I've only seen the first LEGO movie, but come to think of it, what licensed IPs were even in there? The only ones I can remember were there being DC characters, and the very brief Millennium Falcon cameo.
Playmobil actually has some fun, kid-friendly properties (Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Scooby Doo, etc) imagine how fun a movie could have been with a couple original characters, and Slimer, Scooby, and Doc Brown tagging alone. Fuck, Christopher Lloyd probably would have even been down to do the Doc voice.
Frankly though, LEGO is a toy that can appeal to all ages. Kids, teens and adults have sets that are clearly geared toward them, and the whole thing is kind of aimed at everyone.
Meanwhile, I've seen some Playmobile toys that actually look really cool online, but when I see toys in-hand or in the store, they just look like baby toys. Like, I can't imagine anyone over the age of 4 or 5 really getting much out of these things like anyone can with LEGO.
