To be fair, the alt mode probably will end up looking much better once the color test shots pop up. When it's just the gray proto shots, it tends to draw your eyes into all the transformation seams and hinges while the color shots tend to distract from them.

To some degree. The worst looking parts are the holes in the hood, the happy door panels, and the protruding hinges on the roof. Again I fully support their approach—it's like a Beast Wars MP where they got the bot mode perfect, then shamelessly cheated the transformation and offloaded any imperfections to the alt mode.

Yes. Official MPM ironhide is a disaster. Wait for the black apple upscale with all the new parts and integrated weapons. It will probably even be cheaper too.

Can anyone confirm if MPM Jazz was any good? I've heard reports of terrible tolerances.

For those who hadn't noticed and who'd care, the chest is fake. Completely fake. The wheel well chunks are nothing like they are in alt mode when in bot mode, and the hinges don't suggest the possibility at all of them reaching around and becoming the chest, and the bumper is the deadest giveaway as well as different shaping of the headlights.

If you care about transformation, this ain't the one to go for, but if you just want a robot mode display piece and for some reason aren't buying the 3A model, this is your best bet.

I don't understand why the KOs are always upscaled, but in this case it's to actually make them scale with the carbots. For whatever reason the MPM carbots are too large or the bigger MPM bots are too small.

You need to prove that a product is a 1:1 identical copy down to the millimeter when you're suing for something tangible (like a physical toy) and not protected by patents. Upscaling/downscaling a toy allows you to easily avoid this liability. Modifying parts work too but you need to modify every little part.

Toy companies don't bother suing for design theft because of this. If you look at all the successful KO-crackdowns recently, they all sue based on IP theft (names and trademarks)

That's where we disagree. I think a "cheating" transformation can be just as impressive as a "proper" one, especially if it increases accuracy. The Bumblebee design warps the shape of the hood + headlights in a way that wouldn't look quite right with real car parts.

The rest are just kind of taking up space. But it's not entirely wrong to get it either, especially at that sale price.

The benefit of the black one is that you're getting the articulated hands and the foldable bumper. As I pointed out in the last thread though, the articulated hands do have the downside that it makes PB unable to use the giant canon from Archenemy's trailer. The original hands had the weapon groove all the way down the palm, and the canon has to be held by sliding it up from the bottom. The articulated hands only have a groove that goes about half-way down or so, so you can't get it slid in. I don't see why they had to make that design choice; it doesn't seem like a full groove would have had any effect to the fingers.

And I'll always put it out there to simply be patient when going to combined mode. Getting the core bot to fold up into just the right way and shape to slot into the armor might pose a frustration, but it can be done.

And don't forget to pre-order Black God Armor.

IMO its worth it for archenemy, not so much for gunfighter. At that price its a $120 set,which is reasonable. $80 is too much, even 50 is, but again, I'm thinking of it as a set, in which case its acceptable. My main thing is, personally, I really disliked the standard Archenemy head and I wasn't happy with it until I got the replacement. Plus if you ever get a set of Commandos/Combatrons you can have them hang around the base(personally waiting for Zeta or Ocular Max to do a redeco of their Bruticus.

Brawl probably has more things holding his waist together in Vehicle/Leg mode being that he's bulkier.

Swindles already pretty lean, it's perfectly solid but they way he's designed basically the only thing really holding him together at the middle in any mode is the waist swivel, if there were an ab crunch too they'd have to fit in more parts to lock it in place so Bruticus' shin doesn't just fall in half.

Nah, I don't think newage ripped off Ironhide. I think he's straight working for them. Their cosmos is heavily based off his sd cosmos transformation, and that Megatron and starscream just have a certain feel to it that comes off as his design.

Since nobody answered your questions: There are a ton of KOs from MPM and studio series and the companies aren't really consistent. Sometimes they change names and are hard to track down probably to dodge the Hastak hammer. If anything, Ben is actually a pretty good repository for a decent portion of the KO stuff if you search his dedicated channel. He'll actually do comparisons with the other KOs which is handy when trying to figure out scale. For the most part, MPM KOs are superior compared to the real thing. You'll find additional parts, mold modifications, tolerance fixes, new accessories, tons of added paint, at a cheaper price. Some of the super oversized guys are more expensive though.

The KOs depend on what you are looking for. If have a particular mold in mind it can help narrow the field. For example, for MPM Bay Bee The Legendary Toys KOs is the one I think was best as it fixes some tolerance issues, adds more paint to bring out the detailing, and keeps it the same size.

Damn, looks like the Fans Project store is gone. I was considering Severo Core but the shipping killed the deal for me. I really wanted to support them again; I bought Constructo core last year and it got lost in the holiday hustle, and they shipped me a new one free, which was very stand up of them. Makes me miss the old days of 3P when it really felt like it was a small group of fans making cool designs and concepts without being beholden to a timeline or a strict design aesthetic beyond vaguely being Classics scale. No they're not. Those accessories were included in the original Duron Drill giftset as a bonus, and aren't explicitly based on anything.

