Stupid question. has the pandemic affected ebay's auction bidding crowd? Like, are there less participating in auctions or is it pretty much the same?

There's likely less people spending money on unnecessary items seeing as the ability to make money is now more limited for a lot of people.

I also wouldn't be surprised if local lockdowns began restricting the amount of things people can sell and ship out to begin with.

I expected to see lots of listings since people are stuck at home and desperate for extra cash.

What I’ve noticed is the opposite. I see fewer listings and more people racing to any deal half decent. No one panic selling their collections or anything that I thought.

I say this though purely from a buyers perspective though and what I’ve felt browsing.

If you do buy stuff, people will delay shipping it. One person I bought from took over a week to ship because of the quarantine. Another person can't sell to me because they're located in Canada and won't ship to the US.

I still get "elbowed out" from buying old video games, I've been trying to get a particular game for less than $20 and like clockwork on the last day they bump it up to $40. I hope some of the eternal buy-it-now listings with retarded prices are forced to become reasonable, but I doubt it.

there seems to be more competition as people are stupid and bored at home. Ive had two orders cancelled and relisted at 5x the price which is pretty wild. The relisted items appear in the cancellation message which makes it particularly offensive

Most people are rational and they're not going to start desperately needing money for another month or two.

You probably have a couple of fools who are desperate consumer whores who need to buy shit, so you're also going to find people like you described who are just going to buy whatever they want, even if they're not working.

Anyway, only people who saved a lot of money or are still working will have cash to spend in the future for desperate sellers. So you're not going to find as many buyers even if you're selling shit below demand prices.
