Christian Faber, the originator of Bionicle has announced he is collaborating with someone regarding the IP to bring it back in some form or a spiritual successor seeing as it is owned by Lego, altho Lego might be willing to give it up. No I was talking about a building process to make them fold.
I'm a huge autist of bat or demon-like wings but the closest Lego has made are Smaug's. Marbled dragon wings are beautiful too but they are estatic.
And on top of that, they are designed to Toa-sized mocs.

I'm currently building a titan and so far the retractable wings I've found are loose, they can't support the cloth piece and can't even be extended without falling.

Saw it again. From this side it doesn't look too bad. Probably I have a grey pieces complex so it doesn't look appealing to me. But I get your point. Hope Faber doesn't go apeshit with his new project. This timeline has gone steady into Bionicle territory.

I just wish it used hf figs instead, other than the figs, it just looks stupid as a display piece even if I like some of the individual parts quite a lot, but Lego could make it a lot better so whatever.

A thought came to me. Maybe what made Bionicle so appealing was the playability of their figures, they came alive that way, which was the magic of the technic system, it has its own aesthetic.

With the ideas set we are basically worshiping a inanimate replica of Bionicle. It is just recreating a moment in history, but it doesn't seem alive the way Bionicle was. It is a fetish, a dream of preservation, Pynchon-esque.

Bionicle is first a biological chronicle. Goethe once said that nature has a finality, Gods epiphany expresses in the eternal elementals, geological strata, drifting clouds and living beings. This finality is like the dream of matter, it has a clockwork mechanism, a function if you want to name it and a purpose outside itself, which takes place in this strange phenomenon called history, a hyper-object. It can’t be seen, only its ripples, it produces futures, as the individual Toa combine each other into bigger forms and gain new strengths, as overly designed technic components sum textures to generate a greater result. What you fail to see is the rise of the inanimate, the fetishization of Faber prima materia. The CCBS system and the brick system tend to rely on stickers and printed pieces, to reproduce Bionicle success they need to convey a sense of profundity, such as a world history textbook attempts to capture humankind sins, it ultimately triumphs on its own context but fails into further analysis. The inanimate don’t generate futures, just simulacra of the sub-creator will, lesser creations apt to be forgotten, a masturbation of sorts. So Greater Beings can only be found on mocist-chads, who still create and control their own storylines, and ever expand see lighted horizons of imagination and elemental intimacy.

I wish my brain would let me build things like this, or things that are this big. On one hand I'd love to see how it was built, but on the other, it would be so out of scale compared to anything else I have built. Like I already feel like my Solek and Bone Hunter are too big compared to the Protectors/Matoran, even tho I like the builds

It's the Bignicle frame and there are instructions for it. See the picture.

The most difficult part would be the head and part of the torso imo, it doesn't look that hard to build.

Hein, whether you're good or not at that depends on how you choose to use CCBS pieces. They cover a lot but the main problem is that backwards it looks kinda hollow, see Master Tahu.
Then again, if you know how to cover them it would make quite a good-looking moc.

As for the building, instructions of the frame have been provided. As I said before, the head seems kinda tricky but with some efforr it can be pulled off; hell, you can even build your own moc using the Bignicle frame, a lot of people do that.

You can still support it to reach 10k. It's not like we're only limited to a single project being allowed to reach that goal.
I personally think some super articulated toa could potentially sell better than the diorama. At least this can still appeal to people who aren't fans of bionicle as just "some cool robot" while the diorama will probably only sell to the few remaining fans of bionicle.

As far as I remember that was mega(?) showing all the misprints and protoype pieces so far. One example is the golden Strakk's helmet in the first post.
Then again, seeing the prices some Kanohi can get I guess a misprint as rare as >>8073799 would be a lot.

to be fair, this is just straight up an '03 Matoran with a Mata head instead of a Tohunga head. it would have had the Kolhii stick if my parts pack had the model. so I used the Onewa hammer as a cheap substitute.

Oh yeah. um. I suppose. maybe when I remake him in an inika-esque build, he'll be more impressive. I wanted to use the Mata torso for my first Toa build, but it does have limitations that can't exactly be defied without certain 3D print parts that I didn't really want to do.

I actually thought the rahkshi chest piece was a good idea for the hammer. And personally I think your moc is a good example of lego-esque bionicle mocs being taken to their logical extreme; interesting parts usage and solid constructions, but everything in moderation.

