Here's my nice little collection so far. I just started collecting SW stuff. Sticking to mainly OT era as well as some Mando stuff. Skipped IG-11 due to his inaccuracies and missed Heavy Mando.

The "bad" articulation you're talking about is slightly worse elbow movement that can easily be fixed by doing what they did and just shave away some plastic. Otherwise, they are exactly the same figures.

Is the SHF RotJ Vader a good buy? I've heard SHF lately has been a pretty mixed bag. From what I've seen the helmet sculpt looks really good, and that's rare these days with a lot of Vader figs.

It's a close tie between him and Mafex Rogue one. Honestly it depends on what you want to do with your Vader.

Personally I'm bothered that the cloth piece on the torso doesnt go all the way. Also the cape chain on the neck is very big and prominent, and it is not attached to anything so it just flops around.

Rogue One Mafex IMO is more consistent, but the head helmet sculpt is not as good.

The only bad thing I have to say about it is that the plastic skirt means his lower body articulation is almost nothing, which isn't a huge deal considering vader isn't the most dynamic character but its still something I hope they eventually change if they do a empire strikes back version or something down the road.

What really warrants these as opposed to the black series 40th aniversary one? I've watched some vids and the differences don't seem THAT much. The black series one even has the cloth piece torso.

unless this new one is way bigger I don't see the hype especially if you already have a Vader.

Cape is just a tad too short and I worry about breaking the wrist joints when swapping hands but other than that he is one of the most solid Vaders and definitely the best ROTJ/TESB costume version.

In general Figuarts has better articulation all around, arms are way more smoother and natural, and you have more hand options so you aren't distracted by constant trigger fingers.
Cape is wired so lays more natural.
Helmet sculpt is much sharper and the different parts of the costume use different realistic finishes (like the helmet being the shiniest part or the helmet having a nice dull coat if we are talking about the ANH variant).
The only downside of Fguarts are the stiff rubber skirts and capes on some figures but that can be fixed more easily than sculpt and texture issues.

You need to own a Figuarts to really understand the differences in the sculpt, texture, coating and quality. Though yeah it is not so great rebuying a figure you already have but in this case it's somewhat easier to justify since Vader has two rather distinct costumes between ROTJ/TESB and ANH/Rogue One. I own the Black Series ANH and ROTJ Figuarts, I would have gotten the Figuarts ANH back when it was new as my first Vader had it not come with a slightly inaccurate mouth and the awkward sculpted cloth on the torso.

It’s weird that they wanted to give him all that ab articulation but it’s far less prominent on the ROTJ than on the ANH Vader. Having the cloth go over the breastplate just heightens your attention to this gap in the torso, one of the things Hasbro did better with their cloth.

Just get the bandai model kits. Last time I checked some Ebay seller had one of the 3 variants for below 20$.
Articulation on Black Series troopers is simply terrible because the sculpts were made so early in the line.

Articulation is now much better if you are talking about a sculpt that was made before 2017.
But in general the Figuarts, model kit and Mafex versions are always better and well worth the price unless we are talking about traffic cones like ANH Leia and ANH Kenobi where it is a question of personal taste. Black Series is well enough for characters that won’t get any alternatives though like pretty much all the aliens and droids that aren’t part of the main cast.

For me Vader is a 2 handed saber user. Black series doesnt allow him to hold his saber 2 handed with arms straight. Mafex and Figuarts figures had some kind of butterfly mechanism, although they're not the most effective.

I think Mafex just gave up, sad because their Bobas were the best.
SHF has the Mandalorian and Sheevs throne Mega Set coming up for May, too few figures for my taste.

For troopers always Bandai model kits.
Figuarts omits details for a tiny bit of more articulation or gets them wrong for no reason whatsoever.
Mafex has a way they connect shoulder pads to the shoulders instead of the arms that makes every pose look unnatural compared to the way it works in the movies or actual costumes.
Black Series clones are ok in the looks department, have the worst articulation (but not bad per se) and their Stormtrooper is a fucked up mannequin, definitely the worst version you could buy.

There are no actual costume for clone troopers. They're all CG creations.

I wish Disney hadn't fucked up Star Wars like it did. I wish we had three new entertaining movies with a bunch of nice merch and side material. The PT at least gave us that. A whole lot of cheap and articulated Clones, Droids and Mandos. Comics, cartoons, video games. KOTOR, Empire at War, Republic Commando.
Disney didn't just provide none of this. It failed to create even a demand for these things.

We've only seen Black Series Dooku's flattering promo pics. Plus, figuarts will almost certianly have more accessories.

If you want a more accurate costume then The Black Series will probably be for you, but as someone who values articulation and accessories above all else I'll most likely end up sticking with figuarts.

I really don't get the Poe hate. He was easily the most interesting character in the sequel trilogy. Hotshot pilot, checkered past, sense of humor, led a mutiny, etc. Way more 3D than any two sequel characters put together. It's such a shame that his two toys were terrible (TFA) and meh (TLJ).

Nothing about him is interesting. The only thing he has going for him in TFA is the makings of a decent friendship with Finn that is never relevant again after they meet back up later in that movie. His sense of humor is garbage. He led a mutiny and is portrayed as having been in the wrong for doing so because of the hamfisted "trust women" subplot. His checkered past is pointless and doesn't really make any sense with the canon that was already established up to that point.

Yes, you can but it requires some effort. The skirt itself is pretty simple: 3 pieces of plastic hooked onto little nubs on the waist. Unfortunately they might have used glue to keep it in place so you'd either have to heat it up to safely remove or cut it off.

I've seen it done, he looks great, but I'm too lazy to try it.

