Those symbols in their chests were DICE. Instead of being marketed as a toy they were a GAME instead. You would swap out their dice to determine their attacks, etc... but it meant that to house their dice, each body was the same chunky shape as opposed to how they all looked different in the original toyline.

Yeah Beast Saga wasn’t great, even as a huge Battle Beast fan I only got a couple. The gimmick really killed the sculpts. They should have come with guns to launch the dice instead.

As seen in the pic above, the plunger sticking out their backs was a deal breaker. If they could have somehow contained their dice inside then it might have been passable, but they did not have the charm of the originals not by a long shot.

I had the Blazing Eagle and the Tiger chariot. If I remember correctly, the chariot had a pull back motor and when released it would go forward and the lower jaw would very rapidly open and shut.

This is normal. The weapons have always been worth more. They get lost, or people wouldn't know what they go with. The figures last and get sold and could be identified. The figures themselves aren't that notable, but tend to stand out in a big pile of toys, get saved. The weapons...not so much. Each one is specific to the animal, so without them with said animal, they look like nothing, and end up garbage. The weapons are for sure worth more.

this is not normal and it's cause some youtubers covered these figures recently. They've jumped as a result. The best time to buy battle beasts was the 90's and 2000's. Post minimates/beast saga they are popular again.

The octopus is definitely up there. Other favorites were the penguin and the fox. Those might have been the only ones I had as a kid for long long time.

I really need to stop visiting /toy/, it makes me spend too much.
That being said, do you think it'll be worth tracking down ad many of the weapons as I can? They'll probably cost more than the figure individually.

Yeah I did a quick eBay search for the weapons (limited it to the UK because international shipping is a bitch) and was only able to find about 10 or so different weapons being sold on their own (most people are selling the weapons with the figures themselves). The only weapon I really want is Pirate Lion/White Leo's sword but that's nowhere in sight and will probably cost a pretty penny.
I'm going to look into alternatives, I think mega construct weapons might be able to fit into their hands if they're the right size.

I think they did it so they would sell better. Transformers was really big at the time so tying another new toyline in with them would boost the sales of said line.
Honestly I think it's pretty cool they're connected and are so different.

Yeah its a funny thought that Transformers used to exist in the marvel comic universe for a time.

Honestly if I was running Hasbro I'd just say all our none licensed brands are within the same universe.
Like Transformers normally come into conflict with the earth military anyway, might as well make those G.I. characters. MASK technology could be developed from Cybertronian tech. Battle Beasts are in space so they don't really affect anything else by existing. JEM is small scale so thay wouldn't clash either (and Army Ants is even smaller scale).
Inhumannoids could be aliens too or maybe ancient magical treasures (you could even work in the multi colour equines by saying they're like fairies).

I decided I wanted to get a few of these but I ended up buying all of series 1 and now they're here so I thought I'd share some pictures.
I got the full set from one seller, though it was missing Carp but they included an extra sheep to make up for it. No weapons or rub signs but they're all in amazing condition, the only paint defects are the ones the figures already had.
These are amazing figures, the sculpts are so detailed for something like this and each are packed with details and personality, I spent a good minute of each figure admiring them. I really like them, I haven't felt this happy with purchase in awhile (not that I don't like the stuff I normally buy but I was really looking forward to these arriving for some reason).
Oh also sorry that they are on a bed sheet, it was the biggest surfave i haf to show them all off.

Here are the two factions leaders.
White Leo/Pirate Lion and Alligatron/Gruesome Gator, both albino too which is neat.
According to the Japanese lore Galvatron armed Alligatron's rebel faction so they can destroy the Autobot aligned beasts.

Here is the bad guy team, they're just called Decprticons in the Japanese lore but Predacons is probably better nowadays.
They're made up of reptiles, amphibians, insects, crustaceans and a bat. The bat is pretty cool since I like to imagine he's a merc or a defector from the good guy side.

Like I said each one of these are filled with details and I don't think any have shared molds, they all seem unique.
Here is an example of the details, you can see that they made the gorillas arms longer than normal.
The tortoise also has his shell (not pictured).

And to close out my picture spam for today here is what I like to call Battle Geoffrey.

So yeah, I think I've fallen for this series of figures. Series 2 and 3 have some really cool designs so I'm tempted to track them down but the prices at much higher for them. Some places have complete ones (box, weapon, card, pretty much mint) for about 30 pre-shipping but I'm not sure show comfortable I am spending that much, what do you think, anons?
Oh also if you want any specific figure pictured I'll do it.

I don't really get how the factions work. I think they screwed up the lore. They had to force them into autobot/decepticon factions, while the toys actually imply 3 different factions based on the elements.

