To be fair, that one already has its issues of standing upright without kneejoints.
They really need to create a smaller version of that Technic ratchet joint they used for the forward swivel of the hips.

other than yoda, bb8, port and artoo, are there any other LEGO sets that are more statue/sculpture like? preferably affordable, so the darth maul bust is completely out of the question.

doesn't have to be star wars related either.

Just off the top of my head, but maybe something like a T-rex skull or something could be done. That fossil set and the Jurassic Park collectors set make me think it's not too much of a stretch to do.

I never watched Star Wars and I don't collect Marvel shit.
I don't collect anything anyway. Last set I bought was the big ninjago ship because it was like 100euro.
I just like to see each year what I can't have, and this year there isn't anything of interest to me aside from that giant technic set and maybe that train.
So, I wanted to ask the experts of 4chan if by chance this is a bad year in general.

Lego seems to put a lot more parts into detailing these days, so even though the price to part is roughly the same as 10 years ago, the space those parts takes up is less so it still feels like you're getting ripped off

While there were a bunch of highlights here and there a lot of the stuff felt pretty forgettable.

The space subtheme was pretty cool but I guess a lot of people would've prefered an actual sci-fi Space theme.
>TLM2
Polarizing as hell. The sets were way too focused on the girls vs boys aspect and featured way too many Emmet, Lucy and Rex figs - something the first movie mostly avoided with all those "civilian" 2-in-1 sets.
It should tell you something when probably the most bought set was a 10$ figure pack based on two seconds of the movie.
>Marvel
The Endgame sets sucked major ass outside of maybe the hall of armors and WMB, the Cpt. Marvel set was forgettable and the Spider-Man waves were simply just there with the only real standout being the giant Venom.
>DC
I honestly had to look that one up since I completely forgot what they even released this year... uh, Batman this, Batman that, been there, done that. Worst was that there were rumors of a Shazam movie set which wasn't made and Shazam ended up in yet another Batman set, same with Ocean Master.
>Hidden Side
Pretty good but the AR-game, which a lot of people can't even access, is a waste of ressources that could've went into the sets and moulds instead - there is not a single new mould in the whole wave that isn't minifig-related.
>Overwatch
A blunder which couldn't decide who its target audience was, didn't really sell outside of the last two sets, featured some massive QC issues even outside of Le Mercy Face and was helmed by probably Lego's currently worst designer.

Rehashed legacy stuff with some questionable choices like the walker or dropship, subpar sets like the Starkiller battle, the Death Star laser, the shooting gallery sets, the Junior ones, etc. and the obligatory sequel and Resistance shelfwarmers.

Legacy sets and predictable "car, bike, robot, jet, temple" sets that by now feel like someone is throwing dice or darts to come up with the line up for each wave.

High tier as usual. The McLaren Senna was an absolute masterpiece, the Creator shark amazing value for its price and tons of Friends sets looked absolutely stunning like the restaurant and submarine/shipwreck.
>Ideas
Flintstones was a shitshow and had none of the cute details of the original submission, Cleveland Steamer Willie felt like Lego was already working on their own version since it looks nothing like the submission, The treehouse is pretty great, the Friends set many years too late and the fossils pretty controversial.

Exists, I guess.
Harry Potter wasn't anything to write home about outside of the Patronus fig, Minecraft was Minecraft and also featured some dumb bigfigs that apparently sold well enough to warrant a second wave and Toy Story for some reason only got Junior sets.

For me, this year was above average. Speaking only about the bigones: Apocalypseburg, Gingerbread house, Hidden side school, Ninjago castle and Ski resort are great sets to get. I don't remember previous year having anything as interesting besides the 80' Diner.

I just realized that you can't even put the Keaton Batman figure inside the minifigure scale batmobile because of the stupid cape mold. A new cowl mold with separate fabric cape would have been MUCH better

For me it wasn't. TLM2 had a few fun sets, Ninjago didn't bring anything really new to the table, Hidden Side is fine but of no interest to me and even Creator sets this year weren't good parts packs for me. My favourite theme was probably Overwatch, since it introduced a decent number of new pieces (love the gun) and the sets became quite cheap.
The two sets I really like this year are Apocalypseburg and the Tree House.

Just finished this last week - why is it that whenever I try to add secondary colors I find it less appealing and swap them out?

I tried red, dark grey. It doesn't work as well as the black/trans neon red combo does - at least in my opinion.

Any suggestions? Is it wrong to not have a secondary color?

Also regarding the question someone asked in the last thread - Rock Raiders was juniorized but I do appreciate the idea/concept - it was original and fun. I only had one small set for that theme but did play the heck out of the video game that they released.

There's nothing wrong with what you have there, anon. Personally, I've always been partial to the Blacktron I color scheme of black primary, yellow secondary, trans-yellow tertiary (canopies/windows), and trans-red accents (antennas, blasters, and engines). The only change I'd recommend (beyond the color conversion to Blacktron I colors) would be to lean into the round shaping given by the canopy by swapping out those roof tiles on the front with whichever of the parts in pic related you have and/or find appropriate to use. But don't forget that in the end, what matters is preference- your preference. Also, I love the shape given by the fins as wings, they look like cute little intakes. I like the exposed studs too, because even though they usually trigger my autism, here they give the Interceptor a distinctly 'classic' aesthetic.

