In the slim chance that this is not just 100% bait, everything pictured here is created from nothing but glyos, and even still leaves out more than half of the potential companies and figure types that are released under the glyos umbrella. It's extremely creative and uninhibited and the vast amount of totally different creators releasing things with glyos compatibility makes it a unique building toy with a focus on character creation at an almost unparalleled level. Really only Lego surpasses it, and even then there's certain things glyos does better, like ease of transitioning to multiple scales.

It wasn't, I just wanted to understand how it went from being considered viral marketing bullshit to being worthy of a general each week. I still don't see the appeal though, I don't like creating characters and what not and their designs don't seem consistent

It gained traction here because the main place people talked about glyos were shut down, and the only other place was Facebook which has its own issues. The viral marketing thing probably started because a couple of the creators or their close friends would post pics of their upcoming toys here in threads, but even calling it viral marketing was a bit of a meme. LEGO is a WHOLE THING based entirely on buliding, and Glyos figures have much more personality and appeal on their own before you even get into building. Look how much charm just the default figures without modification have.

All the official Glyos from Onell are extremely consistent in design. Many other companies have gotten permission to use the joint/building system and are technically "Glyos", but this is why you will also see wildly different styles across figures. The OP picture has a mix of different companies' Glyos parts.

I don't know. I'm kind of regretting getting it since it's pricey and I wasn't actually super keen on the colors, just excited for the armory sets, especially since he posted this >>8050383. If there's a silver set coming out, I for sure should have saved my money. But oh well, maybe it'll be cool.

I'm not to hyped about the colors either. I've got a Solaris torso and crotch I'm going to build onto with the armory stuff. I don't think it's gonna looks great with the solid colored wings but it might do. He's probably got these molds now and he'll milk em like everything else so we might see some better colors soon

He’s been doing builds in previous releases.

I’m sure if these sell well for him he will milk it and run more in different colors.

Rumor has it he’s thought about making a Wing Gundam.

I think the shogun colors are good and I’m glad I picked both up. It’s nice to have different builds and building parts.

Pretty sure all Glyos producers need to flip their money into the next wave. So if stuff doesn’t sellout I bet he won’t order another dx wave till these sellout. Like titan he only orders a new one when previous stock is sold out.

Pretty sure he was the first producer with post China covid-19 shutdown product coming.

His last drop was December and he has been steady every other month for six years. This drop was a three month gap.

I’m just thankful new stuff is still being produced and this wave of his is badass.

Matt is -insanely- busy. The amount of work he does for other toylines, both glyos related and not, is off the charts nuts. We might complain about lack of new molds, but every single item that comes out of the glyos factory goes through him personally, and he often does lots of work on each and every one of those molds. For example sometimes he gets a sculpt, then has to personally cut up the figure, add joints, and resculpt certain areas of the figure to still make it look decent and have glyos compatibility. Other times he sculpts the figures himself (certain glyos toys he made and people have no idea that it's his work). Beyond that there's constantly toymakers and toy companies contacting him for work, advice, or both- sometimes paid jobs and other times just off the cuff chats. I feel like the man never sleeps and is constantly pushing himself and the industry forward with his energy.

All this to say, I'm not surprised that he doesn't post on the blog much anymore. He's got too much going on to be dicking around on a website multiple times a week like he used to.

Cancer risk aside (PVC isn't exactly a healthy material to be exposed to constantly as is, many plasticizers, the stuff that makes it soft, are known to be very toxic), the sulfur stench is probably a bit noxious. I wouldn't recommend taking deep huffs near the shelf.

The strong bath curtain smell the figures give off sometimes in an enclosed space, is the plastic breaking down into a gaseous form. Breathing it in gets those molecules in your bloodstream and it can take years to leech them out in your urine, just like with heavy metals like lead.

Not all plastic is made equal, but I'm gonna make a wild guess and say within 40 years we might see some figures expire. I'm no chemist, but 30-40 years later some 80s toys (admittedly made of worse materials) have shown signs of soft plastic drying out and cracking. Of course, some of these are just very poorly engineered materials. As much as I love Glyos this is why I try to focus on ABS figures, they're more likely to last longer in terms of how the material ages. This is also the reason a lot of people in other fandoms like Transformers cringe a bit when they hear their expensive toy contains soft plastic parts, besides the obvious concern of warping.

Different plastics can indeed melt each other if kept in direct contact, some breaking down in only a few hours. It happens universally in the sex toy industry. It falls back to the varieties of plasticizers and how they can chemically react with each other in toys. Luckily for Glyos, all the sister companies are produced by one factory or at least use the same identical compounds in production. Otherwise all the parts would damage each other over time.

Its weird, one hand I can't really fathom faulting a toy for expiring after 20+ years, on the other hand I'm now old enough that some toys from childhood are perma wrecked and it's sad and unfortunate.

I think a toy should be able to last at least 10 years with no issues. Currently I'd say my glyos don't really pass this test since I have a bunch of random figures from 2009-2012 or so that have plasticizer leak, not to mention any figures with a detail line wash after 2014 or so were wrecked within a year or two.

Can anyone give me a rough list of examples of toys to get/not get for longevitys sake?

I keep my Glyos in plastic organizer bins, and they get aired out every so often when I swap out figures or parts. FWIW, I bought that Shock Force stuff off someone long after the actual drop, and they were already a little sticky, they just got worse over time.

