Cat were originally ratters that eventually we started keeping around as just pets, and frankly, it kind of shows.
Whereas dogs were hunting companions and are honestly almost unreasonably loyal and devoted towards their humans. There are plenty of stories of dogs which still wait around for years for a deceased owner to return.
They may not be human smart, and they have depressingly short lifespans, but they are basically bred to be(and initially even bred themselves to be) best-friend animals.
I think naming a dog after a departed friend is only really unadvisable due to the fact that it’s only going to live like 13-15 years at the longest.