Anon the three elements/rock paper scissors thing was only apart of the western release. Originally in Japan they were connected to the transformers and it was just Autobots and Decepticons.

personally I have mine divided up into
two factions but the way I did it is kinda
different I even renamed guys
my factions are
Good Guys are lead by Gruesome Gator which
I renamed Emperor Croc
his team which consists of various
characters each with their own
personality and skill/job
fight a never ending war against
Bighorn Sheep which I renamed
King Ram and his Bad Guys
team also consists of various
characters each with their own
personality and skill/job
I didn't know about any existing
lore for these as a kid I just though
these were (and are still) cool
so being I have my own imagination
I created my own lore and histories
for my characters

I changed it up since taking the pictures since I wanted to even it out.
Now, for me, the heroes are:
Lion, eagle, stag, rabbit, tiger, dog, frog, fox, horse, procupine, bear, ram and giraffe.
Villains are:
Alligator, bat, shark, spider, snake, elephant, mole, crab, rhino, warthog, fish, buffalo, tortoise, gorilla.
(I can't remember all their names).

There was a small plastic arena you could buy. Each character stood on a side. You had fire, water and air clans, each with their own perks and each figure had their own unique dice which represented their attacks. The figures themselves had plungers on their backs and you'd push them in to launch the dice.

its just a title? he didn't start out like that
he was just Croc in the beginning after the
disappearance of the original leader Barron Bat (Blitzkrieg Bat) Croc was made leader being he was the strongest warrior and was given the title Emperor Croc. Upon the return of Barron Bat Croc would have given up his title and role as Leader but Barron Bat told him not to becasue he would have stepped down and passed on the role to Croc anyway.

my Alligator and bat are good guys
Buffalo is kinda like one of the medics
and another one I think he is some type of zebra
and hes a mechanic
but my elephant is a good guy
and I have a series 2 Fish and for some reason I was like "he's a Fish sho he'll have super speed!" and so on

my Ram as I said is the Evil boss with kind of like this Megatron/Skeletor personality and the Racoon his his second in command and is kinda like Starscream
but my tiger, eagle, snake,buffalo, dog are all bad guys

I mostly kept my teams to typical "good animal" "bad animal" stereotypes with a few exceptions like the frog and bear being good and the elephant being bad.
I haven't given personalities to all mine yet but I have some.
Leo was a prince that gave up his throne and instead sought glory on the battlefield and formed a small mercenary band but after the death of his father, the former king, he feels its his duty to win back the the kingdom from the grasp of evil.
On the good side there is Buck who is his closest ally he met early on in his days as a mercenary. The Grear the tiger who is his retainer, an old grump who is like a second father to Leo.
There is your stereotypical Russian bear man and the eagle is a prince from the sky kingdom.
Meanwhile on the villain side:
They are lead by the outlaw king Gator. In my world albinoism signifies you are designed to rule, and Gator born to a lower class family in the slums ended up taking over the crime syndicate and putting together a band of crooks, thieves and killers until they were ready to take on the king.
Notable members are the Blitzkrieg the ruthless bounty hunter bay (think like Lockdown from Transformers) and Cutthroat the Shark who is his 2nd in command.
I need to come up with more bios, it's a fun thought exercise.

I treated the rub symbols as a weak point (power supply/life support or whatever) that could give an elemental power up. Those who lost the rub signs had evolved. They were a bit more powerful but have no elemental advantage or weakness and the sign location was no longer a weakness.

The laser beasts signs were heavily protected behind the force bubble but there weakness was the vent in their backs. The tip of Deer Stalker's drill fit perfectly in the hole so he often ended up sneaking up on laser beasts.

I had the spider, hedgehog, deer, white fish, and my friends had various others. We were poor as shit when these launched (I'm old as fuck), so we all only had a couple each.

I loved them so much and thought they were so cool. I would draw them and add new weapon arms and armour, and try to draw new animals. These were a large part of me becoming a graphic designer, which I have been for 10 years now.

Don't worry I'll be prioritising the ones I like first and I'm also stingy so I'll be trying to get them for as cheap as I can anyway and selling any dupes I get from lots.

Yeah I'll try to find some of those, though personally I do prefer the stylised looks of the originals I still like the new ones (though I wish the bodies were less boxy).

Beast Saga, you can do a quick search on Amazon and get most of the 3 packs for super cheap. There are also a couple mods for the plunger issue that people have. I was lucky enough to be around when some guy made vector art stickers of the symbols so I just use those, but you can also take a knife and glue to "fix" them

Ah yeah I noticed the name of the image not long after making my post.
You're right about them fcostingway less, I found most of the starter packs for less than 20 each, meanwhile the individual ones go for as much as the starter sets.
I ended up buying the lion/deer/hamster set to see how I like them.
What's the plunger issue?

The plunger issue is the dice mechanic. The symbols on their chests are actually dice, that shoot when you push in a plunger. The issue is when displaying them, thebolunger sticks out the back. So, your options are to just deal with that, push the plunger in but have no symbol, or remove the back of the plunger with a knife, then glue the black back part back into place, which is a pain, but works.

Also, the Lion and Deer are cool from that set, the Hamster is a little disappointing, but for like $20, it's not bad. The Air, Sea, and 6 member mixed set with the Tiger and Owl are also fine purchases.

Got some more Beasts, I believe they're all series 2 releases. They're really nice, two even came with weapons though the one on the far right had a broken ark I needed to glue back on.
Favourites of of this group is the Sabertooth and the Cuttlefish.