01 matoran hold a special place in any bonkle fan's heart imo. Personally my dream set for a bionicle homage would be all of the mctoran pieces in every official bionicle color (and some extras), a new version of the head with eyestalks in different colors, and all official masks in all official colors as well. That way we could make literally any possible combination for matoran and it would be the price of mask molds and like 6 more piece molds. Probably like 100 total molds in the end but still.

Is there anything like a mask pack simulator? Almost all masks consist of exactly one uniform color, so generating images for all theoretically possible variations actually shouldn't be too hard. Not that simulated masks are good for anything, but it can be fun to pretend.

Yeah 03 and 07 were the best matoran sets. Something about the 03 matoran are always weird in my memory but hit such a nostalgia pang. I think it was because I was still too young to realize that sets were released on a schedule, or because they were kind of random releases, maybe Toys R Us exclusives?

The 03 Matoran were great honestly. I like that they don't really follow a particular color theme (although it would have been great to get a second wave with the missing tribes). I fondly remember the display they had for them at Target; it was one of those ones where you'd grab one from the bottom and another one would drop down from above, hard to explain. The 07 ones were great, it's just a shame we only got two of them outside the Karzahni set.

I never put stickers on in the first place because I think it counts as modifying a piece and they never really look good as-is

removing prints is a no-no though, because it fundamentally changes what comes off the production line. I wish Lego would have just done away with prints, though, at least 9 times out of 10. Sometimes they're ok, like the the g2 toa chests, but those only looked fine because ccbs shells look lifeless to begin with.

You're joking, right? They barely even do them anymore, nine times out of ten it's a fucking sticker.
Anyway, prints really aren't an issue for G1 pieces. Come to think of it, only ones I can remember off the top of my head are Kanoka/bamboo disks.

It really annoyed me. I get that they probably wanted to appeal to children, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who preferred cool characters over whiny-ass children. Also didn't help that the mask designs with their stupid fucking eyebrows and mouths were absolutely atrocious.

Rules of Kolhii
Teams number more than one but no more than six.
Teams may include any number of players greater than one, but no team will have more players than any other team.
All teams agree to the number of goals needed for victory.
The first team to reach the number of goals agreed is the winner.

Alright I picked them all up. So, every one of them has all of the parts with some exceptions.
1. The Green Lewa Nuva is missing his blades which is real bummer. I'll have to look online and see if I can find replacements
2. The Onua lego tecnic seems to have some extra parts as you can see in the picture. There's a spare head as well as several spare masks. But it seems to have all of the original parts as well. It also came with a mini cd-rom, so I'll need to see if I can find a reader for that.

Every one of them also has the original manual for putting them together, which is just awesome.

All in all, a great haul. And I can't wait to put them all together.

Aren't you in luck, those were the most wide used blade piece. Spare heads and masks are from mask packs. Onua to my knowledge never came with CD but I could be wrong.

Just make sure that you get them in the right shade of silver. From 2006 onwards they started using a more pearlescent shade of silver in Bionicle, and it'll clash really badly with the other silver parts on him. You want the more solid, darker silver.

Nothing. I think the implication was that Ekimu defeated Umarik, which broke his mask.

My headcanon is Umarik and Kulta were brothers, and the orange mask was Kulta's before he became the Skull Grinder.

As for the MoUP, pretty sure it got destroyed when Ekimu btfo'd Makuta to the Shadow Realm. Makuta was wearing a replica of it in the Shadow Realm. I imagine the plot of season 3 would have been Makuta trying to remake it.

The netflix series was terrible, but I did like the look of Shadow Realm in it. Kinda wish we had gotten to see more of it.

The mask is a prototype/misprint, it's unlikely you'd be able to get one without dropping a shitload of money. Also 9/10 on the crocmoc, although I don't think the extra blade on his arm is necessary

Objectively wrong. Normal Matoran are Metrutoran-sized. The Av-Matoran sets are (explained as being to justify that awful build) bigger on account of getting swole with light energy inside Karda Nui, same reason 2008 Takanuva was titan-sized.

Lego always keep a master mold for any one brick, just in case.
It is true that they melt all the discontinued assembly line mold though, and making new ones from the master mold is expensive, so they do it extremely rarely.
In theory they could make remake the old Bonkle pieces if they absolutely wanted to, but it likely wouldn't happen since it would be expensive to do just one piece, let alone multiple of them.

