>>7928028>>7928086>>7928104So in the latest Maketoys drama, apparently a stock of reissue supply they were sending out got stolen. This includes reissues of the much sought-after Meteor and Downbeat. While a lot ofthis doomsaying is just speculation, a lot of people think MT is relying on their current releases to fund future ones, and reissuing such in-demand figures was meant as a secure cash flow for their remaining projects. That, plus their online shop closing made a lot of people suspect they're winding down.
That said, it would be a damn shame, but I suspect their designers will stay afloat since, imo, they're the best 3P as far as matching the current MP aesthetic, as well as having some of the nicest engineering short of Perfect Effect(I don't own Iron Factory stuff but I hear they're nicely done as well). Zeta or Magic Square would do well to scoop them up. People always hate me saying this, but I think they'd have been better off if they dumped Cross Dimension in favor of more G1 MP. If they did a Perceptor or a combiner, I think they'd have done very well. The problem is, before Downbeat, their MPs didn't really work with the established aesthetic. When Meteor came with an attachment for Despotron, the shift in styles was very apparent.
As cool as cross Dimension is, the market barely supports Classics anymore. The only market is rounding out IDW designs but that'll dry up soon.Original designs though? Its clear people are more hesitant to that, unfortunately. I suspect there'll be a second Classics(or WFC generations scale, in particular) boom coming up soon, but thats another discussion.
