Does it, really? I mean, there has to be SOMETHING why people buy the sets, but I just don't get it... if you want a display piece, there's better options (IMHO) and they are cheaper too.

But with legos you are also paying for the "building toy" aspect, and if you just want to display the model, all that goes basically to waste.

Don't be an idiot. As much as there are serious collectors who enjoy things and lucky kids with rich parents, the too much money crowd that buys things like that to show off is a noticeable trend. Hell they probably have some fun with it too. Even if you're not serious about lego and get it for shallow reasons it's pretty hard not to. But, a certain amount of cynisism is healthy and sometimes people really are kinda dumb.

I never noticed what a cheap and great source of parts the Speed Champions line is. The building techniques are really sophisticated too. Just picked two of these up today. I wouldn’t have thought of a car as being swooshable until I built this.

Red Dwarf, honestly. But sitcom sets would be so fucking boring, honestly. The Friends one was hot garbage, and generally pointless. Yeah i'm not a fan of the laugh track personally, but laugh tracks aren't themselves a sign of a bad show, its when the laugh track is used in place of any actual humour (like in the Big Bang Theory).
IT Crowd is different to BBT because it has proper setups, punchlines and payoffs throughout each episode, and it acknowledges that making a surface level nerd culture reference isn't a joke by itself.

Also I don't really care for the sitcom themed Ideas sets, I just like the IT crowd.

It's one of those things that ended up being simpler in theory than practice due to some odd spacing, there's a ton of headlight bricks and such in the bumper itself to get studs facing all direction, plus trying to avoid gaps (the middle is 3 plates wide rather than 2.5/1 stud, for example)

Honestly I'd just want a couple Perry the Platypus figures. Spy and pet modes, just simple molds without moving bits necessary, about the size of the small dog figs.
Otherwise I don't really think many animated series or films translate too well into Lego.
I think Scooby Doo is a decent example of this, though their human characters are naturally easier to translate into Lego, however the molds of Scooby himself are fucking great.
Phineas and Ferb as a kids' show does probably lend itself to Lego in the sense of imagination and crazy over-the-top constructions. Robots and submarines and rollercoasters and such.
Is that show still running, anyway? It came out well after I could get much enjoyment from it, but my little sister and kids in the family seem to have enjoyed it.

The show started in 2007 and ran for four seasons (plus a movie after the 2nd season, and more than a few specials) and ended in 2015.
It got a spiritual successor in Milo Murphy's Law, though it contradicts some of the stuff that PnF established (since MML takes place in the future, and they had many timetravel/future episodes in PnF), and most fans sadly agree that Milo Murphy is kind of lame in comparison (never capitalized on its potential, etc etc), though it has its fans.
Phineas & Ferb is actually not gone completely though, since it's getting another movie on Disney+ later this year, and they have been talking about yet another unrelated PnF movie being in the works for years now.
Consider trying it out again sometime, I just binged the whole series for fun and it was actually really enjoyable.

As I understand it the previous wave had Kai/Zane focus (with the fire/ice shit). The videogame shit is putting Jay front and center. So maybe something that has to do with one of the others.
Bringing Garmadon back to give Lloyd a wedgie could be something, though it's kinda played out. Honestly P&F kinda seems like one of those shows that would maintain relevance long after it's over. I mean I didn't catch too much of it, but as far as late 00's-10's cartoons go, it seems a lot more quality and wholesome. I mean especially with netflix and shit these days, I'm sure a lot of kids are still huge fans of P&F even if it ended before they were even born.
And I think it's fair to admit there aren't many of those purely quality, eternally loved cartoons floating around anymore.

And yeah youre not wrong, i feel. I remember i brought up PnF in conversation once at uni a few months ago, and all my classmates immediately blew up into talking about how much they loved the show. Despite being very familyfriendly, it still has this appeal that transcends age and generations, it feels like. It was just a real well-written show.

I had an amazing Lego store guy a while back who offered me a seat while I packed, and brought out an extra 20ish tubs of leftover PAB bits that weren't enough to be on display. Really nice dude, said he liked even the weird Afols over screaming kids.

Tbh the first few PAB cups I packed super autistically but it takes about an hour to do properly. Now I make a central 'core' of big / flat pieces stacked neatly and the rest is kinda poured in. I'd say it makes about a 10-20% difference at most.

How many times? Geez, probably everytime i take a peek at my minifigure bin. I take a minifigure i like and put them in chains. I modified the interior of the Emmet's Rescue Rocket into a strip club a while ago aswell.

Unrealted but our cleaning lady came over today and brought her daughter with her. Now i'm missing various lego pets. Most of them are exclusive prints aswell. Dorothy's dog, that cat lady's cat from TLM2 CMFs are missing. And Unikitty fan's plush bear from the Ninjago CMF line is missing aswell. I'm pissed off. How wrong is it to punch a child?

Yeah it’s only 4, two of them are pretty big though.

Years ago I would imagine I owned these sets and act like I was playing with them, thinking about all the action scenes I’d have the minifigs go through, the awesome battles between the Robot and my other sets. Or lining up all of my Rock monsters and having the crystal sweeper sweep all of them up.
I wrote down in my notebook at school the script for a short story about Dr D Zaster and Dr Inferno, and how D Zaster betrays Inferno and steals the robot, but then Infenro teams up with the agents to take him down. I remember reading it to my brother and him looking at me like I was a retard since we didn’t even own either of those minifigs.
I remember playing with my LEGO Star Wars battle droids and making them talk about how they were going to collect 2500 copper credits (pennies) and buy a Cannon to defend geonisis, since the set was $25. Too much for my parents apparently though.

During release this lot would’ve been less than $200. I can afford to pay triple that but I only get paid monthly so it would set me back quite a bit.

A couple of weeks ago the entire site was attacked by Dolphin-kun who was exploiting a weakness in the Lynxchan captcha system, and half of the threads seem to have disappeared. We now only have 2 pages of threads but there was 4 before the attack. Seems like only /lego/ was affected though, which is weird. What pisses me off is that Dolphin was only after /r9k/ but affected /lego/ more than his target.

Do you not know about Pick’a’brick at Lego Stores? You fill a cup with however many pieces you can cram into it and pay a flat fee for the cup. So obviously you can better control the empty space by building things that conform to the shape of the cup. So I spent the entire day doing that.

The hull was sort of based on the P26/40 tank, but most of it is sort of broad strokes. IRL Italian TDs mostly had a very flat upper glacis, but I've kept the ball+socket mantlet and some other stuff

Dang anon, I kinda know that feel. Any time my nieces or nephews get excited about my collection, I generally outline in a kid-friendly way that many of the models I'd spent so much time on that they shouldn't be touched. At the same time outlining the stuff I'm fine with them digging through and playing with. They're definitely going to make a mess, so don't get upset.
I also usually give the kid a minifigure to take home too, because they're often most impressed by the absurd number of minifigs I have.

I'll usually just kinda ask the kids what they like to build and if they play legos with friends and that sort of thing. I just kinda look back to when I was 11 or whatever and would run into an "afol" at the store or an older cousin with a collection. I was mostly so impressed by everything that I'm sure just asking questions would keep a kid like me occupied
Also makes me feel somehow less autistic when I mention how great it is to the parents that their kid loves Lego, because of creativity and engineering and all that jazz

My cousin's kid thinks I'm the coolest cause of all my lego but I also let him play with some of it and gave him some blindbag duplicates. So if you'd rather the kid not touch anything you might be out of luck with not making shit awkward. Maybe have some loose pieces or minifigs ready if he wants to play.

They're minifig barbell ends, I think?
