Right now I seem to be mostly into the 2001 Bionicle Stuff. I'll probably be trying to complete one set of masks in the same color. Too bad a black kakama are only sold by europe sellers on bricklink.

Nice of you to even try and follow through with the other buyers. Feel kinda bad for everyone there, the seller must have been in a hurry.
Anyways I've shared a lot of my bonk stories here over the years. The amount of luck I've had has been pretty absurd. I'll share one of my favorites though, because it was lined up perfectly.

What a funny coincidence. Someone listed some old Bonkle store display cloth posters on local Ebay and I'm very tempted to buy those, but I don't have place or room for them, and in all honesty, I'd just want those for hoarding factor.

This took longer than it should have, but after a 4 year hiatus, I finally figured out the right shoulder width and height for the Protectors, and better yet it's adjustable to get it just right for some variation. I'm working on revamping them and have 4 or 5 of the 7 finished

Each breed seems to have its own staff end (sans Laser vision for set budget reasons). Don't tell me the Makuta actually bothered to design 42 different staff designs to keep track of. I can't imagine them being this autistic to care, other than Teridax, Mutran and a few others.

Today morning I was asking myself "Why are Skralls so boring to me, despite their cool design?", but then I managed to find my answer. Under the fancy armor, they are incredibly mundane: just a race of savage warriors and conquerors, not unlike dozens of populations in human history.

Ans so I've finally realized why Bara Manga killed G1. Without the Kanohi, the elemental powers, the contrast between the organic and the mechanical (and the body horror implications that stem from it), Bionicle was no longer Bionicle. Heck, it barely was sci-fi or fantasy. Just a bunch of humans in fancy armor doing stuff.

I didn't mind the Skrall just being plain op warriors, but Bara Magna as a whole was a let down. It could've been a lot more interesting, more so than what the unfinished story was, but I think the writers knew Bionicle was ending by that point and didn't really invest too much into it. Also the Galtorian and Agori just being regular organic beings was boring and didn't translate well into the sets at all, even the pseudo faces were mechanical, and rather lame

Wasn't it more a shitload of mechanic augmentations merged into their organic bodies? As far as body horror implications go, that seems a step above a race of beings intentionally designed to be biomechanical and already created that way.
But I agree with your general point, Bara Magna was just way too mundane. Or at least what the main story initially showed was, the serials later brought in plenty of ideas that could have supplied that missing fantastical element. Like the psychic lady Skrall, or the GB's shapeshifting killer robots, or the dream-eating eldritch abomination. But no, this story about elemental tiki robots just had to be soft rebooted into a gritty down-to-earth story about desert gladiators.

That's a nice story, I had friends that played with bonks but I was an only child so I always built the stuff on my own. Never got to experience the building process with someone else. I'll share one of my stories.

So when Bios came out my mom couldn't find them anywhere cause they were all sold out. Literally every kid had one at school. So I made some ghetto moc that looked something like pic related. Used a mcdonalds set and a green throwbot I had along with whatever technic pieces I owned. It had something resembling a gear action function. Next day played bonks with the other kids. One of the teachers saw it and commented on how it looked different from the others lol.

Glatorians could have done really well if it wasn't rushed out the door and intended to suck the last drops of cash it could from the consumer before the line was killed. The creative teams had to beg to finish the story after the Glatorians couldn't sell even with a straight to video Movie to help push it along. If they'd been given adequate time then they could definitely made something interesting, but especially since the models are printed first and the Art Teams have to retroactively story around them, they didn't have a chance to actually give us the Conan the Barbarian that it was going to be.

Very cool comparison. I tend to think the same, since their powers are weakened when they're not holding their staff and they cannot even fly without it. That to me implies that the staffs are linked to their bodies, not something separated.

Any reason Lego just doesn't re-release all the OG sets of these guys again or even continue where they left off during the peak of Bionicle? The Mata Nui and Metru Nui sets were amazing along with a few other standalone figures from other generations. I'd for sure throw money at them for more fresh decent sets and cool masks to decorate my desk and shit.

They had some minor augmentations but that's it, the armor was removable. And case in point the Sisters of the Skrall didn't wear armor at all, just robes. Not that this mattered in the sets.

Because reproducing all the molds would cost like a million dollars or more, many of the colors no longer exist in the Lego catalog, and most importantly, nobody would buy them besides a couple thousand 20-30 year old autists.

Licensed themes have the excuse of being written by someone else and already being popular with kids before getting picked up by Lego, so all they need to do to justify any questionable elements is point a finger at the original writers and audience. That doesn't work with a story they're directly responsible for, so that's where they play it super safe.
Does it really make sense to constantly avoid writing things kids are clearly perfectly okay with in other franchises, including those Lego considers fit for licensing? I'd say definitely not, but the higher-ups obviously seem to disagree.

Those parts are inherently flawed by design.
Speaking of inherently flawed: anyone else notice how those pins on those parts don't seem to hold very well?
It feels like the material is way too soft and deforms pretty easily compared to normal pins.
It's extremely notable on Lloyd's Titan Mech from last year where two of them hold the backpack in place.

Personal feelings aside, a system exclusive Bionicle unless it's like some sort of bunch of classic places sets from G1 or from both gens is still a bad idea. Even if the sets end up being the greatest shit since Rahkshi knees many will still feel like it's not the real thing (can hardly blame them) and to add salt to the wound it would be like giving in to those boomer antibonkle executives after two decades.