Just a thought looking at custom masks. I wonder why Lego didn't go the route of having different islands based on or inspired by different cultures. Like Mata Nui and all that was Pacific islander, but then have another island with it's own cultures and themes/aesthetics, like maybe one viking/iron age inspired, or native american/inuits, rather than slowly degrading into kinda generic scifi. The whole Maori thing in 2001 really made Lego wary of basing Bonkle on real cultures. This wasn't too well known until relatively recently, but their management issued a massive overhaul on the franchise sometime around October 2001, partially because of the Maori fiasco, and partially due to 9/11 and the shift in plans to extend the line for more years. This overhaul involved toning down the real life inspirations and borderline religious overtones, and turning the whole franchise into a more "generic" science-fantasy theme rather than one based on real islander culture.
People tend to say 2004 was the biggest shift, but Lego's been planning to abandon the tribal islander motifs since 2001 because they didn't want a repeat of the Maori ordeal.

Greg basically confirmed recently that the Av-Matoran in specific morphing into Bohrok was his idea and he only included the scene in the book because he felt like writing something creepy at that moment.
We know from Faber's concept art that the Bohrok-Matoran connection was part of the plans at one point, but we don't know if the specifics were ever explained in the story bible, nor if it was seriously meant to be canon and not just a stray idea. Greg could easily have left it out completely to avoid confusing the readers, or explained the whole thing in a better way in a more suitable story outlet. But we know how he feels about things like plotting or story and lore cohesion. They only matter if he's having fun; if he isn't, he'll surprise himself by throwing something out of left field into the story to satisfy his momentary urge for cheap shocks and twists.

The thing that sets Bionicle apart is that it's not tied to Minifigures. Rebooting Ninjago, or Exo-Force, or like... Idon'tfuckingknow Johnny Thunder apart from Lego doesn't make any sense because those characters are defined as Minifigures. But Bionicle is unique in that the characters are so distanced from Lego System already that they don't even need to be Lego anymore.

Tribal islander robots is such a special setting that deserves to be more popular than Lego and their shitty marketing will allow.

Biomechanical means they are a species that exists with mechanical components in them and other similar conditions, such as "armor" being basically a carapace. They're as much a robot as a man would be if he replaced 50% of his body with robotic parts. Lego wants to be 100% sustainable within a decade. They were even looking for a material to replace ABS 5 years ago, don't know if they still think that's feasible. But ball joints take too much oil, so Lego will never make constraction parts again. Faber's project is the only future Bionicle has now, and even that may not happen because he won't be able to meet with potential partners to confirm anything until after covid. But whatever shape Faber's project takes, it will not be /toy/.

It's a fat, solid wad of plastic, it takes significantly more material to create a part with a ball joint than most standard Lego pieces. That's why all of the CCBS parts have those cavities, it cuts production cost.

Look at 2001 and the Throwbots. Very gappy and mechanical but above all SMALL. Unlike huge G2 shit. Hell, with what fan engineering has done, you could shrink them even further by breaking up the pieces into smaller limb segments. Bionicle was best when it was small heroes versus massive Technic villains like the Rahi or Bahrag. Throwbots are more fun than G2 uniters IMO because of their snacky size even if they aren't as articulated as the G2 stuff.

Working on a revamp and I'm looking at silvers. Is there even much of a difference between the old silver and the newest hero silver? Bricklink lists both as Flat Silver. But then at some point Lego started using a pearl silver but not always, like in 2006 only some parts were pear silver, and some were super pearl silver, and some were flat? And then wasn't 2007 back to the original flat silver but then 2008 went back to that weird pearly silver? Whats up with Lego and silver?

Only flat silver is in the pallet these days. It's pretty minor difference, and to my knowledge some sets used both, but if you go close with a flashlight, you'll see that they're different shade.

Sorry, it's just blowing my mind only just noticing after all these years how similar the old and new flat silvers are, and it only makes the pearl silver that much more jarring. The skeletal part was really just due to the Mata's special circumstances, so I get why people don't always stick to that. And that's still okay as long as they avoid falling into the "big guy dumb" trap and keep him wise. I'll always give JtO and G2 in general a little credit for at least not completely forgetting about that aspect.

what style do you guys think would make the most sense in a series of animations about the bionicle universe? which do you think would piss the least amount of people off (as the only people who would care about it at this point are the fans who REALLY care)?

the nui-jaga is heavily modified from the toy appearance and looks a lot like it's real-life inspiration, a scorpion. there aren't any recognizable bionicle parts, but you would still recognize it as a nui-jaga if you saw it in a bionicle setting. this is probably what a nui-jaga would look like irl.

