I'm not sure what other options would look good is the only problem. Perhaps one of those g2 claw pieces attached via clip?

mostly my problen with the stud is that between the blended red on the upper jaw and the larger eye-holes on the bottom, it just kind of gets lost easily. Honestly, making it another color might work best.

He's right about the ccbs bone system being pretty much just zoobs. But ccbs is not just bones. It by far outshines bionicle when it'complimented with technic and system, the latter being something that barely works with original bionicle since it clashes with the added texture of the pieces.

CCBS pieces, the part that actually make up the CCBS 'system', are pretty useless in terms of complimenting anything though, Its very hard to do any sort of legal connection with shells that isnt just the boring default intended way (putting to shells close to each other in general is an impossible feat), and the CCBS system is bones, shells, and specialized clip on decorations that are also fairly useless for anything (I guess you can stick them on headlight SNOT pieces but its hardly useful).

Normies wont know what bionicle is and if they do won't recognize ANY of the imagery presented in this set, systems fans wouldn't want it, the only audience is the small number of bionicle fans who also buy system sets which is a pretty small niche. Most ideas sets are either popular licenseshit or something with very targeted classic AFOL appeal. I see people trying to hold this up as something that's supposed to convince Lego there's still interest in the IP, but we already were given that chance 4 years ago.

Honestly, this. Systemfags and average buyers being unfamiliar with the subject material is one thing, but I think none of the depicted scenes really stand out and have enough "visual flair" either. I can imagine non-fans picking up such a set if it at least looked cool or imposing aesthetically, but these scenes don't really cut it -- though I give props for the brickbuilt masks in the Matoro section, I think they're a neat idea to liven up the scenery. But overall, the model is just a jumble of out-of-context imagery that only means anything to hardcore fans, full of nondescript grey blocks and generic robots most people wouldn't recognize as Bionicle.
Even as a fan who loves the MNOG beach scenery, I don't think the model makes good use of its space. The grey blob mountain takes up way too much room, the beach is too small in comparison, the charred forest could be more prominent to add variety, and a considerable section of the diorama behind the telescope is left completely empty, wasting space.

1.) Why has everyone forgotten that Lego Ideas sets change a lot before they're actually released? The lego design team will look it over, alter things, fix constructions, even remove whole ideas and add new ones. It's not going to be released as-is, and no Ideas sets ever are.

I like its backgroundstory, like they were once peaceful but then became warlords, their obvious reptilian image, but yet they differ so much from each other.
They are great for MOCing, leave alot to your imagination and are represented by 4 amazing characters.

The Bionicle System sets were the fucking worst, they were just generic gimmick fortresses that never even appeared in the story, let alone RESEMBLE Bionicle's actual settings in the slightest. Hell I'd argue that those sets were what made so many Bionicle fans have this much of a distaste for the mere idea of System.

The Skakdi are a big standout just for their personalities. The Piraka were super popular and they were honestly one of the only reasons the Ignition Trilogy kicked off so well, and the added lore for the race, if sparse, helps them feel unique and fun. If we get another reboot down the line, I really hope the Skakdi appear again.

Also, only real complaint with them is that their "two skakdi have to use their elemental powers together" thing is kind of dumb. I wish it were a different specific ability instead. Maybe something that counters Toa, especially with the Nuva jobbing to them for the Inika to be propped up.

this is true for me, I had a couple 05/06 system sets and I really disliked them. I only ever had maybe 3 dozen system sets total in my life, whereas I got like half of the sets from most years of bionicle.

G2 was fucking deadly. The guurahk staff piece was also available in the Kopaka set and I recall seeing some G1 piece in a somewhat recent set (by somewhat recent I mean it could be a 2017 set or something)
Also, Inika armor was used in early HF sets.
I think why they only brought back Vorox armor has to do with the fact that it is less "restrictive" and allowed to do shit like Lewa's legs or the shoulderpads.

The problem with CCBS isn't that it's not bonkle, it's that it's an overly limited system that starts big and in order to achieve any level of complexity needs to become far larger than can be actually sold as a set, there aren't any interesting legal building techniques for it and you just can't do much with it in general because the shells are so awkwardly sized.
I'm sure someone will tell me it's an amazing system that blends texhnic and system perfectly and then post a MOC that contains two CCBS pieces total to prove their point.
If a system needs to rely on things outside it's system in order to function, the system itself isn't very good. Bionicle meanwhile was just some decorative technic pieces, only losing the technic branding in 2002 because the autistic AFOLs who buy technic despised seeing bionicle given that holy label instead of another generic truck or something.

