan, it was fucking great to have 3 different sets in 07 that had those joints in lime. In 08, they redesigned the joint so that when it inevitably breaks, it won't become completely useless.

While Bionicle playsets most definitely weren't as good as they could've been, I think 2005 had pretty good castles. The toa tower and the Metru nui gate set are actually quite great for "army battle" type play scenarios. The minifigs were patchetic, but then again you were meant to just blast them with catapults and traps en-masse. You've got mechanisms and shooty parts, they almost feel like those (nonlego) castle playsets from the 90s.

Dino Attack was such an anomaly of a theme. Short-lived, minimal sets, absurd design decisions, but it made for an ultimately cool theme - but no one seems to acknowledge it existed.
To be honest I feel like a lot of themes in that 2004-2007 timeline had some weird stuff going on. Alpha Team's return and Vikings, for example. They're beloved by few, and rarely mentioned or seen anywhere.

What the fuck was with the Alpha Team third wave? Completely different logos, overhauls for most characters, some characters missing, and the story didn't even finish. The last bit of info they released was Ogel winning and freezing time itself.

Vikings has some fans but trying to buy any sets is an absolute pain, scalpers fucked everyone over. I'd like to buy some but when I'm getting a handful of pieces and a figure for $25+ it just isn't worthwhile.

I should make a new one because I've changed a few steps but basically you do the following:

1. Get a click eraser like pic related (which is what I use)

2. Get some Scotch-brand transparent (not frosted) tape

Tear off a piece of tape about two inches long and touch the tape several times with your bare fingertips until it's lost a lot of stickiness (this is a fine line between "not sticky enough to hold to the piece when you bump it with the eraser" and "too sticky so it pulls off bits of the printing when you remove the tape")

4. Fold both tips of the tape over so you will have some tabs to grab onto when you pull it off

5. Place sections of tape over the areas that you want to preserve and leave the parts that you want to remove uncovered

I had bad luck with other types of erasers in the past so I didn't want to recommend them, but then I got the Pentel ZE22 >>7822921
and it's amazing. I highly recommend this specific eraser. I use them all the time now for removing printing and general scuffing from pieces.

In other news, I got a couple of CMFs with printing defects so I called Lego last week to complain. In the past they've asked for the code on the bag to track the factory, but this time they just checked my address and sent out replacement bags.

Looks like I got a couple of Baboonian spacemercs. Printing on the anime monkey is pretty good. Blacktron torso has some unsightly black bleeding along the left edges of the yellow areas. Printing on the wanted poster is inconsistent and way too light. It's weird how so many of my 80s torsos still have great, solid printing but pieces fresh out of the bag have printing that rubs off to the touch even though TLG is one of the most profitable companies on the planet at the moment.

Thanks a ton LQ. I still use brasso to remove details on minifig heads, but on torsos (especially black torsos) it always leaves bad scuff marks. I'll give those Pentel brand pens a shot!

One because it's both very nostalgic for current young adults and a genuinely good movie.
Part 3 is a kids movie basically written for the adults growing out of toys and fucking heartwrenching.
Especially for /toy/fags who still see a lot of value and get enjoyment out of their favourite toys.

Different anon here. I saw and liked the first movie (1995) when I was a child. And the 3rd one is actually a great film (for adults too). Not to mention the whole "toys come to life" theme is pretty fun. It also fits Lego perfectly.

Seriously though I hope Dreamworks fronted the money for these sets and eats it when they tank. I hate to think how much worse things could get if this carves a chunk out of LEGO's funds.
