Not to be a total nihilist but not a chance. Especially so soon after the failure of G2, that would be too risky so it's more likely to be a new internal theme. If/when they bring technic/constraction figures back, I don't imagine it will even be Bionicle again, more of a fresh start like Hero Factory was.

I've been getting into Gunpla lately, it's cool and all but you can't build your own stuff as easily. Kitbashing is hard, yo, and it's much more risky than making some wacky MOCs. Besides, Bionicle has significantly better lore. Gundam lore is a clutterfunk and not that interesting desu. Zakus are cool though.

Gundam's lore is significantly less fucky than Bionicle's desu, and I say that as someone who was hyper into Bionicle long before I even knew what Gundam was. There's a fuckton more to Gundam but that's normal for something 40 years old, and until they started fucking around adding anything and everything to early UC it was pretty clear and linear from one show to the next.

Like feet? who needs feet you got sockets with triangles. And are those hands for shoulders? Can you even call those hands when they're only hands half the time? and boy there's probably a better way to attach those claws, who gives a fuck just stick em on some socket pieces and pop em onto the arms.

If that's what you were going for you got it down perfectly, shit's straight out of a 2000 technic section. The only way this could possibly be improved is to find a worse part to use as a chest piece and head.

It was only a $10 order with the two main masks, Ekimu's and Nu-Makuta', and two skelly chest armors, so hopefully it'll just be a little packet. Tho I'm half nervous shipping is gonna be like $20. I haven't watched Rogue One so I don't know how accurate his design is, but K2SO looks like shit from the side. He has that bulging starving african gut like the Protectors, and his shoulders are a mile behind his neck like the Masters. I guess that explains his long forearms. The mechanism doesn't work great either. It jams. But at least it doesn't rely on rubbers that will burn with time.
It's a pity though. He could had been black Slenderman or something.

Any tips on how to go about fixing loose parts? I know a very light coating of glue usually does the trick for gundam parts but I'm only just not getting back into bionicle
Also broken sockets, any use trying to repair those or do I just order more?

For some reason Lego seems more secretive about it than usual, during Nuremberg Toy Fair some people are let in (journos, industry people among some others) but without cameras allowed. So they mostly give just descriptions of what the sets were like but it appears they weren't on display there at all.

All this talk about Vladek's visor over at /lg/ is making me want to moc a Vladek. I have the third one and the sneaky henchman incomplete. Visually they're good, but structurally they suck. Ratchet joints are restrictive, the action gimmick makes the arm floppy and can't be locked in place like in bonkles, and their torsos are like bathroom toys. Closed and hollow.

What is it about Bionicle that makes the lore feel unique? Naming scheme? Weird ass side content? Nostalgia?
Trying to put my finger on it but I don't know if it was actually special or if I just really liked the comics as a kid.

Honestly, the more I think about Bionicle lore, the worse it gets. It was such a mess by the end I can't believe I still enjoy it.
2001 started off really well, but the shift from more fantasy to straight sci-fi (using that term loosely) really messed it up.
However, as for what got me, it was honestly just the designs, colors, and the names. "Tahu. Gali. Vakama. Takua. Hewkii. Hahli. Kongu." They all had this mystical, island feel that made them really interesting and exotic. Really sold the whole tribal feel. And that's not even getting started on the locations on Mata Nui.
Then we got names like "Vamprah" and "Hydraxon" and everything started going downhill. The lawsuit really screwed over things.

To me, it's the basic ideas and potential rather than the execution. Amnesiac robots forming a primitive culture and belief system based on fragments of their memory and secrecy of their leaders, and they gradually go on to uncover literally world-shaking hidden truths that were built up since the start. I also like how the lore exists on multiple "tiers", the personal struggles of the islanders, the Toa's adventures with the villains, and the backstory about the GSR and its mission. And each revelation put these elements into different perspectives.
Like the Bohrok. At first, it seems like a generic fantasy plot where the heroes beat a bunch of bugs, then we find out the Bohrok were actually good guys woken up too early and the Toa have to let them fulfill their mission because the bigger world around them demands so. All cool concepts, just more often than not the execution was shitty. Heavy themes went under-explored to make way for the new toys, Greg's forced cliffhangers, dumb action scenes and quipping characters. I now realize that often what I loved about the story was how I visualized and played it out in my head, rather than what was actually there on the pages.
The atmosphere of the old ads and animations though was top notch. The scope and mysteriousness of the world made up for the super simple early story and contradictory media. The setting was expansive and developed but left room for imagination, the characters had their own culture, and you got to explore it though MNOG and the video clips. And the feeling that the whole story was building up to something "big" permeated the experience, because the basic goals and mysteries were laid out since the start. There was some filler like the Kal, and odd detours like the flashbacks, but most of the time the new plots built on each other toward a goal (Mata Nui waking up, defeating Makuta, etc) rather than being a string of loosely connected events. Made it feel like there was a point to it all.

Yeah I never understood why the Maori had to be such pusses over using words and names in a way that wasn't even disrespectful. If anything they could've seen it as a way to spark interest in their culture. But yeah I'd say 2005 was probably the start of the decline, with 2007 being a higher point, and then back downhill from there.
And thinking about it, that's probably what helped G2 kinda flop was that it was bionicle in name only, and everything about its story was pretty weak and shallow

I think part of it is the unusual and rare balance between sci-fi (technology) and fantasy (magic). Some years veered more into one of the two, but the other was still very much present. Kanohi and elements are magic, no matter how much you try to explain them.
I like fantasy much more than sci-fi, but pure fantasy bores me after a while, so I like settings that mix the two. But the way Bionicle mixes them, I cannot think of a world that does it in such an engaging way.