The older volkswagen beetle collector model was basically sculpture.

Tthe newer big car models less so (not the brickish quality to them) but they do have a more 'sculptural' feel to them for being large detailed and not in minfig scale.
(Like the new big Beetle, Mini Cooper, Caterham and F40)

So folks at /lg/, I'm planning to shop for some new Lego sets for this Christmas and wanted some opinions on what to get.

So the weird thing about rotary engines is that they almost *never* have an even number of cylinders per bank due to cylinder timing mechanics (and in multi-bank setups it helps cooling to be able to offset the banks). I did come up with this, even if LDD doesn't like the cowling (should have absolutely no problems irl tho).

I’ve seen most of the 2020 first half sets. Everything is very small and disappointing, Hidden Side has no sets over $50. The biggest is a clown roller coaster with maybe 3-4 track pieces. It’s not good.

Did anyone have this as a kid? I'm a zoomer so I never had one but polynesian type boats are super interesting to me and I doubt LEGO would ever rerelease the islander theme because oogaboogs would cancel them on twitter.

I too am very partial to Blacktron I and its color scheme - I'm sitting on about 20+ BL1 MOCs that I haven't posted and once I get to it I hope you guys will enjoy it.

I felt those studs fit in well too, that's why I left them. Seemed appropriate.

I think that Deep Sea Creatures and Graveyard Mystery will be easy to get even next year. Most of the creator creatures like dinos or fantasy are still available.
I think that because Overwatch doesn't sell well (at least what I see here) and will either get removed from stock or put on sale and then dissapear. So if you want them probably get those.

So on the impulse buy front from this list I'm being told to get Graveyard Mistery and Deep Sea Creatures, both of which are quite nice sets to have.

Life On Mars had great set design tho. The only really juniorized part were the gates in sand-purple (like wtf Lego, stop making new colors for 3 or 4 parts). Nevertheless I’ve managed to incorporate those gates as propeller housings for a big airship moc. Well, I own Ninjago City and Destiny's Bounty, and I honestly would give away NC before DB. Honestly the best set of all time imo, but I understand how people could like NC more just for the sheer size, and I would rank that as number 2.
Top 3 sets of all time imo:

What is the reason you think Docks is so much worse than City? I think Docks measures up reasonably well, considering the lower piece count. It has a different layout and shape to it, but they fit very well together.

I liked those blindbags.
While I didn't get a lot I enjoyed their bright colours and new original characters in cute different outfits. They improved on the original in both printing as the sturdiness of the neck connection. Not sure if they were universally loved like that, but I think the Unikitty line had the potential to be a new Freestyle-ish kind of set theme. With focus on houses and simple builds. Kind of a blend of fabuland, friends and Creator. Sadly it didn't turn out that way.
Still this blindbag series was a solid one for what it was.

The only other building I own is the Monastery, and that one is just an enclosed wall (still very nice).
I don't know, Docks just doesn't do it for me, and the only reason I ever even thought of purchasing it was cause I own Ninjago City and it obviously goes well with it. I never bought it though and never will, cause I'm severely cutting back on buying lego.

I've noticed this DUPLO set in a shop's offer. It says it's a table (most likely not lego related), a baseplate, and a ZOO with 84 elements.
Can someone help me identify this thing? I've never seen it before. I'm buying something for my little son and this set caught my eye, but I think it might be some off-brand lego (though this shop has never done anything similar like that before).

lego frens please help, i have a few ides right now for a big build i want to do, but im not sure what to go for
1) a castle
2) a space base

So one night one kiddo was afraid of sleeping because he said there was a monster on the wardrove, none of his parents believed him, and what a mistake they made, it was an abomination that had escaped a secret lab 50km from the kid's house, now the last picture of that thing is of it fleeing the house of it's first victims putside the lab, leaving nothing but a bunch of bodyparts and the hint that the thing is afraid of cats

The only thing we know about the thing is that it's a symbiote-like flesh bag that consumes only some part of it's victim corpses, but we aren't sure as the cientifics team that created it are all part of the new red/fleshy decoration on the floor of the lab

Sand green doesn't look good with red hair imo. Ideally it would be something like that not-GITD shade of green that Lego uses for their ghost hair, but that might be a bit too light.

When I was a child, we used to have our own names for certain pieces. But obviously those just stayed between me, my brother and a couple of friends. And the overall amount of different pieces was lower too.

Honestly I have no idea where people get their current names for pieces. Not even the official Lego ones are very good, IMHO.

Great looking set, the plane is really neat. Wonder how El Feugo died. The splatter pieces look shit and the ghost figure is awful (though the black harness piece is interesting). Also:

Boring. Car itself is alright, but the fuel pump is lazy and the 2-headed ghost is shite. Nice welding mask piece though, it'd be nice to get it in city next year.

Excellent though I wish there was a bigger focus on small stalls that each have a mechanism. Would be better if there was a coconut toss that threw coconuts at you, a hook-a-duck with a monster lurking inside the tank, etc. Figures are great but splatter pieces are gay.

Seems like the transformation of the wagon is more complex than it seems.
The pipe on the side of the wall acts as a lever to rotate the upper part while the lower part simultaneously moves forwards on the tracks, giving it a biting function - NICE.
