Japan doesn't like making figures of villains, heroes sell better. Thats why we have 80 Goku's but only two Freeza's, technically 3 if you want to count the Rezz Freeza, but you shouldn't because it's at best a repaint with a minor mould change IIRC.

I started thinking about it, and sort of though you were right, but there's been way more in recent days. Bad guys who never really were shown as any sort of good that got made as figures are;

Nevermind other technicalities like Tien, Piccolo, some of the Vegeta figures (Scouter and Majin) etc.

Its just that DB as a whole has a sort of sliding bar of characters where many aren't really evil or bad guys, and end up joining the crew after their arc.

Only way I see it happening is through a wish with one of the dragon ball sets, I mean the first thing he's shown doing after being returned back to life is trying to get the dragon balls and then completely holocausting another planet.

I mean Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta, Androids 16/17/18, Fat Buu, and Kid Buu (through Uub) have all been turned into friends over the series but both Frieza and Cell were kinda outliers in DB villains in that they loved the pain and suffering they caused, and even then I could see Cell being brought back and turned to good before Frieza thanks to his sayian love for combat overcoming everything else.

All the other characters were like this too though
Tien smashing Yamcha's legs and smirking over the mangled remains
Piccolo being freaking Piccolo and laughing maniacally at slowly hurting Goku and threatening to rule the planet like his dad
Vegeta, for fuck's sake did you see what he did to Nappa, Goku, Gohan and Krillin? And all his sadistic enjoyment on Namek?
Androids were arguably the ones that enjoyed it the least and even then only because they started off as emotionless robots before starting to actually feel more human
Kid Buu destroying the planet and toying with and torturing Vegeta while Goku gathered energy
The only real outlier is Fat Buu. He had a mean streak and enjoyed punching Babidi's head off but he had good inside him since he starts caring for the dog and living a normal life on his own. He only needed to be taught basic society stuff by Hercule like why it's wrong to turn people into candy and eat them since he didn't understand concepts like that

Given almost everything is done via computers these days, they probably actually do start with a base "muscular body design", and then just modify it from there. So the work they did on Broly, for example, they use him as a template for other big buff dudes and adjust as needed. Theres probably a file on the modellers computers with literally just the Broly chest without the scars. They took that, and modified it for Jiren.

I'd say his chest isn't big enough, but regular Jiren's chest is already massive to begin with. Not sure how well any bigger would work in toy form. It does feel like his legs are a bit too big by comparison, though.

It's Jiren with filled in lines, more defined abs, and battle damage. Different of course, but the same size in almost every respect as current Jiren. It's the closest we've gotten to them keeping a figure looking the same but without a shirt so far, which is relevant to previous threads where they thought you couldn't just reuse shirt Jiren at all. The guy with the computer modelling post made sense of it however, and it brings me hope that we get more figures like this in the future.

Normal Jiren is huge already so if he does grow based off the inconsistent art of the anime, then normal Jiren works for that size anyway. Not that I'm complaining about him being too big, he just is as he's like half a head taller than Goku in first fight. I wouldn't expect any differences besides the abs in terms of size, and I'm happy they went that route because Figure-Rise Jiren will be way too big.

True, the anime is a bit inconsistent. There's frames where he's just slightly bigger than Goku and then ones where he hulks over Goku, Frieza and 17 all at once. That's fair, but the top half of Goku is completely different while Jiren has the same build as his skin tight suit. They kept Jiren looking close enough that it looks like they just filled in some lines and revealed abs. Going back to my original point, it makes me believe they can do King Cold off of a 2nd Form Frieza now. Maybe even downsizing King Piccolo parts for Piccolo 2.0...

Jiren is around the same height as Armored Broly last I checked, but I have him posed about to deliver retribution to Frieza so don't feel like moving right now. I don't see any difference in the mass or look of the sculpt so he'll be the same height I think. He's fucking massive already so he should work either way.

I don't have an issue thinking they can reuse sculpts. Any smart company would do that where it makes sense. Sculpting Goku's pants from scratch time and time again is dumb, so if people are just excited by the possible things we can get with the knowledge that big portions of base meshes can be reused, that's cool.

Frieza is pretty much a joke the instant after his fight with Goku on Namek. Him and King Cold coming to Earth only serves the purpose of showing off how strong Trunks is. And even though his other appearances are non-canon (the Janemba movie, GT) he is completely clowned on and goes down pretty much in one hit.

Its kind of a shame because even though them bringing him back in in Resurrection F and DBS was pretty stupid at least he kind of had some badass moments, and they really could have done more with him since they seemed like they were building him up as if he has some kind of big scheme he wanted to pull, but of course it fell on its ass and for all the build up, they did nothing at all with it.