I think their main issue was the use of the name Tohunga in marketing, like in the GameBoy title, since the name refers to an ostracized group of people who are a very touchy subject to the Maori. Most of the other words Lego could keep. The MNOG II names are a different matter since they had no such historic connotations and most of them were never used in anything else.

It's the combination of that and Lego trying to copyright the names/terminology they took from the culture. See it's clear the story team used the names/terms in entirely good faith and intended to respect the culture as best as possible but the attempts to take legal control of that culture by Lego itself is what caused it.

On Mata Nui all the plantlife was 100% organic, as for within the MU it's not entirely sure. Since control of plantlife is an "elemental" power for Toa it's safe to assume they're organic

My guess is that a Toa of The Green can only create protodermis plantlife (actually organic protodermis fashioned like plantlife), but can control and absorb both protodermis plantlife and "real plantlife". Same goes for Water (liquid protodermis), Iron (metallic solid protodermis) and so on. It's all synthetic, artificial stuff that closely resembles the naturally occurring materials the GBs needed.

Parts seem to range from 2001 to 2008 with a neoshifter inm the mix and some Lego racers sets. 15 isn't that bad if you are looking for just parts. If you are looking for complete sets, might be better to skip.

GOD they're the fucking WORST. There's one dude like that in a Gunpla chat I'm in, and he's just the most insufferable person I've seen. Refuses to watch any of the shows but constantly posts lore questions that are either obvious if you watch the show or spoilers, posts opinions based on said shows he's never seen, and even head canons for them too. He even refused to get sandpaper until he found it on Amazon because he thought sandpaper would get his model kit order stopped at customs.

There should be rules against joining communities without any knowledge of the source material or willingness to watch/read it yourself I swear to god.

You definitely need round pieces. The nuva shoulder armor piece (x345) and the round large figure armor (21560) are often the best, but lots of pieces such as masks, heads, inverted tires, and system domes can work.

A lot can be done using regular technic parts. If you go that route, you'll want ball joints (32474, 53585), sockets (32174), 1x2 rubbers (45590), cams (6575), and thin technic arms, especially 1x2s (41677).

Going to go against the grain here and say you don't need to have specifically round pieces to make big tiddy bionicles. Pic related. I would go so far as to say you don't "need" any particular parts for any particular thing in general, since the limitations of the existing library of Lego pieces will always force you to opt for an abstraction of whatever it is you are trying to represent anyway. My advice to you is to take two identical pieces (or a single piece that would work as a bust) and try to figure out how they would look hanging off the chest of a humanoid robot. Once you find the parts you want and have a rough image, you need to determine connection points and how to integrate them into a torso. It doesn't have to be a completely custom one, but doing it from scratch will always looks better if you can help it.

If you are really lost on what to do without an instruction booklet, take a single interesting piece, and without any goal in mind, attach other pieces to it until you find a shape you like. Just practice with connections for a while until you start to see shapes or patterns that look like a part of a larger build.

Were the Toa Metru Kanohi even considered when they designed the mutated Hordika mask/heads? I can clearly see Nuju's face as a distorted Matatu, but I cannot see anything left of the original masks in the others.
This probably was discussed back in the day, but I've never wondered about it before.

The mutation basically warped their Kanohi and fused them to their face, which is roughly the same as what happened to Nidhiki (hence the Kualsi being originally designed to look like a Vahki head).
So the telescope fused to his head along with the rest of the mask, which is pretty cool in an unholy body horror-esque way.
Now that I think, though, they really missed a golden opportunity by not making him heterochromic.

I dislike Keetongu and think his fans are either trolls or tasteless. Story-wise he is an animal who is also humanoid, wise and can talk. Honestly I'm really fond of the Voya Nui Matoran. It's pretty obvious that they needed to throw something together with existing parts to hold us over for the rest of the 06 sets, but they're nice little compact builds and I remember being really excited seeing them in stores when they first came out when I was a kid. Kazi sucks though. Sorry Kazi.

Go from the smallest to the largest.
Don't own the set but build all of these a few months ago to see if any would be worth having for a display. Largely underwhelmed. Had a bit of fun trying to figure out where and how to put a Kanohi on some of them though. Made the Taku a fat bird. I like it.

I think I ended up liking the Ruki most, maybe. After doing some adjustments though, think I shortened the beams for the function and made the tail more symmetrical.

There were exactly two X and no Z across all of the Barraki's names. No X and one Z for the Piraka. One X and one Z for the Karda Nui Makuta.
The really weird names were usually reserved for irrelevant side shit from serials or something, and I assume the reason there was Greg going for a "if it sounds too retarded to be real there's no way we can run into licensing issues" approach.

If you mean the speed of the Rama swarm section being tied to game speed, there's a spot on the screen that they will always pass before attacking, you can just slam left mouse on it for a minute and you'll get through with no trouble. It might literally be impossible on contemporary hardware in the future, but thankfully, we have these, so the odds of that happening aren't as bad.

Ya Mahri Nui was to Bionicle as Breakout was to Hero Factory. Didn't have the initial appeal the beginning had, but they were the pinnacle of everything after. And then a sharp decline following those lines.

I still don't think I've ever been as hyped for anything as I was for the Barraki since first seeing the leaked pics

As someone who also has Gadunka, I don't think it would be as easy a part to use for bobs as some have suggested. Not as round as it looks on the box art, and it's cut at an odd, shallow angle.

I bought some used bionicles. It came with a kane-ra and some newer dudes. All the newer dudes feel like they're made of megabloks-quality plastic and most of the ball sockets are broken.

So why did Lego even redesign all the socket joints? Was it really necessary to do that so late into Bionicle's life, and did they not rest the new parts for just swapping over? Makes me wonder if they did it intentionally to kill off Bionicle faster
