I lost my OG gen grievous fig from his ship set just a year after building it. Me and my sister thought he ran away, like in Toy Story. Got the Malevolence much later, and I tossed the new fig on a CMF stand next to his old ship. I was happy again

More than just aesthetics, i miss when lego was actually a 'system' clearly designed for replayability.
A base and vehicles like this could be thrown together really quick

This. Now LEGO is just toys you have to put together and never take apart. There are too many specialized bricks, back then the models were simpler, but it was also simpler to make other stuff out of them.

Wasn't it the Star Wars line that introduced pink skin? Licenses in general just detract from Lego's appealing style because they always want them to get less and less stylized

I agree, but only because they're too well done. Lego is supposed to have a simlistic brick-y look to it. At this point bigger characters just look like shrinky-dink action figures. Why the fuck does this guy have wrist joints?

I would argue that flesh-colored skin isn't the problem. It's the overly complex faces that deviate too far from the simplier faces of the 1990s and early LEGO Star Wars.

Minifigures are simplified representation of a human, so it is jarring that you have a very detailed face on a block person.