The lockdown thing has me going crazy. Let's talk about better times. What was your first order from onell like? Mine were 3 junk shop buildmen and two clear green phase arms cuz the reason I got into glyos was the Samus build Matt did out of the buildmen. Didn't at all understand what the hell I was getting into because the resources were so limited and the reviews didn't explain the figures for shit. That little box hooked me and I ain't stopped coming back.

I had no idea what the hell I was doing and decided to just buy something and see what the hype was all about. Now my actual first ever Glyos purchase was a Pharoid Godbeast I found on eBay. I thought out of everything that was available at the time, that it looked kinda cool and would make a good baby step.

My first drop was wave 21, Stealth Dimension Division. I had been eyeing Glyos from afar for a long time and decided to finally try out a small order. After getting my box, I was instantly hooked and went back for a second order, trying to grab whatever was left.

This Armodoc photo I took after that first drop is still one of my favorites of all time.

Then the very next drop was Task Force Volkriun, and I managed to be one of the lucky few to snag an Armorvor. That felt incredibly special at the time, to have gotten into Glyos so recently and scored this incredible new fig.

Reminiscing about old times makes me miss the excitement I had back then, especially for going outside and taking photos. I wanna get back into it, but I live in a much more metropolitan area now with far fewer interesting environments for toy photography.

My first days were an exciting wild rollercoaster. I had stumbled upon glyos online a handful of times for a year or two and kept thinking how STUPID, who would buy the same figure over and over again. Then on a trip to NYC I saw an OSM Metamorpho in person and bought it immediately: it was one of the coolest toys I'd ever seen (and that still remains so). I immediately started looking around online and started catching up on the onell blog. Three or four days later the teaser for EMD dropped, and a week later was my first drop. I got everything I wanted at the time, immediately knew I needed more. And more. And more. A month later I was back in NYC for the four horsemen/glyos retro toypocalypse event at toytokyo, met Matt for the first time, etc. I couldn't be more down the rabbit hole.

Years later here we are, EMD and ZED are still my favorite, I still buy vinyl for them when I stumble across some, and I still buy a good amount of current too.

Got a nice pile of pvc in the mail today. Not going to have a good chance to mess with them for a bit, but I'm no longer regretting dropping the money on either godbeast set.

I haven't bought a fully painted new mushi in a long ass time. It really is a good figure, I'm just burnt out on it, but these colors really pop.

You pretty much never see builds like this made in the Glyos community anymore. There are multiple genius uses of parts in there that Matt used that just...are never seen. Look at the arms alone. A Buildman pelvis used as an upper arm and elbow like that...it's amazing.

Yeah, I don't think there's even active photographers anymore. At least, I never see new stuff on here. I don't check Insta though, I don't understand how it works, it's too complicated. I wouldn't even know how to find Glyos pictures on there. I've heard there's activity there. But idk. Seems like that whole subculture of walking around and taking posed pictures of Glyos died with the forums.

I wish we'd gotten more of OG phase green. I have no love for modern phase green, it's so boring to me, but the original phase green was DELICIOUS. It was this brilliant yellow-green that looked like solidified TMNT ooze. The Phase color changing is one of the great tragedies of Glyos in my book.

A small business called Killerbeecollectibles tried to do this for years, sold so poorly that they just gave up and disappeared until recently where everything is selling for almost retail

It's not worth it, and the demand on this is high enough but evidently not so high that it sold out within a day of going up

Order something from Amazon? I bought stuff that won't spoil and can be stretched a long ways. Beef jerky, granola bars, and a bottle of popcorn kernels. Popcorn is really good since it fulfills that snacky mood, and is very small to store but expands to a lot when cooked.

Also, some of the older figures I bought on eBay arrived, and as usual, they are painful as fuck to pop together. That old PVC really hits different. Though y'all seem to be experiencing something similar >>8060982 >>8061110 with Marty's armory sets.

Robo Force is similarly hell to build with but we receive it so rarely and it doesn't really promote total rebuilding as much as the weapon sets do. Most modern figures are smaller and have less plastic.

There's 3 ways a reproclaimer would work great as a release:

>Original larger size, produced in VINYL, made of 6 pieces (limbs, body, brain cap)

This fucking virus/quarantine... I ordered a box of figures almost 2 weeks ago and on my eBay tracking it simply says tracking provided. Meaning the person says its been shipped but they haven't actually been to the post office to mail it because it's not been accepted/scanned. Come the fuck on, I need my fix.

I can understand sellers wanting to delay shipping, but if and only if they communicate it, receive confirmation from the buyer that it's okay for them to delay like that, and if they don't fake the fucking tracking. I've had packages be at the "Tracking provided" stage for upwards of 5 days, it's completely unacceptable and sellers only do it so Ebay doesn't get on their lazy asses for being late.

Thanks! I'm really digging these sets and I'm very glad to finally have armory parts to play around with. His new wings are little less insect like in their look and position, but the increased poseability and stability make it worthwhile. Like his pelvis is rock solid wheteas before it was good, but I had to keep some parts from shifting manually. Now they remind of like Devilman's or Myotismon's wings.

Both this and Ghidorah are probably mostly permanent builds at this point. I'm just very happy with them.
