I only got the full set recently and they’re great. Though I kinda wish they’d made the Krana in the transluscent eye colors too, the eyes and Krana are meant to match but I feel overall they’re not close enough. Making them actually the same color wouldn’t have hurt anything

I agree, but I have a hard time finding the right eye color for red characters myself. Color theory would probably suggest green, but that just doesn't fit most villains. Purple would have looked neat, but trans purple was for some god-knows-what reason forbidden during G1.

The story is childish and never goes anywhere, the progression the characters get feels really stupid, main example being Rocka.

Visually it's been said one of it's inspirations was Ratchet and Clank, problem is it seems like they tried to make HF more like the new ones than the old. The sets should had tried to own a more industrial than high-tech aesthetic, everything being just smooth shapes gets boring fast. It also deals with gappines much better and I'd say aesthetically 1.0 heroes nailed the look, even if they sucked as sets, especially the other half with their laughable gun arms. Almost everything after Breakout sucked major ass and can be almost entirely blamed for budget cuts and the decision to bring Bionicle back, however I wish they had in advance thought about introducing some elments that would had been more in line with G2 In Hero Factory already during the design phase of Invasion from Below, why we couldn't have a simple limb with some piston texture and no balljoint attachment in the middle is beyond me when they made use of one bone piece for only one wave with the skeletons.

Thornraxx was amazing as well. Pretty much a reboot Nui Rama, and he was one of the small sets. Also probably the only CCBS set to not use a torso bone.

Either G2 Kopaka is definitely worthwhile. Master is pure CCBS but is a solid design, while Uniter has some great Technic fusion going on and looks even better imo

This is what we call a bad opinion.
Master Kopaka is the best master set because his build is solid and makes actual use of the othervise sticking out balljoints of the torso and has a well balanced color scheme.

Uniter Kopaka on the other is second worst of the bunch only next to Pohatu, but even Pohatu doesn't look like a downgrade in power level.
The shoulderbuild is ok but the pauldrons look weird due to them having no angle so his shoulders look just flat, gold on his legs looks ugly mainly cause he has it nowhere else. The white chest piece makes his crotch and hip section look like a black void in contrast. It's like you only like him because more complex equals better in your mind and you get a nostalgia hard-on cause of his skinnier build despite everything else being almost nothing like Kopaka. The sword is cool, least I give you that.

Agreed, yellow eyes on red sets do look great, especially dark red ones. Very fiery look. It's such a common color in System, so it's odd constraction used it rather sparingly.

I was thinking about red sets in general, granted what you described is viable, though slightly expensive. Not THAT crazy expensive however. I'm personally more bummed we never got trans purple eyestalks, or in bright green.

Mostly talking about G1. You're right that trans purple would've been too dark for most sets. It's one of those "dark trans" hues that just don't show well, like Toa Onewa's trans blue for instance.
Maybe using trans pink or magenta would've done the trick.

G2 was never going to use such outlandish colors, it's a miracle we even got trans light blue. A pity since HF had struck some decent variety.

Not him but I mean, Kopaka's always had a skinny frame, if anything he IS much more like Kopaka than the Master. Either way those are pretty valid criticisms but I feel that they dont ruin him for me, and I appreciate the more complex build. Building the figure is as much of a part of the fun as having it completed.

The Uniters were fine, but I definitely prefer the original Masters. They have way more variety in body shape while the Uniters all have a very similar silhouette, and the masks are more accurate to the Mata.

Kopaka is slimmer, Lewa is slim but more nimble with his swingy arm, Gali has her leg pieces upsidedown and extra technic pins placed in her thighs to imply she's feminine, Tahu has broad shoulders, etc etc.

Tbh I'm a little of the opposite. I was losing interest because I didn't really like the proto-CCBS system EVERY figure used, the switch from Bionicle to Hero Factory (and CCBS proper) was just my excuse to move on from these toys.

It was overall bad, but it's oddly nostalgic to me. Actually felt bigger than 2004 for some reason, maybe because we got to learn about a few backstories and some lore bits (the Dark Hunters, the Brotherhood, the Avohkii, etc). And Time Trap was a lot of fun.