Pretty much. The only thing that's interesting is his chemistry with Poe, and that's entirely on the actors. On paper Poe is an absolutely bland character, and nothing highlights this better than his solo comic where the author absolutely struggled to make him an interesting lead. He just doesn't have any kind of interesting hook, he's basically Han with all of the rogueish mercenary elements of his character stripped away so all you're left with is "cocky hotshot pilot" in a franchise already filled with characters who have that and more as part of their personality. Even Oscar seemed bored in TROS, I think even he never really found a good core for the character and just kind of gave up.

I actually like all of the new casts (as actors and actresses), including Daisy and Boyega. They all did great given the script, it's not their fault the script sucks.

Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie and C-3P0 are from the Star Wars Black Series line from Hasbro. Figures can be found in stores like Target and Walmart and retail for $20 on average.

Darth Vader is the Mafex Rouge One Vader. They're a Japanese company that makes figures from various IPs. Most of their Star Wars stuff is pretty great but it doesn't seem like they're making new figures. Since it's an import figure and comes with better articulation and more accessories it costs a bit more, I paid $50 for mine.

R2-D2 is from Bandai's SH Figuarts line. The Black Series R2 Units are undersized and look weird with the other figures.

Got Rex in and fixed up some of the paint on the dude, added some details to the chest and cleaned up some of the unecessary brown thats just on him *some* Also fixed his helmets paint because before it had that horrible copper bleed.. Pretty rad figure for 20 bones.

As someone just getting into 6in Star Wars figures it makes zero sense. Like R2 is fucking $40 dollars anywhere I look but I could pay an extra $10-$15 for the SHF which is vastly superior. Luckily for me most of the Black Series figures I wanted were either retail or cheaper than. I'm not paying over retail for a BS figure.

Hi guys, I'm not balls deep into the extended lore of star wars. Is there a difference between droopy eyed Stormtrooper helmet where the eyes are separated from the "headband" and ones whose eyes and headband are fused together? Also are Stormtroopers canonically left handed? It doesnt make any sense because the E11 blaster had magazine also on the left side of the weapon, it's like you need to reach out of your way to change the mags.

Given the ultra autism of the franchise, I'm amazed there's never been an in-universe explanation for the inconsistency. This is the same franchise that tried to explain the discrepency between Ponda Baba's two separate sets of hands by explaining that there's two different kinds of Aqualish... which does nothing to actually fix the continuity problem since it's still just one dude whose hands change between shots, but at least does acknowledge it.

The in universe explanation is that by the time ANH starts, Stormtroopers are not 100% clones. This explain the difference in heights and helmets between the troopers, although it made Leia's remark about "aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper" doesn't make sense, unless the Empire actively discriminates against manlets to join their combat ranks. This explain the helmets because some people need bigger visor to see through than others.

mafex, i honestly don't know why the shoulder pads bother so many people. hasn't hindered articulation for me and still just fine with mine. great articulation, great sculpt, even the rifle has a cloth strap and he can carry all his equipments at once. always a plus for me with grunt/military figures.

Those chairs that fold out of the wall are pretty neat. It looks like it can hold a lot of figures. At least 14 figures I think from what I'm counting, including the cockpit, the exterior and interior.

I'd drop $72 on this. It excites me enough and looks like it's more worth the value than the previous and the re-releases we've gotten. Plus the Rebels cartoon version of this same vehicle with a lot less detail and storage fetches quite a bit now. This is the kind of vehicle I could see buying a couple of. They should be selling those Stormtroopers in single packed cases also. I'm going to want a bunch of them.

Official Bandai products all have a holographic sticker somewhere on the box to verify it is a legit figure. That's the main way to tell if a figure is a bootleg or not.

Another alternative is the Medicom Mafex Rogue One Darth Vader. A lot of people really like him too, that's the one I actually ended up going with and I love him.

Thanks I’m guessing a lot of the cheaper ones is the Older manlet one which I have zero interest in. I’ll watch some youtube reviews later. See if the Mafex or figurarts or maybe even black series which looks decent is the best for me. def want a tall vader, don’t care at all about what’s under the helmet as never going to take it off.

Because they already announced her a year ago. At that time they said they couldn't show any prequel stuff, because they said they were saving it until the new season of Clone Wars was out. I'd imagine either at Toy Fair or some time in the next few months we'll finally see her.

It's a pretty good comparison of most of the available Vaders except the ROTJ SHF, since it came out after the video was made. There's another video review by Robo for the ROTJ Vader too.

In terms of sculpt and overall proportions, definitely the new ROTJ SHF. But the Mafex Rogue One and model kit are closely tied (and better in some areas).

HOWEVER, if you're concious about price and not picky about his exact costume then there really is no beating the Black series 40th Anniversary Vader. He's quite possibly the best figure they've ever done and fits like a glove into any display.

for any fags that actually care I went with the Black series Vader. I really don't care for all the extra accessories and heads and from what I saw in videos he looked at least 90% as good as all the others for a third of the cost. It seemed like the Return of the Jedi Vader that just came out is just a hair taller which is nice, but couldn't justify the price difference to me.

he will go nicely with my Anakin and hopefully eventually a Sheev that comes out that doesn't look like shit(don't like the black series one). Not very optimistic about the sh Figurarts Sheev either as it looks like they're locking you into buying some bigass setup of shit I don't care about.

Figuarts gonna stay on their own schedule. If they haven't announced any figure now, then it is unlikely that the figure would be released by december so unfortunately seems like Bespin Luke is off the table. Eventually though it is bound to happen as long as OT figures sell well.

Black Series version is honestly pretty good. I would love to see what SHF could do though

I like the Anakin archive faceprint way better than the Figuarts. Mainly because it looks more like Hayden while the figuarts more cartoonish/clone wars.

I also like the Maul original face better mostly. Think it looks more like 1999 TPM maul while figuarts face looks more like an old fatter Maul.
