I assume they copied Transformers, especially some of those Transmetal Beast Wars which would fold their limbs in certain ways to look like vehicles. But it's always came off as extremely awkward looking, I think. They even tried to copy that with the Vahki and the Dark Hunters, and that just seemed desperate.

Lego was too busy with the movie and realized too late that they forgot to account for the first half of the year. Hence the quickly produced Bohrok repaints and dumbass plot points and lore elements all over the place.
But hey, at least it gave the Nuva something to do and develop more before the movie sidelined them.

I don't mind their new power boost/victories going to their heads and them getting btfo in their first encounter with the Kal because of overconfidence - but then they recycled the exact same plot at the start of 06, overconfident Nuva getting btfo by the Piraka, and that time they didn't even have the loss of their elemental powers to blame it on

Those are some abhorrent combiner models. They should've focused on making the combiners smaller, but more more concise. Pic related, for example, is from same year as the rebuilt Matoran sets, but uses way less pieces from the 3 models it's built out of, and looks much much better as a result. Most oftentimes less is actually more.

To be fair he talked about Gali being his first set and he didn't know it was a girl for a while. Yeah well, they aren't exactly creative. Look at /lg/. They make interesting designs. They come up with lore. They build people, vehicles, terrain. What do the mocists around here do? Mostly put together a moc of average brickshelf complexity and take a pic of it in a dull pose and background. There isn't much to comment, especially positively.

Power escalation. It happens in a lot of fantasy stuff. You start from fairly grounded abilities and then later you see increasingly over the top powers.
Back then, when everyone had stock powers like levitation, invisibility etc the Vahi's abilities did seem pretty impressive. But once even regular Toa started displaying late Bleach-tier powers Nikila with her Mask of Possilbities, of course the villains (especially top tiers like the Makuta) had to raise the bar.

Alright, this question's been on my mind for a while. So in Time Trap it's revealed that the Metrutoran were supposed to be the Toa Metru foretold in the stars. Makuta decided to thwart Mata Nui's plans and picked the first six alternatives that popped into his head. It's then revealed that Mata Nui was the one that put them in his head in the first place. But the 2010 storyline states that the reason Mata Nui fell asleep was because he was so focused on the planets he was visiting that he wasn't paying attention to the "microbes" inside him. So why would he have picked the Toa Metru if he didn't know he was in danger or care what happened to them?

I mainly just added the blue technic pieces to the rakshi heads to give her nipples and then added a chain on them to make them look like pierced nipples. I also added a red single stud to be that essence of Makuta she had in the movie.

Also did a simple fix to give her better arms and hands. Used the black arm bar piece and the grey technic stud to attach those visorak leg pieces to give it some greebling, then a ball socket to attach the claw hands with a bahrak eye piece for thumbs.

Dark orange's been used as a brown shade ever since G1, see Hewkii's Matoran forms. Even minifigs use it to represent reddish brown hair.

G2 Lewa's primary color is bright green, which is almost identical to classic green.

Dark azure still dominates Gali's color scheme, since her mask is
in that color.

Functionally, Pohatu, Lewa and Gali still are brown, green and blue respectively. Just different shades. It's like saying that dark blue doesn't qualify as blue.

Speaking of Takanuva, I was thinking about the 2008 set earlier today and once again I had to wonder. Who came up with such an outlandish idea over Lego?

I can understand the Toa Nuva looking like Halo characters, that was very popular at the time. But by 2008 the CRAWLING crowd was moving on to different stuff, and (proof of that) the "hero with a darker side" archetype Lego had attempted (Hordika, Inika albeit only visually) had been proven unsuccessful. Kids wanted straight up heroes who look like heroes, not half-monsters. And yet fucking "Twilight Takanuva" got greenlit.

They didn't? They stopped making vaguely evil looking heroes after the Inika. Stuff got much brighter in general. Brighter colours, cleaner and smoother shapes, gold everywhere. Look at HF, G2, Ninjago etc. The divide between good guys and bad guys has gotten more blatant as years have gone by.

The new theme, codenamed "leaf" is scheduled for later 2020 release, not early and it's unreasonable to except info of it anytime before February's toyfair at earliest, of course it isn't guaranteed Lego would show it there either.

Frankly, I don't think Faber has anything to do with it, even if it turns out to be constraction related in the slightest. We really just have to wait and see, with cautious optimism.

"Dots" was long known for being some girls theme that probably is going to be a retread of Clickits.
There's still that ominous "Leaf" theme that no one knows anything about but I doubt that it's constraction themed given that the system has been nearly completely phased out outside of maybe half a dozen of the most generic parts.

I love this statement because all canister builds sans Barraki were effectively the same Inika build with tweaks up until Stars. Inika's body design was so good they kept the core of it going till the end of the line. They couldn't make anything better to replace it. When people bitch about how lanky and flat the Inika are but then praise the Glatorian or Mahri I laugh. You're just biased against 06 because of the edgy marketing and grimdark themes. Set wise, 06 was peak right behind the Mata and Metru. Everything else is an afterthought.

I wouldn't call it good. As with CCBS, it's intended function was to be a base body upon which you added shells so as to save costs on new molds. And as with CCBS, the execution sucked because large pieces lend themselves poorly to customization and also they kept recycling the shell pieces.

The tweaks made most of them not look flat. Notice how almost every single set started coming up with a backpack, and if not then the front was more bulky, this had to be omitted from almost every single pilot figure and it shows, almost no one likes them because they are flat as a pancake, or should I say Inika.
And then there are the stupid heads with rubber masks, which were ditched altogether.

It's the same story with 2.0/3.0 and Breakout.
The fact Breakout figures fixed the initial flaws of the system they used (mainly the completely open backs), doesn't make the first wave of CCBS any better in retrospect.

Essentially, the writer and his friends were specifically commissioned by Lego to write a song for the Barraki commercial, and the singer, Christine Lorentzen was chosen by audition. After Creeping in My Soul became the number one most downloaded file from the lego website, the writer and producer returned to write Face Me and Gravity Hurts for the Mahri and Phantoka commercials, after which, the group officially formed as Cryoshell.
Lorentzen returned to sing Closer to the Truth (Mistika) and Bye Bye Babylon (Glatorian), before going on maternity leave, where she was temporarily replaced by Tine Midtgaard, who sang Breakout (Hero Factory) and a remix of Gravity Hurts, which replaced the line "Team up for battle, we fly" to "Battle is all in your mind". Lorentzen is back, and Cryoshell is currently working with Faber on Rebel Nature, as well as recording orchestral versions of their other singles. They've already released the orchestral version of Gravity Hurts last year, and Creeping in My Soul this year.