Well there's very different reasons behind both, but I agree that /biog/ is too autistic. I want my technic action figures too, but it's as if anything other than that is an affront to god. Playsets could be a great compliment to the figures, giving us actual scenes to play with (if only they were actually competently made... There is potential if people gave a serious crack at it), and CCBS did introduce some good parts, but I wouldn't say it's a great system all by itself - basically what >>7821074 said.
tl;dr, people need to be more open-minded and Lego needs to make more Technic-compatible parts.
Personally I also wish they'd make the figures much smaller; CCBS is fucking gargantuan, while I believe the Toa Mata/Nuva were perfectly sized. I'd even argue the Inika were pretty big. That's also why I'm pushing for a Mixels-sized Constraction system compatible with Technic, since Mixels is already easily compatible with System and it could allow for cheaper and funner builds, with the same aesthetic and building style that people like - just smaller.

I think it's pretty high honestly. Not only is it proven that more than one Ideas project can be chosen at a time, but mutiple LEGO designers have been extremely vocal about wanting to work on this project, and one outright said he'd do everything in his power to advocate for it once it reaches 10,000. If they succeed, then yeah, I'm pretty optimistic.

Admittedly the Hagah had masks carved into the shapes of past heroes, so they could look like anything. Plus they guarded Makuta, so I'd imagine the Kraahkan's semblance is on the table.

Also, could Iruini's mask of teleportation actually have been in the shape of the mask of stealth? His set was originally supposed to be Nidhiki's toa appearance (who wore a mask of stealth), and you can clearly see Nidhiki's Vahki-like protrusions in the the mask. Nuparu mahri has one but it's pit mutated; the normal appearance might be different.

It's worse than that. So much of the construction makes no fucking sense. You end up with one model that is worse than either of its components by far.
And yeah UD looks kinda lame, but I appreciate the creativity. A lot of combiners (like Takutanuva) just take elements from the individual components and mush them together, but Ultimate Dume is practically something wholly different than the sum of its parts.

I think Ultimate Dume would look better with a unified color scheme. It would still look weird with the oversized mouth, but it would look a tad better. I personally cant stand that there isnt really a proper “final boss” set of the Metru 04 storyline.

Sad, but understandable. would've personally gladly swapped out the Tahu minifig for Makuta though, especially since we already have a Tahu microfig and with now 3 possible Mata Nui representations (minifig, prototype, and green GSR), I'd want at least one more of Makuta. Apparently Nick Vas really wants to include Takua somehow into the build though, not sure if that means as a minifig or otherwise, but hey it's something.
Anyway tl;dr I would've preferred there was a separate minifig stand for more than 3, instead of being limited to 3 that attach to the sides of the diorama, but still think these are neat af.

Looking back, it's not that there wasn't room for a final boss in most of those years, but most of the sets didn't actually matter to the plot, especially after 2003. See all those Vahki and Visorak types, and those store exclusives, which at one point couldn't fit into the story and had to be the sent to the Serial Realm. But those did steal room for more relevant characters to get sets.

Started making color-swapped Ekimu as a sorta-Toa Makuta. Wouldn't have even started had I known how expensive the purple bones are but oh well. At least I have everything except the shin bones and leg shells coming in mail already.

I rewatched Mask of Light this week and while I don't hate these design, I feel like they miss the mark and with very little adjustement could have looked great (well great to me at least). Their arms are way too long, especially Tahu's. The colour scheme aren't respect, Tahu shouldn't be all red, he need the orange and apart from Gali every Toa has pretty much the same silouhette. On that front I feel like the 03 game did a better job. I really like their take on the Turagas tho, the sets are kinda rubbish to be honest.

I don't have much problem with the Miramax design in MoL and WoS tho, they look great.

I rewatched Legends of Metru-Nui and Web of Shadows, they were getting better films after films, the Hordika are top notch. They look weird as fuck but that's on the toys, the movie design are a good translation. The animation was getting better too and I think the quality of the storytelling was also getting better. Web of Shadows is kinda rushed since it's not even 80 minutes long but it's a lot more focused and a bit more character driven than the last two. I think.

It makes sense to argue that the Makuta weren't meant to be so powerful, and that their evolution into energy encased in armor made their power skyrocket.
On the other hand, however, word of Greg says that 1. the absurd number of powers they have is meant to be used as a defense against the Rahi they create (sounds bs to me, but hey) and 2. they were supposed to evolve into energy ever since their very creation, as backup for the GSR.
So yeah, it's a nice headcanon I share, but officially they were meant to be retardly powerful all along.

