>>8019673>art toysI like them. For a long time I dismissed art toys as pretentious overpriced hipster shit (which is certainly true for almost everything made by westerners) but there's more to it. Japanese soft vinyl is often relatively affordable even on the aftermarket and its designers usually don't treat it like some high art, just a way to make something they want or something no one else would (that said characters like Godzilla, Ultraman and Astro Boy have tons of samey vinyls from dozens of designers but original content is still prevalent).
Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, most people will be put off by the price in comparison to what you're getting but knowing they're 100% hand made in very small quantities I find that most of them actually don't go for much more than just the recouped value of labor + time + materials. It's always fun to see what kind of variations designers come up with, after all once the mold is made you'd really want to make the most of it so pretty much everything has neat alternative versions.
>bootleg toysHaven't dabbled in them but I've seen some impressive ones made in recent years, though quality can be all over the place depending on the maker.