the comics portrayed the toa, matoran, rahi, etc as almost exactly like what the toys looked like. this may be seen as staying true to the spirit of the toys, but would lead to questions like where exactly the "biological" part is. are there organs in the torso piece? do the toa have "muscles", or should the pistons visible in the toy components do all the moving?
there is also the question of mobility, as in the comic illustration of tahu raising the sword. his shoulder should not be able to move like that if we're staying true to the toy appearance. likewise for other illustrations from the comics where the toa seem to have extra joints that their appearance would not imply. this also raises issues with the toa's hands and how they hold things. the early animations kind of just hover things by the toa's hand pieces.

the movies took certain artistic liberties, to varying degrees; some parts like onewa's breastplate, shin pieces, and shoulder guards are recognizable and look a lot like their toy counterparts and are instantly recognizable as such. but they also added other more realistic components, like bundles of what look like muscle fibers visible between gaps in the armor, expressive "masks" that behave more like faces with eyebrows and lips, and some things that just plain don't look like the toys at all, like the vahki in LoMN or the rahkshi in MoL

there's also the question of exactly how robotic the bionicle universe is. early animations showing the toa arriving and moving around have whirrs, clicks, and electronic sounds that make them out to be motorized and computerized rather than having a biological element. but later media has those sound absent and instead the toa seem more organic.

last thing I want to consider is the masks, the majority of the toy commercials show the masks acting as, well, masks. as such the toa are incapable of facial expressions, and you wouldn't be able to tell they were speaking. the movies converted the masks into faces and made them appear softer, as in the beginning of MoL when Tahu is falling with Takua on his back and his cheeks are seen "rustling" in the wind.

the depiction of the bionicle universe varies widely due to the creation of media often being handed off to various studios who were apparently given a lot of artistic freedom. I need some opinions here, what would be the best way of depicting the bionicle universe?

As much as I liked the movie designs I always hated the look of the vahki in LoMN, seems like a huge nerf from robust automata cops designed to capture and fuck shit up to slim weirdly proportioned botlets that don't even use their disks.Keeping their relative height to the Toa unlike what they did to the Visorak didn't help.
Also the Miramax trilogy characters often do mechanic sounds as well.

I think it should be close to the bottom pic, design-wise. Maybe you can make the mask static (like actual masks) but keep the glowing eyes and have them emote that way. And maybe a glow from the mouth when they talk, or a simple robotic mouth. Make them look like robots close to the toys, but show they have organic innards.

I'd go for something like D'Anda's comic art, where he took the toys and modified their proportions and details to make them look less like toys and more like functioning mech people. I'm not too fond of the "exposed muscle" idea, but if I had to include it, it'd be minimal and only show in the armor gaps. Change only what's necessary. Get rid of or simplify some gears and other gimmick pieces that stick out too much, but let them show under the armor from certain angles.
I'd give them normal hands when the toys' hand was just a socket piece, but I also like the alien look of the early sets, so they'd have either simplified hands like in the '03 Game or no hands, like in the comic. I'd give Gali hook hands because I like the look.
Eyes would be expressive like the Miramax ones. Masks don't need to be faces, you can get plenty of emotion across by body language, voice acting, general shot setup and music cues, but they could be able to do minimal expressions like in JtO. Cartoons almost always give robot characters expressive metal faces because animation doesn't need to stick to reality where metal is solid. And hey, even the Ghost animations and promo images made the characters all bendy to pull off certain poses because the pieces weren't all designed to be mobile. So there's nothing wrong with bending the CGI parts here and there, and as such, I'm not against moderately expressive masks either. But the Miramax movies went overboard with integrating the masks into the bodies. They even had muscles on the masks, which is bollocks unless it's an organic mask.
Mouths for the masked characters could be either absent or just simple holes (or vents?) rather than the elaborate jaw structures seen on some Miramax designs or the abominable double-teeth from TLR.

Personally I prefer if the characters have heads with moving mouths but the masks on top stay static; imagine a Great Miru where you can see where the mouth is while still having stuff cover it, contrasted to a Great Garai which basically has nothing covering the mouth, contrasted to the myriad of masks with solid mouthplates.

Anyone know if all jaw pieces are interchangeable or not? It would be nice to know options if I wanted to say use a chima head or something. Found a pretty nice moc (pic related) that I believe is using a chima head (scrapper? cragger? something like that) and an invasion from below lower jaw and I want to know if other jaws are interchangeable or if I just kind of have to know.

