Vegeta was obviously meant to go with the armored Trunks and they're based more on a particular manga appearance, and awakening Goku is based off of a specific piece of artwork where he wasn't particularly buff.

Dumb reasons involving not wanting powerups to just be people beefing up because it was played out.

That’s just how Japan works. America prefers the heroes who are shredded and bulky, whereas Japan typically sees the skinny strong dude. It explains why Superman, He-Man, wrestlers, and Goku are popular here, whereas in Japan it’s more common for stuff like Ultraman or any of the million anime heroes who are just skinny teens to get popular.
My Hero Academia has some of this going on by making All Might the typical American hero, and Midoriya the typical Japanese hero.
I think it’s partially why Dragon Ball Z caught on with America. I doubt a more typical anime would’ve been as popular with kids.

Dudes getting buff, and ripped as fuck was always kind of even a plot point in DBZ, though.

There's tons of characters in the series who getting super swole was the result of their maxed power, and getting super ripped even became an issue later, and they had to work around it.

For a big guy you can already see his elbow and knee articulation is SSS tier, which is wonderful, and I bet they designed his sculpt REQUIRING that he be able to pull off his iconic poses, which is what they should be doing with EVERY release ever! We still somehow get 2.0/new bodies where legs can't go up more than 60 degrees and elbows have barely a 90 degree bend.

Ginyu is gunna be such a treat.

Well, maybe calling it a "plot point" wasn't quite right, but beefing the fuck up was shown several times for when many of them were going full power, or launching a huge attack (Roshi, Full Power Frieza, Goku once he's fighting FP Frieza, even characters like Broly and Turles if we want to count movies.) Nevermind they got back to it in Super with Jiren and Nu-Broly and such.

You can worm and twist and turn yourself in every way you wish, but that's just how it is.
If you like it and are okay with the size, that's fine, but it's objectively undersized, regardless of whether the real size is impractical or impossible.

He's not because he was never made to scale with other figures. No one expects him to be and Bandai never pretended he should fit in. He even comes with a tiny Goku so they're making it pretty obvious he's not supposed to be in scale with the others. He'd only be undersized if you believe he should be to scale and it's extremely stupid to think that. He is big enough for those who want a figure of him.

besides the SSB to SSG Vegeta faceplate repaint I saw (so basically just the eyes/brows) they never fit in with the rest of the normal line.

only custom that looked somewhat decent was the DF Tien and yamcha kit

I got both Goku's flowing in the wind heads to make setups look more dramatic. I wish they'd make heads like that for other characters or that bandai themselves would do it, but they've shown no interest in accessory packs so I'm just making do with what's available. I don't get what you mean by them not fitting in. They don't look out of place next to other SHF.

In terms of 2.0 bootlegs, SS3 Goku 2.0 can be alright if the given figure has decent joints, cannot really recommend others, especially not SROE bootleg. Majin Vegeta bootleg is terrible for same reasons as SROE. Class E Adventurer Android 17 quite sturdy, detailing is a bit soft though.

I just see a bunch of them on YouTube that look weird. like the yellow is overly dark for the hair than what Bandai would use. hair sculpting doesn't look razor sharp. shadings on Majin Vegetas are done over the top then I read they spent 100+ to get that done

Well, it depends who you get them from. Chinese customizers such as DF are decent. Ones here in the US charge a lot for sloppy work. Like you said, there's also the problem of them not using the same shade for SS, G, and B as Bandai does, so it's hit or miss and, at that point, up to the person. I recently picked up a pair of custom fusion hands for Goku and Vegeta. Bandai didn't include them, but now I have the option to set up that scene. What I'd like now is a Goku and Vegeta face with Potara on.

According to AmiAmi, it began in July last year for any orders under 1000 aud. We only just got hit this month December for 15% GST for the same shit. You're lucky as fuck if you haven't been hit till now but the ride is pretty much over all because they want to make our customs workers work less but still be paid the same when the more likely reality is local business owners are salty as fuck that we buy overseas shit because it's cheaper than buying locally most of the time.

On a small bright side, it seems Mandarake is unaffected as I've been buying from them even after the start of the month and had no issues.

I can do exactly that, but you need a white backing in order to make them pop. So, you lose transparency and one side looks like crap, but the other side looks awesome. I'm trying to find another method.

Frankly, I don't necessarily see the bad part about an aura that looks good only one way. After all, I wouldn't really use official Tamashii auras the other way around either.
That said, definitely curious to see you experiment and maybe find something that works better, too, so I wouldn't want to discourage that.
I noticed that there's an Ultra Instinct statue with a "3D" aura (see: pic related) that kind of reminds me of your style of effects, but I frankly think the effect is a little weak. Too flat? I'm sure that whatever idea/plan you have looks more lively, which is the point at the end of the day.