TCP has Capone as "Arriving Soon" so I know that at least means at this point he's on the way. Gravestone is still listed as a December release, so it's well possible since they have a whole month to work with.

Half-related Incursus is slated somewhere in the December / January range, which hopefully keeps Volatus in the January / February spot. Probus is supposedly slated by the middle of 2020.

Liking how the set is shaping up so far. And I can agree in a wish for Fraudo to have an ab crunch, but he has this long sliding shaft going right through his top half, so I can see it just wouldn't have been a possibility. The only other thing so far I'd strike him on is his Short Thigh Syndrome, but he is also fighting against having half of a jeep as his lower legs.

From my experience with KO G1 toys, they're actually pretty good now. I got an entire batch of KO G1 dinobots and save for some minor looseness in simple joints they're pretty much great. Solid diecast and paint jobs. Just remember not to overpay.

Jiang Xiang's Metal Dragon is, by far, the best 3P figure I got this year, and a good contender for FOTY for me. Fellow July here, though I got him way back in that 9 months ago time. He was just very partially not fully assembled when I got him -- he was missing the clip portion at the base of the jet that allows it to connect together, or to wear as a shield. But FH got me sorted out with the pieces real quick, and it was quite simple getting them installed.

I wish that the Manus mold was more future proofed for the Skywing mold, but it's at least suitable (heh) enough.

Impetus is just impressive in his general simplicity, though having Spoiler on the shelf too makes one of them feel out of size.

I'd say that Double Evils best weapon is his simplicity. It feels like a lot of his engineering is behind the scenes and you don't really mess with it all that much. Which is nuts considering how big and articulated he is. Compare that to Roadking...

The CD line is still my favorite 3p line and I sincerely hope Maketoys can survive. Stealthwing and Manus are amazing figures on their own, combined mode is just ok though. It's fine to just pose and leave on the shelf.

Impetus is also a great figure and I've been kinda turned off by Fraudo cause it looks like he doesn't share the same ease of use.

By the time this is out Zeta will be halfway through Defensor. That means between themselves, their Toyworld molds, and all the companies doing Menasor all the major G1 gestalts will have been released by 3Ps in MP scale besides Abominus and Computron.

Depending how this thing is done, I seriously doubt Takara will make another MP Combiner. Raiden is just a bunch of blocks in comparison to things like Devy and Bruticus, much simpler to work with.
Like, Takara makes retarded compromises with their recent releases but I some reason doubt they will do the pants thing Toyworld has established.

I'm pretty sure that the pegs on Swingle and Brawl aren't actually what connects them to Onslaught.

If you take a good look at how Bruticus is posed in some of the images you can see that Onslaught's part of the knee connection kind of wraps around the top of Swindle and Brawl, and on Swindle there's some pretty big tabs all around where Onslaught hooks onto him that are definitely what's actually holding them together.

At the very least they're not the only thing holding the knees together. The folded up bumper connector is flimsy as fuck, only Takara would think that's enough to keep a combiner standing.

Most Geewunn bots are just "a bunch of blocks" and should have relatively simple Transformations. It's Takara's insistence that MP bots adhere to the physics-defying retardation of the cartoon that leads them to over-engineer their shit-heap figures so that we have blocks that transform into slightly different blocks with a huge backpack in 200 steps or less.

I've kind of fallen out of love with the FT stunticons, Roadking was fantastic as standalone and I still really like it but I can't say the same for Spoiler. I don't get why Spoiler is mostly made of diecast and there's a lot about his bot mode that I'm just not really feeling. If the rest are shaping up to be like this, I'm concerned about the combined form and how its going to deal with all that diecast and paint.

Nothing wrong with a more animation accurate Mirage. The MMC Mirage is good but the toy colour version is impossible to find and the toon colour version falls for that "unpainted details" crap like the MP+ reissues that look like they're unfinished. You really can't take a toy detailed molding and turn it into toon by just not painting it.

I'd say it's for weight in combined mode as well considering he's a leg, but the arm bots seem mostly diecast too so I'm not sure how they're really planning on distributing weight on Menasor when he's done. Wouldn't make sense having him be top heavy.

Unique Toys is significantly better apparently.
Honestly all three of their released Moviebots have been very well received, but I think its their Prime that's the weakest of the bunch.
Toyworld also has something cooked up too but it is going to take forever considering that they have 3000 repaints they need to get through first.

His transformation is more complex than Magic Square (though probably not as much as MP-44?), but it looks absolutely the cleanest in both modes. I personally just don't care for his hands.