Stay close to the source material, taking liberties as needed. The juxtaposition of the mechanical-looking characters against natural settings with primitive technology and culture was one of the strong points of early Bionicle's visual style. A couple of Vrahno's short films, 'Struggle in the Drifts' and 'Pohatu's Arrival' show the dubious biological component integrated with the toy aesthetics pretty well in my opinion, but I think the "Bio" part really doesn't have to be anything more than implied; The Toa and Matoran are visibly and maybe even audibly mechanical, but they eat, they breathe, they sleep. It's not as important to show that they are partially organic as it is to show that they do things that most organisms do.

Similar to Toy design, slightly less cartoony (but still inhuman proportions), more mechanical and biological details, little rust spots, circuit runes, shit like that. really dark and moody deep jungle environment, in my eyes that would be best.

It was originally implied that the reason protodermis was so special was because it was a "living" metal and all Bionicle creatures were made of it, making them basically living robots. It was almost called "biodermis", but that name was trademarked by another company already; the original name likely would have made the implication clearer. The Onu-Koro chapter of the MNOG was originally going to have a "biodermis smith" who built Rahi from biodermis sourced from the mines. You can still see evidence of this in the finished game in that the Matoran mining equipment consists of tool/Rahi hybrids. The "cyborg" angle was only really formalized in 2003 when they switched gears for Mask of Light for some reason.

I'd say that "living robot" is the way to go for animations because A: it's the most unique option and B: the "technic-ness" of the Bionicle system in 2001-2 gave creations a pleasently "lego-y" quality, which somehow combines the abstract clunkiness of mainline System building with sleek turn-of-the-millenium modernity seamlessly. The sets adhered to the "living robot" paradigm for the entirety of G1 despite the movies being the "canon" version. The Advance and Templar animations using this paradigm had a more "cinematic" quality than the movies anyway.

As for the masks, part of why the Advance and Templar animations are seen as being more faithful to the core concept of Bionicle than the Miramax films is because they kept the masks static, which made the characters seem more mysterious and alien. Of course, based on their personalities as written Bionicle characters seem pretty close to being human, but it's best to leave room for creative interpretation. Templar was able to give characters a wide range of personalites while maintaining an aloof tone and only having the characters express themselves through gestures and their eyes (and a few bits of anime iconography, though it's best not to go overboard with that).

Did we ever find out why or when it was decided to make them part organic? The Kaukau confirmed from the start that the characters needed to breathe, which implied some kind of lung or at least pump, but prior to the movies, every single medium seemed to play up their robotic nature. The comics even said the Bohrok were strange for having fleshy krana, which suggests that mechanical beings were the norm. Even Bionicle Heroes and The Legend Reborn took the robotic route with their designs, which makes me wonder what benefits, if any, came from writing soft shit into their biology if it was barely ever represented and commented on in the lore.
It always seemed to me that keeping them inorganic robots made of living metal who need oxygen would have been way simpler and less confusing. Why write it into the lore that the toys are not what the characters look like? I don't remember if Faber ever said anything about this, but one creator comment that I do recall is from the movie directors. They said Bob Thompson had the idea that the Bionicle fauna was "evolving" from part organic and part mechanical to fully mechanical. Some animals, like the ash bears, were said to have already completed their evolution and were entirely robotic. But that makes no sense and the idea was never explored anywhere.
I wish fans could hunt down Bob and interview him, provided he even remembers his stint on Bonk. I wonder if he had any concrete plans with his weirder ideas or if he was just throwing random weird shit into the lore for the heck of it.

After Bionicle Bob Thompson was a producer on the 40K Ultramarines movie in 2010 and has had production roles on other animation projects for the last decade. No one's interviewed him since the early 2000s.

I think they were going for what I call the "gold Poseidon aesthetic". Not sure where it comes from exactly, but I've seen it elsewhere to represent and decorate water themed characters. Lego used it on Atlantis, and to a degree with Master Gali.

Pretty sure Onu-Matoran/Toa have natural night vision anyway, so the effectiveness of one wearing a Ruru is debatable. I guess that's why LoMN turned it into a mask of light so bright it lets you x-ray walls or some shit

Honestly it was in no way "asinine" just because it was different. They just changed the rules for how Toa work in g2; instead of Okotans turning into Toa with an innate elemental power and a mask power, now they're a different race that can use masks that give them elemental powers. There's nothing wrong with that. I also prefer the original method, but if g2 had more effort into its story, nobody would mind the variance in how it's handled. For that matter, if there ever is a g3, it'll almost certainly handle masks in another different way.

