Outside of the Ooing and Aahing at the garage kits being sold at each WonFes there's actually very little garage kit discussion on here. Maybe you'll see someone talking about a kit they got in the Gunpla general or the Scale Model general on a blue moon, but other than that it's mostly just salty tears about not being able to get some kit they saw at WonFes that'll never reprinted by the original creator and has practically zero chance of getting a recast made.
>But you can just get a middleman! If past WonFes threads didn't make it clear to you /toy/ doesn't keep up at all with GK makers (Unless they're a big name like Daibadi was before he went legit), and most interest in GK from here is based solely on "Wow that looks cool". Expecting /toy/ to be up to date on who's putting out what at each WonFes, let alone getting a middleman to go to the convention for them and wait on line for a CHANCE to get the stuff they want, is expecting too much from posters of a Somalian Potato Farming Forum.
>Then just go to WonFes yourself! The average ticket price to Japan is around $800-1000 depending on the location you're starting from, and that's the cost of a one-way ticket. Room and board for a week would be another $1k on top of that (At around $150 a night), and taking local transportation and food costs you're looking at least a $3000 trip to and from Japan, just to buy some stuff at a convention. Of course you could certainly fit in some other stuff in the other 6 days you'd be in Japan, but the fact of the matter is a week long trip to japan is something most /toy/ soldiers can't afford, both cost-wise and time-wise.
Note that this isn't even taking into consideration that most /toy/ posters probably wouldn't even know where to begin with a resin kit, between the pinning and resin dust and all the other intricacies that go into putting one together compared to a plastic model. Garage Kits simply don't appeal to the common poster.
