>>7996038>You want a toy of a licensed property? That drives up pricesThere's companies going for toys of original characters/IPs now specifically so they can avoid paying licensors and the price difference for those aren't much less than licensed figures
>You want a well made toy from a reputable factory? That drives up price.Medicom's MAFEX line is anything but reputable and they charge through the nose for shoddy QC
>You want a well designed, well sculpted toy with lots of paint ops and a smart use of plastics? That drives up price.Characters who basically amount to a basic blank body with some paint or even no paint at all are still going for too much. And again, lines like MAFEX charge too much for figures that you can't in all good conscience call well-designed
>You buy your toys from a retailer instead of some dude out that back of the factory? That drives up price. Why the fuck would you buy from a local store, which adds mark-ups to what's already highly priced products? The problem is that even buying online or from some random shmo, the price is still high
>You want a toy not loaded with lead and other carcinogens? That drives up price. This is a hilarious meme. When even was the last time someone bought a chinese third-party figure or bootleg and got poisoned or cancer from it? The factories many of the official figures are made in are the same factories all the knock-offs and lesser quality figures come from.
The true and simple answer is greed, as always. All it takes is one person to figure out they can get away with something for everyone to follow suit. Some dude noticed people are fine with rolling over and paying whatever they're asked and then other dudes copied him. Has been happening in almost every single industry
