I taught myself a new method for simulating underwater shots a couple weeks ago. I built a canopy/ceiling with a lot of small holes, and then aimed a small UV flashlight down from above at an angle to simulate light refracting underwater. Worked pretty good.

I don’t have any holiday pics, but do have a question. Some insta guys throw dirt at their figures, then take the pic at something like 1/1000 shutter speed. I tried doing that, but the pic comes too dark. I upped the ISO to 3200, but the pic is still too dark. Any solutions for this? It’s my first time using a camera, a nikon D3200.

Pic not related, but it’s the first pic I’ve taken with this camera.

Tried using smartphone today.
Gotta say it's much harder to get focus than on DSLR, not to mention phone's flash sucks ass and I got to get all light sources in he house in one place, and it still doesn't look all that good.

You can literally use whatever you want, but if a diorama isn't an option (for cost or space or whatever reason) some of us have used giant pieces of poster board just slight bent at an angle to simulate an infinite plane (plain? ESL here). We had a few anons who used all-white to that degree and it's worked for their type of content

A little bit of dollhouse decor, fishtank accessories and everything in my apartment that i walk by and think could make a good backdrop if used correctly.

It also helps to just have a few sticks and stones at home.

try to match the lighting of your background if you can, and avoid screen glare. The main goal is to make the figure look like it's standing in the environment of the background, rather than standing in front of a screen.

It also helps to match the angle of the image youre using as the backdrop. I'd also suggest to put some physical accessories in front of the screen anyways to create depth.

Pic related is my take on it, i'm not too sure about it though..

It's impossible to buy working camera for 150 bux where I live, no matter how used.
And if I order online shipping costs will add up to the same retarded price I need to pay here.
On the flip side shooting with smart phone is a nightmare, it's much harder and more annoying than with camera.
So I'm still thinking which way to go.

I wasn't talking about pictures, but about the process.
With camera I never have any issues with focus, or horizon, or stability when holding it in the air.
With phone I need to do like 10 takes before I get everything right.

You absolutely do not need an expensive camera, though. Canon AS590is or Sony DSC W100 are both VERY cheap cameras, combined with a tripod you'll take substantially better photos if you just learn how to manipulate their focus and macro functions where appropriate.

Yes, I have no idea what I'm doing.
Sometimes I have this great image in my head, but then I can't figure it out how to make it real, even if I have all the tools, and the end result comes out bland and boring.
