That hairpiece is my favorite of all time for female figures. Also check out this cool box i got from the a TJ Maxx. It's from a playing card and dice set, but it perfectly fits these 4x4 tiles. its got a nice sky blue leather outer as well. Makes me want to build a kind of polly pocket or something.

Is this fucker mentally retarded? This is all the themes of a decade, not what Lego currently has now. Most of these themes aren't in production now and a decent chunk only lasted for a wave. The drooling mong isn't taking into account how many sets each year is made for each theme - licensed IPs are guaranteed 3 waves a year while not all original IPs are.

Happy holidays, I'm ProLC. You may not know me, but that's ok too. I don't need lots of people to recognize me as I stand in the baby toys section of Kohl's and try and feel the inner parts of the 2020 DC minifigure blind bags. I'm sure some people wouldn't even try going into an American department store retail chain and preform magic to ensure they are able to collect a variant Batman. Is it sad that some people would? I don't think it should even be a topic for discussion in 2019. Some people might be embarrassed. But the very corporately happy middle-aged lady at the cash register tried to make small talk about the product even though she had no idea what the heck could be inside such a small bag and cost more than five dollars. It's a toy and it costs that much? "I hope you get one you don't already have." She may have genuinely wanted you to not get a double. It's that kind of attempt that I want to make for this community. I want to make one of the posters of LEGO General happy, maybe even just a little bit. That's why we have the Saddest Christmas Building Competition.

Just build something in the spirit of Christmas and mild depression for a chance to be judged. You still have about 4 hours to build, post, and timestamp basically any MOC you want for a chance to win a prize. A very real, usable, build-able, playable, semi-swooshable, and offical LEGO prize that is valued at around $5.00 USD. Please see the attached picture for a visual representation of the 2018 reindeer ornament set.

Using Bricklink + spare parts I built the 2010 ARC-170 with a display stand. I always wanted the 2005 set as a kid but the nose of the 2010 version looked better.

to the anon who was asking last thread about the kessel run falcon, it might interest you to see some of the recent modifications I made to my own kessel run falcon.

the original (picutred) was a bit tight on space compared to some of the other ones, and to me felt a bit too pristine and new design-wise

I knocked down the two arches in the front of the ship, took out the huge-ass bed booth and the mini-bar, made the couch smaller, and moved the console to the newly opened up front section. I also added quad turrets. I really liked the white/blue colorscheme of this one, and I wasn't about to let myself buy the 2015 model so I could have a more spacious falcon, so I compromised and made some changes to mine. I think it's turned into quite the comfy little playset now

Are any of those lego subscription boxes worth it? I tried one a couple months ago and it sucked ass, they put in fake pieces, dirty pieces, dryer lint. It was utter garbage.

Just got the lab, I must day it has a fair amount of parts for 20 bucks. Still pretty rough price but I was surprised it wasn't just two lumps and a minifigure. The other hidden side stuff are too expensive though, it goes from 20 to 35 with nothing in between, at least around here.

I’m at work right now so I can post some breakdowns later but the torso is a 2x2 with bar with a 1x1 plate with vertical clip in the middle of the bar with a travis brick (1x1 studs on all sides) on that. 2x1 plate with stud in the middle goes on the 1x2 with bar, travis brick on that. The 2x1 bit makes the upper torso. There’s a t piece in the bottom travis brick holding the cape in and that fills the gap when you push the torso together

Themes are designed to last 3 years; if they are really popular they go on for more and if they flop they are pulled before the 3 years are up. It isn't a case of Lego not bothering with it, but rather you, the consumer, not investing in it. Basically, buy shit you like and encourage others to do the same and Lego will respond to this.

Heck, just look at Hidden Side. Some employees wanted an augmented reality theme and already had an original pitch. So TLG gave theme a pass. Except the marketing department is ethier extremely stupid, or deliberately chose the box designs that tell almost nothing about what the set is, thus causing less sales because parents are more reluctant to buy something they can't even properly recognise as a set.
It's all deliberate, the theme underperforms because of it, then TLG maybe introduces one more thing that will undermine and then the theme ends at the end of 2020.

But I'd have to wonder why lego let the GB license lapse after doing only one set for GB 2016 and the Firehouse. They did not know beforehand that GB2016 would be a middling success at most and have in the past and present often invested in licenses that aren't that popular. So if they had any plans I really doubt they would have let the license go that quickly.

