>>7954440Man, i remember being there when SBT was announced at Comic Con.
At the very last 5 minutes of a panel about upcoming CN shows, Genndy came out and showed off a preview. He wasn't even sitting at the edge of the table, basically just seperate from the table where other creators like Peter Chung sat.
You could tell that something was off because of that and the fact that the panel had Genndy billed first. Only he showed up too, whereas the other shows had writers, VAs, plus creators.
Definitely was stillborn, but i assumed Genndy only left AFTER CN couldn't get anyone to make products from the show. So the SDCC panel was after he got the news that they weren't going to pursue another season.
BTW, CN would have gotten revenue from the toylines and cares A LOT about licensing. Hence them making Secret Saturday and various other shows purely for toyetic/licensing reasons. Supposedly, their failures is why toy makers weren't willign to license SBT.
IT's shit like Teen Titans and Justice League that are WB proper, instead of a CN property, where they basically canceled those shows out of spite because they couldn't make a dime off of how popular those toylines were. They had great ratings, but CN isn't happy with just ad revenue.
DC Nation was a sabotaged hardcore by CN for pretty much the same reason.
CN only had success with Ben 10's toyline, hence it still being around, but Adventure Time showed them where they could get licensing $$$: female audiences. They'll buy trendy clothes and other fashion accessories. This is why they started focusing on shit that girls like, like Steven Universe.
