I think I understand what OP is trying to say.

Using myself as an example, when I was younger I used to love going to chinatown and to thrift stores to find cool toys that I would never see at my typical local brick and mortar store (toys r us, walmart, etc.) and it would be like finding hidden treasure to see some really cool unique looking toys with articulation and sculpt that was pure eye candy to my young eyes, especially when I started getting into anime. Made me want to go search for more stores for similar stuff because I would never see it otherwise.

What I THINK OP is trying to say, is that he was hoping this board would provide something a little similar to that. We have such easy access to toys from all parts of the world now, it's so easy to find and share something interesting, that you pretty much lose that sense of wonder.

We do occasionally have threads about original designs aka art toys, but they inevitably get shit up by people who hate anything they think is too 'pretentious'. Like just try to have a thread that isn't about popular anime or Western cape shit and it falls apart like a Chinese motorcycle.

Come to think of it even threads about popular shit like marvel and starwars are regularly shit up by escaped /pol tards.

Tell that to all the peaceful comfy generals that are going on right now while the recent Mafex one instantly continued on with the typical capeshit bitching.

Make it less 'art' toys and more interesting/unique toys and you might get around some of that preconceived pretentious attitude. That or just ban the usual big names like Ashley Wood/3A from the discussion.

Most classic toys don't have a lot of articulation though. Having a ton of double joints shoved everywhere is a pretty recent thing.

To me art toys do recapture that feeling of interesting design discovery, at least they do more so than 'check out this third party version of gandalf!' that most people on here think is original.

Fashion doll general : contains pullip autist and a couple of fuckers constantly complaining about how Barbie isn't allowed to be sexy anymore.

Kaiju general : pretty chill until you mention NECA then the thread is fucked

Star wars general: /pol 2.0.

NECA general: it just isn't allowed to exist period.

Marvel general: haven't been back there since black panther was a big deal. Probably just /pol 3.0

Are the other generals any better than the ones I frequent?

Star Wars and Marvel are easily the worst generals on /toy/ and really need purging.

A good rule of thumb tends to be avoid any general that is Marvel/Star Wars or has any competing figures from Import brands vs Western ones, at least if you want to avoid a lot of pointless shitting. Check out the generals for smaller toy lines or ones you don't know that well and you tend to find that they are slower but much more relaxed/friendly as a result.
It's helped me keep an interest in toys while the toy lines I used to like a lot have made me jaded with focus on franchises I'm burnt out on or stupid price rises.

Polynian general is usually pretty alright if not absolutely glacial. The Revoltech general is also usually nice which is weird considering the capeshit connection.
Figma general is frequented by shitposters and complete assholes but the usual OP is good at keeping up with news and updates.