Lego's decision might have been also a reaction to that bad reception. And then when the new movie started being made TLG could have realised their mistake and start preparing for it. That's why at least in the case of Bionicle and this Hidden Side themes it makes sense. Bullshit like investing all the money into a handful of 14carat masks instead of better advertisment or bland package as it is being said ITT was a decision of their deparment, in one case it ultimatelly meant one of the reasons of its graceless end.
The others may not be so much deciding the set but rather suggestion of what would sell better.

pretty new to legos, loved them as a kid and now I've rebuying stuff to use as D&D props and now my niece and nephew love both D&D and legos and aren't on their phones constantly

i've already gone pretty deep on legos so there's no turning back now and i'm trying to look for instructions and building enemies some enemies. So far all they're fighting are random bandit mooks, goblins, skeletons, ghosts, and small enemies like snakes bats and scorpions

Well think about it. Mixels, while also being collectable buildable figures with a very specific design approach to them, were excellent part packs for fairly reasonable price because of the new mixel joints. Meaning that they could be bought over and over again just for parts alone, meaning that the production would have a problem if there was not enough factories. Heck, Mixels even had a combiner gimmick (Maxels or how they were called), giving it even more re-buy value.
Brickheadz could have easily implemented the mixel joints in a way that complements it's design (just imagine them with angled arms instead of the stubs they had now, definitely an improvement), yet they didn't. Their whole shtick was the collectibility, but without the benefit of buying them over an over again (they are not as great part packs as Mixels were, because they do not have new very useful pieces going with them). Add to that that their characteristic is just pop culture references, giving Brikheadz long time sustainability because you can adapt more known characters over the years and what you get in the end is getting as much if not more money than Mixels, but without the downside of having to produce so many pieces at once.

Doubt it. Bionicle G2 was underwhelming and flopped, especially towards the end.
Hopefully at some point in the next 5-10 years we might see a new construction/technic theme that isn't Bionicle or CCBS. More realistic it'll just be mixel joints and normal bricks tho.

Finished the Hidden Side subway station.

pros:
That wagon biting action is simple but really well done - probably my favorite transformation function so far.
Those effect parts are amazing. Should they be released in red later on you can bet your ass that people will buy them by the dozens since they'd work really great as over the top blood splatter effects.
The subway/sewer worker looks great and I could see him being used for various other occupations.
Overall a nice selection of parts, especially if you need some curved ones and arches.
Next to no nonsensically colored pieces outside of some light blue 1x4 plates on the roof of the wagon but since that color is also used elsewhere it doesn't matter.

cons:
No matter how you look at it, this isn't a subway station at all - it's a piece of sewer with rails in the middle. I mean fuck, I've yet to see a station where the platform isn't parallel to the rails.
The wheels of the wagon are comically small and the windows too low.
I'm genuinely getting sick of stickers by now. you can keep them for smaller, optional details like the wooden plank on the side or the bolted on plates on the back but essential stuff like signs or the station clock definitely needs to be printed.

Went to pick up the safari jeep and found they had put a load of new and exclusive parts in the bam station, the ice king type guys torso is very nice and the robe has front and back printing.

Pic related. Why do 99% of buildings have little to no interior detail? I was simply in love with the level of detail the Qwik E Mart had. But Lego seems to only care about exteriors most of the time, it's quite upsetting

I don't think that's really true. The modulars mostly have nice interiors (Garage is a bit bare imo, gonna turn it into a cafe + double apartment), and the City buildings are shallow so they don't have room for much crap.

Gotta leave some room to fit your hands / minifigs.

I play with it, take minifigs and small builds outdoors with me and take photos sometimes. Very rarely do I actually have anything on a shelf.

I like to build my own things, but i rarely do because my parts are so disorganized. When i buy a set i build it, maybe order parts to tweak it if im generally unsatisfied with it, and occasionally play/fiddle with it the same way i would any other toy. I try to at least give them fun poses or scenes whatever when theyre on a shelf.

Hi, I got to see some summer sets from the theme known as Leaf. The theme is called Time Warriors. The series is a love letter to Lego fans, it has classic castle, spca, pirates all redone in a time travelling theme. The sets are great, it's a lot similar to Hidden Side.

I wish I could still play with lego and toys. I seem to have lost that ability since becoming an adult, it's like a "spark" isn't there anymore.

the only reason I can think that lego has avoided making cars that seat two figs is because they would have to swap the instructions and box art for countries where cars drive on the left side of the road.

Maybe those countries could learn to drive on the right side of the road.
It's otherwise really condescending that Lego would have to assume a builder wouldn't be able to figure out how to reverse the driving seat. It would only be an issue in technic cars or if the designers used a bunch of L/R oriented pieces/stickers.