In recent days, they've largely been focusing putting out a lot of figures from a single arc relatively close together. Like, they released a lot of Saiyan arc figures across a year or so (Scouter Vegeta 2.0, Nappa, Tien, Yamcha, etc. Then they were recently doing a lot of Buu stuff, like the two Buus, Gotenks, Mr. Satan, Majin Vegeta, etc.)

The Broly movie was a "Strike while the iron is hot" scenario, and they quickly released those figures while the movie was still the hottest shit. They also released Android 21 while FighterZ was still hot.

The did the Zamasu arc stuff too, though it feels a little more stretched out than they usually do things, but they were also doing it kind of like the Broly movie; While DBS was pretty hot.

But they've also released a lot of scattered figures here and there that didn't really follow much of an order like SS3 and SSG Goku both came out while they were doing mostly Saiyan Saga figures, and the original Dragon Ball figures are just kind of sprinkled in everywhere.

Besides the memes, I would buy Goten and Trunks as long as they have all the requirements at least, and whatever accessories they choose to throw in. A 2-pack would be ideal or SROE or below prices for each. The only way I wouldn't with these requirements is if they had massive heads like Kid Goku, which is what I fear most now.

Lol this actually sounds highly probable minus Goten/Trunks being a 2-pack. It will be worse. They will be sold seperately and full priced. Kid Goku/Kid krillin head size/scaling and they will justify the prices with a ton of accessories noone cares about. None of those accessories will be an SS head, that will be for their next release.

Anyone here with the Gotenks figure?

Is it that bad? Seen a lot of reviews and people complain about the face falling off constantly. How severe is that? The fact that this figure is going for way below retail also kind of tells me it sucks, but lookswise it looks ok and wouldn't mind it as my Trunks/Goten representation(lol sorry) with my Z fighters. Already got the Dragonstars SS3 Gotenks to go with Super Buu which I wouldn't recommend since it can hardly even fucking stand. I'm mainly interested in the quality of the figure. Better off skipping this figure or worth it?

I got mine for $30 and definitely don't regret it. He's smaller than other characters which makes kinda makes it harder to mess around with. I haven't had any problems with his face falling off, but I haven't tried swapping them out either. I like how he looks especially with his ghostie next to him. Yeah he has more cartoony proportions compared to other characters but it's not a big deal. I'd still get it if you can find a good price.

I just got this as a birthday present from my loving and generous brothers. I wanted this version so bad because I like how the hair color matches the Full Power Broly. Problem is that Kale has three different forms.
Caulifla would be easy. Base head, SS and SS2 heads and the SS faces can be interchangeable.
Kale looks physically different. She has her base, which is a stick, controlled SS, which is considerably muscular, and her berserker form which is female Broly.
Kefla has the same thing to some extent. She is a stick in base, becomes muscular in SS. But those forms are not so different that Bandai can't get away with, for example, giving us an SS based body with a base head option for Kefla's forms.
Whereas you can't really grab controlled SS Kale and give her a base and a berserker head, for example.

Statues are just too limiting. I like the Figuarts figures for being very aesthetic while letting me choose lots of different scenes to create with posing.

That said not all statues are utter shit. I see some newer ones looking good, but also I do like the sort of wonky Spencer's Gifts/San Francisco novelty store statue look of a lot of older ones but that may just be my nostalgia.

Hope so! They've been good with consistency as of late, but it hasn't always been that way, which is why I'm a little doubtful.
It would suck if not, though. I'm sure a lot of people are buying UI Goku for a battle damaged body to headswap with.

The issue is that the rest of the body is straight reuse. He’s not very slim overall. This problem was accentuated by SS3 and God Goku both being revealed at the same time, highlighting how they have the same body, even though SS3 should be his bulkiest and God should be his slimmest.

Honestly it’s not terrible, but it’s sufficient. People had high hopes because of that prototype from years ago

I think his chest is slimmer, too. But it's sculpted in a pretty awkward way where it looks more like it's been cut off at the sides than it actually looking slim.
Definitely not as slim as he should have been, and as the 1.0 prototype was, sadly.
Maybe a good excuse to make a 2.0 SSG one day?

All the pieces are actually slimmer, even his torso and shoulders. It's just hard to notice because of the gi, but it is smaller. His neck and arms are the most noticable but the torso is all new. You can't for instance put the SROE neck into the God's torso as it's way too big to fit.

Bandai uses the same framework for all the engineering on the 2.0 Goku figures, so it's definitely just them being lazy.

The original prototype was an absolute mess from the waist down, but it had the aesthetic nailed and it makes me wish bandai would just abandon the absolute dogshit shoulder pads we've had kn Gokus since the line began.
