People love Spawn himself, rather than comics.
Movie is great, animated series are god-tier and character is basically Venom that doesn't suck balls.
So yeah people want it, even if they have never read the actual comic book.

Spawn just hit issue #300 about 6 months ago, and it was the number 1 selling comic that month or whatever. And there's been a resurgence in its popularity since Todd has been pushing it so much.

There was talk of remaking the first Spawn series with "modern sensibilities" at Toy Fair earlier this year. Unfortunately it seems like it's a Kickstarter thing and I'm not sure if "modern sensibilities" means using the current articulation scheme or not.

I'm hoping that the interest in the MK Spawn figure makes McFarlane realize that there's still some demand for this stuff. I doubt it would do well at retail but it could work as a specialty store line.

Honestly people my age are buying up shit from our childhoods like crazy so while I don't see someone like Overtkill selling, a decent Spawn with the big cape people remember or even a commando version would probably do extremely well. I'd love for a modern Violator too but that I'd agree is kind of a stretch.

This isn't 20 years ago bud, i think you may be overstating the size of these companies a little bit. Toys and comics and a micro-fraction of the size of movies and videogames, which most toys are even licensed from. The only reason this new Spawn figure exists (i'm sure they'd have gotten around to revisiting Spawn at some point) is because he was a DLC character in a video game. That isn't exactly on par with a new film, for them to be sinking money into a whole new toyline. Manufacturing and distributing physical product to retailers nationwide is a massive undertaking.

My point is more that I am fucking sick of these huge companies doing crowdfunding. Same reason I'm disgusted with Hasbro being effectively one of the biggest toy companies with several of the world's biggest IPs and is crowdfunding stuff. McFarlane isn't nearly poverty enough to justify something like this imo.

I would agree but it depends, if you can just pledge $30 and they send you the thing that's being kickstarted i think that's fine. The part I don't like is when people get obsessed with reaching "stretch goals" and shit and end up donating $100, $1000. The backer rewards just become bloated and it becomes a whole mess.

It really is case by case, yeah. It's just something like that specific Spawn, something that collectors have been desperate for since McFarlane became a sports toy company, being crowdsourced. It seems outrageous especially considering how insanely well this MK11 Spawn is selling despite missing iconic shit like his Axe or any guns at all.

I agree, I think they'd be crazy not to do more with Spawn seeing as how this MK Spawn is flying off the shelves (if it can even reach them). To be fair, the figure wasn't out by the time they revealed the Kickstarter. Todd has been really slow to integrate articulation into Spawn in particular, this being only the second fully articulated Spawn EVER. I hope that the positive reception leads to a line seeing all the fan-favorites fully articulated.

I genuinely believe that the people under him that are doing the Fortnite stuff are the ones that were pushing him to have good articulation. And even then, their Doomslayer and Spawn are still less articulate than the fortnite stuff. There's gotta be some team separation or Todd being not as involved with each group in the company. Regardless it's a fucking amazing thing seeing a company I loved so much as a kid finally coming back and making decent toys again after 20 years.

Spawn is much more well articulated than Doom Slayer though, Slayer doesn't even have double-jointed knees/elbows.

Doom Slayer was like that only because of the bulky design and they didn't want to spend the time making the figure more articulated.Timing with game release was important too probably. Like double jointing the arms and legs doesn't change anything for him. I don't think it was a philosophy difference just lack of time and unlikeliness of affecting sales.

Spawn is out very close to the release of the DLC, Doom Slayer can't even hold his weapon with both hands. I think it's a real misfire.

Spawn is slim in comparison so all they need to do was slice it up with the regular articulation setup. No extra time needed. They did pretty much the same process with Doom but gave up on making him poseable. Only the arms needed some work though honestly.

Yeah only if they did the elbows like neca or SW Black, those disk joints with pegs so they can swivel inwards. And had the shoulder joints less covered by sculpt, the Slayer could be ten times better. But no time even for that apparently.