Like >>7825653 said, the more obvious color difference was a big factor in what made the weapon so unique. Consider the color blocking arrangement, and what it implies. Presently, the majority of the club is black, and the sawblade is gunmetal. A subtle difference in color, but enough to be rather easily differentiated in most conditions. The blunt area and the handle is blocked in black, while the sawblade alone is blocked in gunmetal. The sawblade is saying "Danger- moving parts!" As well as "Sharp!" In contrast with the rest of the weapon, with the added subtle implication of barbarism lended to it by the sawblade's unorthodox serration.
The previous iteration, however, had the sawblade (as well as some bohrok eyes in the same center area) blocked in trans-light blue. Translucent colors have a long history in Bionicle as representing objects or beings 'charged with energy,' and so, the inclusion of translucent elements introduced another layer of character and complexity to the weapon. The presence of the trans-light blue bohrok eyes in the middle area of the weapon gave it a look as if it was 'filled' with said energy, and it even almost appeared as if it is trying to escape. I also noticed that the pommel of the weapon was changed to a male hinge element, like the red and black polearm weapon had, as opposed to the 'catch' element with a 2 length axle halfway through it that the previous iteration had. If the two weapons are placed next to each other now, that will be one less thing to differentiate them from each other. The previous pommel was also obviously larger and simultaneously had a makeshift look to it, with the exposed quarter axle on either side, which also helped to give it a patently "Skakdi-Made" look.
Either way, it still looks totally badass.

Nobody asked, so I'm going to post my top whatever Skakdi mocs, in no particular order.
Here's number one:
"Hakann - The Explosive" by Poor Disadvantaged, one of my favorite Bionicle moc makers on flickr. All of his set revamps are beyond superb, but this one, being a Skakdi, is a particular favorite of mine. Everything about this moc is dialed up to eleven, and it means there's a whole lot more red and gunmetal edgy goodness to love. Second up is Troddon, the Poor and Disadvantaged, which, if you couldn't already tell by the name, is the self-moc of Poor Disadvantaged. As far as self-mocs go, this is probably the cream of the crop. What's not to love? There's so much character packed into this guy, I hardly know where to start. The goofy smile, asymmetric eyes, oversized shackles, huge ball on chain (made from Toa Metru Canister lids!), and fantastic color scheme and blocking. The color scheme, by the way, is Black, Dark Green, and Metallic Blue (sans manacles, ball and chain). Not something you see everyday by any means, but by Mata Nui is it done excellently on Troddon! Now that I'm done gushing over Poor Disadvantaged, here's something from Finland's Eero Okkonen. This is Guardian (2015), a revamp of a revamp... of an older moc... of a character from the Finnish Klaanon... uh, whatever it was. It's been a while since I last checked out Okkonen's flickr, but it seems that as of late he's mostly been making constraction-sized figures out of mostly system, but I'll be damned if they aren't all excellent! That is true, the sturdiness of that whole head arrangement is rather dubious. But if that's bothering you, you may want to avert your eyes for the next Skakdi I'm going to post.

What's this? CCBS? A Lego Digital Designer moc, using dozens of pieces in colors they don't exist in, no less? And... and... SYSTEM? And all by a creator with leftward inclinations? (Well, I suppose that explains the rest of it, at least.) An unholy combination that's surely an affront to every God that has ever had a modicum of influence on the Human Race.
And yet... it makes the little AFOL inside me all tingly. For me, this moc is nothing short of being my guilty pleasure. By the way, this is Crate, by Artemiy Karpinskiy (aka TheMugbearer). A digital moc of an OC of Rube's (formerly Just a Drawing Cat) from a RP that the two and a few others participate in.
Just look the moc. Look at that hand. Look at the mouth. Look at the picture, anon. Look at it. My mind becomes a slurry and my jaw hangs agape when I look at this moc (and quite a few others of his), and I'm left with a two lingering thoughts: "Woah," and "How he do that?"

I like the design of the original character and Rube's art in general a lot. But that looks like shit and the amount of pieces used that don't actually exist feels just lazy.

For this one, the parts I really like are that- parts. The little details, rather than the whole big picture. I mostly think about how good those parts would look on another moc (ideally one of my own)

I think it's best that the moc is in a picture and not out here with us, because if it was, the torso above the waist would flop forward or back, the ankles would collapse, the legs would detach, and the whole axe head construction would practically disintegrate. It would look like a sad parody of the opening scene of Tale of the Toa.