Gee, I wonder why anthro works with minifigs bodies, it's almost like they are just humans with animal heads and texture apart some minor differences at the end of their limbs. A regular Star Wars droid torso would be more suitable for the toa than minifig torso, hell there's the hf minifigure that is almost perfect apart the torso piece.

Back again with another haul of bionicle! :) can anyone ID them for me please. Looks to be pretty much complete. Hah gone from 4 bionicle to about 24 bionicle in space of a few week.

Best off they only cost me round £1 each. FUCKING LOVE the doggo looking one. I like the red one a lot to but I don't think the armour has been put on right as they don't coordinate well currently. The white fish chicken thing is dopey as hell to, with its canal barge feet and near non-existent body

Thanks! Figured those were hero factory but i just call em all bionicle for easier general classification.

the majority is all there just about 4 minor pieces missing so nothing major, only a few pence to replace. Seems like the armour is meant to be in that odd set up on Nitroblast to. I'd have put the 2 red pieces on the legs along with the 2 black armours and the 1 fire decal armour on the arm with the fire weapon

recently found my bionicles in a dusty box. I was able to build the original six toa, a bohrok, and two older figures i dont recall the name of. it was a ton of fun, and I really want to build some of my own creations while keeping some of my old figures.

I've always kind of avoided brinklink, even if there's no buy min from a vendor i never recognize a store front that sells a large portion of what i need, and then lots of vendors are in misc parts of the world so paying x20 the price of parts in shipping sounds like an awful idea. the only other option leaves me with ebay? are there any tips to browsing bricklink or recommended storefronts?

i found pic related lying around and i dont particularly care for it. if an anon would like to trade me some arms and legs or whatever for it i can post a list of parts I'm looking for. as i undersand it, this is worth ~$4 usd. i could probably nab a few common parts in one transaction and you can trade up to a gold mask (though it's so cheap I'm sure most of you may have it lol)

You can go to the parts catalog instead of browsing stores and add everything you want to a wishlist; then you can use an auto-compile feature to get the minimum price for all of those items as bl automatically sorts the lowest prices/min buys/shipping/ etc through the stores. You can then refine further by selecting the stores and either getting rid of parts listings from one store and focusing on only some or otherwise juggling the parts you get. You can even do this with their set listings; go to the option that lists all the components of a set and there should be an option to compile all of those parts to a wishlist so you can get any given set and compsre the piecemeal price to the whole price.

It still gets expensive, of course, but you can't beat it for getting the parts you want. One more word of warning: some stores have a propensity of accidentally slipping in the wrong parts, either as extras or in lieu of the part requested. Most stores will send the correction for free, though, or else refund you.

I used to believe that the folks who went on about how toxic and temperamental the community was were just misinformed. Now, in the casual AFOL community, I cam't fathom why I'd ever want to go back.

Now, a funny thing happened today. It shouldn't surprise anyone to see that every guy who's been calling me out has one thing in common. No posts outside of this useless constraction figure forum. No interest in LEGO - just in this fringe community, where nothing ever happens and nothing ever will.

It looks like a few days ago Greg revealed he'd be willing to canonize contest-winning MOCs about unseen G1 characters, as long as the fans are okay with it. Some say this might spark activity into the fandom, but I think that accepting any fanmade art or MOC as the canon depiction of certain characters would just limit further creativity and make others mad if they don't conform to their personal headcanons.
I'm not sure whether to be bothered or feel disinterested about this, since I already tend to ignore almost all previous canon fan creations anyway.

Got all this for $50 today, not including the plastic tubs, those are stuff I already owned. Highlights are Axonn, Maxilos and Spinax, Hydraxon, Brutaka, and Kardas. Masters were great. Protectors were really cool for what they were, although I still wish they had different masks instead of all using the same mold. Uniters were ok, although really lacking in variety compared to the Masters. Umarak is one of the biggest standouts and probably the best titan in a while. G2 had a lot of good stuff set-wise, it's too bad we didn't get to see it continue.

Still, Kiina alone was more creative than the entire Mahri wave (be honest, aside from Matoro and Kongu they were still all clones). Besides the bright colors made the sets much more aesthetically pleasing than the entire shitfest that 2008 was.

All three were bad with locations. They all lacked in compariaon to the prior 6 years.

We had an entirely new world, culture, and cast of characters and they didn't even get one full year of development without Mata Uni and the GSR subplot hijacking the summer portion of the storyline. Then 2010 snubbing any chance of further development for this new place and people. It was underdeveloped. We saw what, three fucking jungle tribe characters? One distinctly named Bone Hunter? Three fire tribe characters? Whether the fault is with the cancellation doesn't change the fact that Bara Magna was underdeveloped.

Mata Nui was a fucking space exploration machine that had barely any interation with the beings within him. He had never once been described by any characters as a honor bound god, or a warrior. It would've made more sense for him to be confused by sentient beings and adjusted to it gradually instead of being a Gary Stu "I am a Toa, I fight for my friends and honor and stuff" right out the gate. How the fuck would he know what a Toa even was? Why did he suddenlt have an attachment to the beings within him when he ignored them all the way up to his coma? They fucking botched him and made a plank of wood with no interesting traits.