Bio: This instance of GAMP actually started as a regular human general, who got corrupted with power and planned to take over his host country and the world with a GAMP bragza (core) he found in some wreckage, feeding it with junk and biomass via a pit under the mainframe it was installed in.
He managed to hook it up and even link it with his mind, allowing him to remotely use its mystical power. However, a raid by a few elite warriors led to him accidentally falling into said junk pit. He would've died, had the warriors not also severed the core and sent it into the pit. The core's self-preservation protocols suddenly initiated, consuming the mass it was trapped in, including the unconscious general.
The former general awoke, now inhabiting said core. He compressed it and formed a gargantuan body out of various dead robots and corpses, rebreathing life into the muscles and turning them into tentacles that would seek out mechanical parts to assimilate into limbs. His hunger for power changed into a hunger for becoming the best warrior and adapter. He would use his power to transform his wrecked fortress into a powerful orbital station, allowing it to reach new heights, including the creation of drones such as pic related on the left.
Now he travels through space with his fortress, eager to build an empire and conquer the cosmos.

Were the Spherus Magna fragments all independent planets or were the two small ones moons of Bara Magna? I was pretty sure they were moons, but then I realized someone like Nixie on Mata Nui would surely have noticed BM and the giant robot parts scattered on its surface at some point if they were so close. BS01 also claims each fragment was its own planet (and Aqua Magna even had its own moon), but then that doesn't seem to fit with the iconic Three Virtues layout of the fragments, which implies Aqua and Bota were near Bara in a relatively fixed position.
Is there any interpretation of the whole system that actually makes sense or should I just file this under "because it looks cool" and stop thinking about it?

But all in all this anon >>7935804 is right, they didn't develop this thing with much depth. And the movie that pic is from messed up things even further by depicting Bara Magna's moons as separate objects from Aqua Magna that aren't even in the same galaxy apparently.

A MNOG-like story featuring the Protectors with small glimpses of the Toa would really have been a good idea. In hindsight it was pretty dumb to give the sets in an affordable price range (for kids) basically no focus in the story.

It's a lot better in the novels. Vakama's transition from good to evil is a lot more gradual, a lot more believable, and the end result is toned down a bit. The plot and characters also get fleshed out a lot more, since both have more room to breathe. Roodaka and Sidorak were pretty great villains, not going to lie, and it was the first time someone other than Teridax took the reins as the year's arc villain. I can admit that.
I can't blame the story team much, since they were ready to get back to the present time and plan out the Voya Nui arc until Lego ordered another Metru Nui year. But it's just so nonsensical and comes off as Bionicle trying to milk the "heroes struggling with their DARK SIDE" trope that was all the rage in the early/mid 2000s.

I love the 2005 sets (in fact I rank it above 2004), and I'm still nostalgic about that period, but the plot falls apart even upon a brief analysis.

The thing is that G1 and G2 are opposites in that regard. In G1 the Toa are treated like gods when they really aren't. In G2 the Toa actually ARE a godlike embodiment of the elements that literally come from the stars, but they're treated with barely any reverence after they arrive.

Not the anon you replied to, but unless stated otherwise I assume that members of a given species kind of look all the same (sans colors and probably minor armor details). Think the Vortixx or the Skakdi. So another Steltian would look like pic related.

By "unless stated otherwise" I was referring to the special case that was TSO's species. Greg took 4 models, built by four different people and never meant to be related, and bruteforced their characters into belonging to the same species. But I'm going to assume that the vast majority of species follow the far more simple Skakdi/Vortixx rule I mentioned.

Eh, he went through at least 3-4 types of mutagenic shit, so it never bothered me that he looks nothing like Sidorak. You can argue that he should've been a Vortixx instead, or that they should've built his head around the Metru head.
Just more proof there should've been more communication between the story team and the set designers.

I've done it with all of mine and they were fine, biggest problem was that they fly all over the room once they pop out. Mata heads are the most effective launcher Bionicle has ever had.

CCBS is a good idea for a Lego toy in theory but its inclusion ruined the Bionicle aesthetic entirely which was a mish-mash of different connection systems. CCBS really makes sense as it is less complicated and I have to admit I was too lazy or dumb to every do serious Bionicle moccing as a kid because it always looked crude and never as sleek as something from a real set but the CCBS system is something that removes these options so everything looks sleek but at the same time also like a simple color change.

I have seen instructions where people used a couple of additional parts to separate the pieces but I wouldn't recommend it because trans pieces that old are very brittle.