In G1 they're told they have to find all the (differently powered) masks to be ready to face Makuta, and they have a ton of varied adventures, facing both Rahi foes and natural obstacles in pursuit of that goal. In G2, they're told they have to find the gold version of their respective mask (I'm still not clear on what the difference there was supposed to be anyway), they just do it offscreen and maybe step on a spider on the way, and then it's like "k now what".

So the reason you don't like it is that you don't understand.

In G2, the regular masks the toa wear have no powers. The golden masks are the only ones with elemental powers. Yes, it's simplified, but if you'd notice invthe exact same post you're replying to I said

You're complaining about the buildup and execution of how the masks were handled, not with the mask powers or how they work themselves. The sheer fact that you admit to not understanding it should be clear evidence that you need to re-evaluate what you're mad about.

I've been thinking about de-matoran and de-toa since last night and I'm curious how y'all would handle their color schemes if you were in charge of a hypothetical g3 with all original elements. Personally, I'd go with a "pick three max from this list" type deal for all elements and for sonics I'd go with the following colors:

Adding onto this, in general I wish grey got more love overall. It was common in the early years but with the changes in the "default" grey it fell out of favor for a little while until the phantoka that everyone loves to hate for their abundance of it.

It baffles me that no one has designed a program that analyzes mocs and comes up with all the parts you'd need to build said moc. So I was thinking about the simplification of Bionicle as it was phased out by Hero Factory and CCBS and a stagger realization hit me. It didn't start with G2, it began with Hero Factory. Now granted, my points here are based off the aesthetic qualities of each set, but I find it interesting how the villains of the first dozen or so HF series invoke the spirit of the baddies from mid 2000's bonkle. I made this chart to illustrate my point.

I forgot to note how much savage planet mirrors the hordika aswell. As in both stories/waves, the protags get mutated into weird monster creatures. I'm aware of the lore in HF, they jumped onto some untamed jungle planet hence the get ups, but the correlation there is still notable. Especially when each hero is compared to their 1.0. counter parts.

One last thought that has been on my mind alot lately. Since HF acts as an interlude of sorts between Bonkle G1 and G2,
I like to think of it as an inverse of the toa metru story. Instead of being set in the distant past however, it's

they were just biomechanical beings who had grow to live out their daily lives in colossal cityscapes. The way I see it
this also explains why the heroes have to constantly upgrade themselves, aside from just suiting specific tasks, I like to
think they've evolved to become more mechanical than biological. Again, just an autistic notion that's swirled around in my head for some time.

And even if we're going along with the idea that Disney was forcing lego to comply to a list of select characters (to push their new characters), then why no figures of Sidon Ithano? Or a figure of PZ-4CO? I'd have been happy if they'd taken the whole line in the same direction as galidor in complete honesty. Humans, aliens, and robots in the fashion of CCBS would have suited me just fine.

Well what didn't help is that almost all of the sets were based on Nu-Star Wars that had all shitty and lame designs, most of them being human. People like to shit on the prequels, but if there was one thing George did well with them was having awesome fucking character design that people could like just by looking at them, Darth Maul being a prime example.

I definitely agree, it also feels as though any time they had the opportunity to make something that would fit the style of the line, they'd absolutely bypass it. Maul is a perfect example, he gets sliced in half along his waist, only to later return with robot legs. The fact they made episode 2 maul feels like such a smack in the face considering they could have easily made bionic maul.
With characters like Luke or Obi-Wan I'm more lenient. They're big names in the franchise, but it seems like they avoided aliens and robots like the fuckin plague. The troopers and mandos were neat, but you can only buy so many before you start getting bored of the same "helmet man" designs. Grievous was a step in the right direction, but then they never did anything as neat as him again. Now the one that really gets me is Chewbacca, why in god's name would you try to apply the aesthetic of CCBS to chewie? He's 100 percent hair!

I stopped playing a bunch of attention to bionicle and forgot how fucking stupid the Barraki looked.
From that image I can see why I don't hear more about HeroFactory. Those names are uninspired as shit, and the builds look bad to boot.
Looking back I also forgot how each iteration of bionicle became "Hey these are the same guys as before, but now they look different"
I might be wrong on that last part, but just from the image that's what it looks like.
