Lack of a individual secondary color (not even the same one since they jump from dark bley to silver) seriously brings them down, as elegant as dark blue + silver looks. That and aside from Lewa and Onua they don't even have real weapons. If those two things had been fixed, I think they would've been pretty good. Not perfect, but at least decent. As they are they're far below the Mahri and the Inika.

The Visorak are mostly just one shell piece ultimately, while I've just never been that big a fan of Chirox and Vamprah, despite growing up with 2007 Bionicle-onwards. They just always felt a bit long and spindly and lame. Antroz wasn't bad, but kinda standard still.

Ultimately yeah it's moreso the concept of robot drones that intrigues me more than anything, but i also really liked their weapons, their disk launching heads, and how they can flip around and crawl on all fours, along with them still having the gearbox. I've just always found them neat.

Honestly though I get the criticisms towards them, but they're still some of my favorite baddies from all of Bionicle. Lot of charm in their designs, and a lot of the love they got here helped influence that for me, too.
Helps that they're one of the only waves I ever completed, too.

I gave my Gali a mistika longsword because I didn't want her to be gun only.
I don't know why they didn't just stick a melee weapon piece in the box with her, even Kopaka had a bayonet even thought it's the size of warwick davis.

Some neat new parts but overall bad designs, with matching arms/legs, bad torso design on the mistika, and little tie in to the original characters, as well as practically no personal weaponry on Gali/Kopaka.

The first trio of Makuta were pretty aesthetic even if their orb gimmick sucked, and bitil was an all around good set if only for the well proportioned wings and weapons and mask. Krika just looked downright nonthreatening though.

Definitely less of it made with the early cancellation. I think it's worse in the case of the 2016 sets since the second wave didn't see widespread release, and then you have a lot of sets being sought after for Makuta and you get even greater scarcity.

Sure, but "gun on pin legs" didn't look fearsome compared to the other makuta. That and his small rear legs would limit the size of his steps realistically speaking. On top of that his head was rather rakshi-like.

The design made more sense on like, Vamprah, who had wings, or even on Radiak since his small size looked easier to support. Krika might have done better in an earlier line, I dunno.

If any of you guys live in or around Ohio, Caesar Creek flee market has a booth with a bunch of bionicle figures for sale. It looked like most of the old Toa, with some bohrok and rahkshi in the mix. Not sure if it's a bad price for them, but most of the figures were around $10 each (I think).

Definitely could have been better. Like others said, some of them should've had more unique weapons, although their blasters worked excellently. I'm personally not a fan of Gali or Tahu's mask. Also I wish Pohatu was brown, but that's just me, and he's still my favorite out of the toa. As for the Makuta, I like all of them. The Matoran were my least favorite matoran designs of all time, but at least I liked their masks. Also it's a well known fact that the sockets sucked once this wave was introduced due to budget cuts and were prone to cracking. I think the bionicle as a whole started to suffer due to budget constraints starting at this point. The story was good though.

I liked the phantoka/mistika as well as the inika.
The only thing that bothered me about the inika was the back of their heads, which looked fucking stupid. You could see the green-white face part and no filler, just a long stick as the neck. I used to put a wheel or whatever I could find to fill in the headspace.

The Nuva/03 era combiners in general were pretty bad, even the Kaita Kal. It felt like they didn't want to make 1:1 copies of the 02 Bohrok Kaita but they shat the bed in the attempt to be original.

Makuta Nui was underrated bonklekino though, and the Rahkshi Kaita at least were creative.

I built him once, but I have a really fond memory of him. I thought he'd look goofy, but he's anything but. He's pretty fucking big for 2003 standards, and quite creepy with those sharp teeth and beady eyes. I'd argue he was of the series's most menacing looking villains up until that point, along with the Bahrag.

He's obviously more bestial than Teridax's default form, but still looks like something he could turn into to fuck with the Toa or simply to go full melee combat. Notice how the lower section actually resembles the 03 Makuta set.

Pictures really don't do him justice. It's really one of those builds you need to have in hand and get a 3D view of to fully appreciate it.

I'm kind of bummed he got partly retconned into being the set form of an Ash Bear. I wish the Mask of Light arc hadn't been so infantilized by the movie, because maybe Greg would've found a way to slip Makuta Nui somewhere.

For me if they went full lego compatible route they'd have to match the colors too. The biggest problem I would have is that the axles and pins would probably not be up to quality and I would replace them. We do have some skilled resincrafters here but I don't think they could replicate those, and I don't know if you can just buy a bunch of axles and pins off BL and sell them with your custom parts or whatever.

I'd love cool creative bootlegs but achieving lego quality at even the part tolerance would be impossible for indie makers. It'd just be too expensive for anyone but a small company.

Yeah and most of them are shitty KOs made by faceless organizations. Some aren't even compatible with Lego because they use different measurements for the pinholes or the sockets, and that's not even considering the plastic quality. A good bootleg is a hard find. Kaita Ja Kal is pretty cool, albeit the function doesn't work very well. Kaita Za Kal is just lame and dumb though, it's the kind of thing a little kid would come up with on their own.

I still like the regular Bohrok Kaitas though. Considering what parts they had to work with they're pretty inventive, albeit just being big humanoids isn't that creative. I always found them more solid that people seem to give them credit for. My bohrok parts are all cracked and loose but last time I built them the spindly legs held up fine.

Agreed on the jumping part, but to me 2001 Onua was less so 'the heavy one,' but rather the type to be grounded, literally and figuratively. A jump he'd do would usually keep him close to the earth, so it'd be with more forward momentum. And speaking of which, the way everything above his waist just sort of pauses upon impact with the ground feels really unnatural and stilted- the inertia would cause his torso, arms, and claws to continue to go further down, with the lattermost probably reaching the ground, and symbolically re-connecting with his element.
I also agree about loving the animation and that it's a great job. Looking forward to more!

Thanks for the feedback guys, the animations are actually from Mixamo, I just kinda took the first one that wasn't a punch or a sword animation and went with that just to render something moving. But I definitely agree with everything you said.

Based. He's honestly one of my favorite bionicles.
While most bonicals give off a typical android/cyborg like vibe, keetongu feels like a piece of industrial machinery given life. Imagine a goddamn excavator that has a bone to pick with you. All of his movements and abilities (like opening up his chest to fire his spinner) make him feel like an immovable object, like every movement is driven by a hydraulic piston. Few of the other Rahi or toa give off the same Big Nigga aura that keetongu is capable of

Honestly you hit the nail on the head. Keetongu just has this immense, powerful aura that hasn't really been replicated. His head is just a red eye at the end of a long stalk, with a canopy draped over it - slapped onto this beefcake of a body. Not to mention the way he was portrayed in the movie; dude laughing at Matau and the Toa Metru wasting their time coming to find him, the way he just steadily scaled that tower nearly effortlessly without a care in the world, and the fact he's one of the few non-antagonistic characters who actually straight up murdered his opponent, with a goddamn HulkSmash no less. As a character and a character design, he is absolutely wonderful.

Saying that the Inika "solidified" that seems pretty arbitrary when it'd been going on since the Vahki. What, did the three waves since then not count? The pattern is only confirmed on the fourth?