I want to agree with you since I was yearning for female saiyans.
But Caulifla and Kale were about the worst way they could've added them in my opinion.
The anorexic base designs of all U6 saiyans, the thinly veiled yuribaiting, the way they handled the power-ups.
Caulifla's personality is the one I like most but her design sucks.
Kale makes me wish she went Berserker all the time so I didn't have to listen to her timid yapping. Her SS form is great, though.
Kefla was actually pretty cool in terms of both personality and design. The dominant personality of Caulifla with the more bulked up muscle of Kale's forms. I wouldn't have minded it if the two of them were just condensed into one female saiyan character like Kefla.

Well, as I said, I think Caulifla is okay personality-wise. I just hate that like Cabba, she's a stick, and I think that persists even in her SS and SS2 form.
So for me it's basically:
Kale design = good, Kale personality = bad
Caulifla personality is good, Caulifla design = bad

Hence why I like Kefla. She has Caulifla's personality for the most part and actually bulks up.

I could see Kefla being built on an SS body with an extra base head despite the fact that her base form is also pretty thin, since the difference isn't that dramatic.
But Kale, SS Kale and Berserker Kale are all radically different, more so than Base and Wrath Broly, in my opinion.
Technically, manga Kale is also her own thing, but since Bandai tends to ignore that, I won't bring her up beyond this.

If so, I can really see Caulifla being a fairly easy yet well-rounded release.
Copy the hair sculpt from base to make a SS head. Then make a third head for SS2.
Some base faces and then some SS faces. If they do it well, SS1 faces can work as SS2 faces and vice versa.

I'm like 90% convinced that the Videl/Spopovich fight was a response to fans clamoring for more female fighters. It's easy to forget but back in the day, fights in Dragon Ball could get fucking brutal and Toriyama knew that throwing girls in the mix would make things worse. He basically had to write around #18.

But now that Dragon Ball's been watered down to bloodless video game fighting I don't see the harm in introducing more female fighters.

Xenoverse especially for some dumb reason has a messy idea of how the characters are supposed to scale with each other. Broly is a big guy but not to the extent that one of his legs is the same size as Goku or Jiren.

Bandai's been testing out pre-painting their model kits the last few years (mostly for their Star Wars line). But the technology is getting there.

I can certainly see faces and body shading becoming the standard for the Figure-Rise line in the near future.

Dragon Stars are cheaper quality and simpler figures, therefore they are faster to make than a Figuarts. Not to mention Bandai America doesn’t have much else in the way of toys anymore to focus on making (seriously go check their website , they still list the Wreck it Ralph sequel as one of their current toy lines)

Meanwhile the Figuarts line ALONE has many different themes under its belt, and that’s not even considering all the other toy lines Bandai is working on. We should just be happy dragonball Figuarts well pretty well and we are going to likely keep getting releases for a good while, unlike Sendai, which they dropped at the first sign of poor sales

I dunno? Because he’s mildly obscure? He appears in the trunks ova and that’s basically it. He’s not exactly a badass either. His most notable traits are being a Piccolo wannabe to Trunks, and putting up one hell of a fight against 17 and 18 with only one arm ( although he still lost and died).

But, he can be made with about 90% reused parts, so we will probably get a Figuarts of him eventually. I just hope they include a piece with a tied off sleeve so you can make his one arm version

Yeah, he's actually my favorite. I thought the design looked stupid at first, but it really grew on me.

Like now I look at FP Broly and his design parallels to the OG just seem less charming than the unassuming generic footsoldier look.

I think that mainly has to do with him wearing the armour is when the best parts of his character were shown off. FP is cool and he gets a few good hits in on Gogeta but once the latter turns blue literally seconds later it's just a sad curb stomp for the rest of their fight. Makes me wish they had somewhat of a more even battle to at least justify FP's existence a bit more.

I’d say of the figures before Awakening Goku that only Krillin, Broly, Frezia, 16, 17, and 18 are passable.

They all have articulation that fit in the most with the 2.0s.

But Frieza has a better repaint made later on. Krillin is a bit too broad shouldered, 16 is a bit short (and I always through his green armour should be matte?) and Broly is kinda ridiculous looking with those basketball deltoids (to me at least).

I got curious about this and decided to take another look at the figure. I don't think it's necessarily the size of them but rather where they sit in proportion to his body. On the Figuarts they sit too high up and his neck actually lacks the significant bulk it should have as well, creating this sort of illusion of them being oversized and giving him a bit of a pinhead. I think this is where FP was able to correct this design flaw and part of why he ultimately looks better in comparison.

I'll post some other Broly stuff to show what I mean to try and convey this too. Pic-related is a cap from Movie 8. Notice that his shoulders sit mostly down where they should and his neck is bulked out unlike the Figuarts.

Not fantastic, but they're almost fine for $20. QC problems are slowly creeping into the line though with issues like foot joints and wrist joints being too loose and falling out. They're not great, but not unservicable either. That said, if I see Cooler in the wild, I'll probably get him.
