>>7920787The theme had some brilliant concepts with the initial "totally not Warhammer *wink* *wink*" aesthetics.
It just didn't translate well into the actual product and what we got was just a mess that didn't know what it wanted to be.
If it's a Castle theme then were are all the buildings?
There were like what, three or four building sets in the entire line and it got even worse in the second year where the villains were ruin-themed yet there was only a single piece of ruin and only in an exclusive set.
If it's a Space theme then why still have it in such a mundane setting instead of intergalactic knights fighting on different planets?
If it's an Action theme then why create yet another Ninjago with a different coat of paint and way more boring characters?
I think another reason why it failed was because the design philosophy of creating more blocky, angular and 90s Space inspired sets clashed horribly with Lego's current trend of round, smooth and overly complex designs and bricks.
Especially a lot of the supplementary vehicles suffered from this and ended up looking like halfassed B-model side builds you'd find on the back of the box.
